i'm so happy to see this thread! i'm new to liweddings and my Fh is Greek! did anyone get/getting married at st. demetrios in astoria?? we're getting married there and have a few questions! also i'm really worried about the parking but what can ya do i guess...

yay a date twin! where in NJ? we're actually having a DJ i wish we could afford a band... we have to make CD's and provide him with the Greek songs we want played.. I have a question for the greek ladies... ya kno the traditional first dance where the bride leads a semi circle and everyone joins on?? does anyone know the name of that particular song and when in the reception it should be played?? i'm so clueless..

I know what you mean...I hope it will be easier picking a gift since mine are a couple...are your koumbaroi a couple?

As far as the koumbaroi walking down the aisle or not, I think it really depends on what you want to do...for me, I don't mind either way...whatever they want to do would be fine.

Well, the ceremony and the reception will be in CT...Holy Trinity in Bridgeport and The Hyatt in Greenwich.

Did you decide if you will go with Zoodoho Pigis?
Where is the North Ritz Club? I've heard of it before, (I'm originally from NY), but not sure of its whereabouts.

Yes our Koumbari are a couple its my cousin and her husband (non greek) but we want him to be a part so he will stand up there lol.

Yea we are going with Zeodohou Peghe. North Ritz Club is in Syosset on Jericho Tpke. As you are headed east on jericho it is before Fox Hollow

I recently found out about a Greek lady named Stefanie who have the most amazing stefana, lambades, boubounieres. If you guys want her information let me know. I have not gone there but saw her work at raspbryswirl's recent wedding. it is out of this world!!! the lambades were something i've never seen before!

If you have pics i would like to see. I got my sisters stefana and lambades from this store in astoria. They came out great but besides that place i have no one else to reccommend.

I guess Ill see if my cousin needs any suggestions of where to get it from but id rather wait for her to ask then me mention it to her.

There are many different songs you can play for the traditional dance which is called the 'Kalamatiano', if I am not mistaken. I believe the most popular song is the one where it goes 'the bride is getting married today' etc , I forgot how it goes , but its a really nice song and dance

For our first dance we are doing the 'sirto' sp?
Its a cretan dance. I learned it last week. Im pretty nervous about it.
