Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

Hello everyone,
I'm scheduled to be married at St. Catherine's in Astoria next November, and I'm worried about 2 things:
a) the light inside the church (St. C has very little/no natural light coming in, and I'm worried about how the photos and video will come out)

b) the ceremony is supposed to start at 3pm and my coctail hour starts at 6pm (at Leonards). There's some other ceremony at the church at 2pm, and I'm worried that my ceremony may not start until 4pm...if it starts at 3:30, I'll be ecstatic. If it starts later than 3:30, and the ceremony runs 1.5 hours, I'm afraid there won't be enough time to take photos before coctail hour ends.

Does anyone have similar worries/concerns? Is there anything I can do about this?

Thanks!
Anna

Hey Anna, welcome to the boards! Yea, St. Catherines tends to run late....is there any way you can start the CH at 6:30 to make sure there is extra time? There's also traffic on Northern Blvd going from St. Catherines. I'm doing my ceremony at 4 and CH at 630 but my church is 8 miles from the hall.

Re: the lighting...you should be fine at St. Catherines...there are so many weddings there...who is your photographer? address this concern with him and he'll take care of it...that's what they are there for

congrats on your engagement! kala stefana!

Guests can use the parking lot at St. D, BUT it's VERY small, and someone will inevitably be blocked by someone else. I haven't counted the spaces lately, but you may want to let elderly guests know that there are limited # of spaces so they should get there early.

If your wedding is on a Sunday, then there are no parking meter rules in effect, so they don't have to feed the meter, but there aren't many meters around St. D either. There are many more meters around St. C, so I'm not too worried about parking there. In fact, parking is the least of my worries...in the end, guests will find a place to park, they just have to get there early enough.

You're right - that lot is very tiny. good point about sunday meters - that's a plus.

Yiasou!!!

I just wanted to say hi to all of my fellow Greek Brides!!!

How is everyones planning going? We just booked our e-party--it's on December 30th and we are having it at Ammos in the city--we are SO excited!!

Did you guys have a priest present at the e-party to bless your ring? Also, do you NEED to have a koumbaro/a picked by the e-party??

Hey!! congrats!!!! our e-dinner (well, gnorimia) is this weekend coming up...we are doing it at Mezzo Mezzo in Astoria and keeping it very small. We are not going to have a priest bless the rings b/c we are doing it very informal.

Ammos is great!!!!! I love the food and the atmosphere is out of control. You're going to have a great time!

I know!! I can't wait!!

Mezzo Mezzo is right by me!!! If we didn't have such a big family, we would have done it there but keeping it 'small' to us is like keeping it under 200 people!! Gotta love big greek families!!

You must be SO excited for this weekend!!! Do you have a dress??

I'm trying to figure out HOW we knew each other. Maybe through my cousins Georgia and Kathy? The twins?

Yes, I know MPAS but just met her through the site. She knows my FH from Central because he works there.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

How large is everyone's guestlist?

About a half hour ago I was watching the Greek channel on cable and an ad for Latos, latos & DiPipo came on; I suddenly remembered that my FMIL baptized one of the Latos brothers, and I forgot to put them and their parents on the guestlist...so now my guestlist is 290 .

This is before we've cut anyone from the list, but it's still pretty big for my taste, and it's unavoidable .

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

yea, we have a little over 300 people on our guest list, including the people in greece though. We hope only 200-220 come....

we already have the complaints from FH's community that 'i can't believe they didn't invite my kids' when hellooooooo the only reason you're invited is b/c you're on his mom's ONE TABLE that she's allowed

some people think they didn't get our STD's b/c they were lost jersey people!

COngrats, I love Ammos soo much. Actually, this Thurs in the Ammos in Astoria GreekAid is having an event, I have been to their past events and they were all fun so if you guys want to attend.

You dont have to have the koumbari picked by your epart, thats your preference. You dont have to have the pappa there to bless your ring bec they do that anyways at the wedding.

Have fun!!, Kala Stefana!!! Where in Greece are you getting married??
