Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
HEllo all.OK so my FH and I are in a bit of a pickle. HE asked his second cousin to be our koumaro. Single guy. OK whatever. I had no input on the decision making of that choice. He asked him and that was that. OK if thats who he wanted and felt strongly about I didnt mind.
Now the problem is, we no longer want his cousin in our wedding. He is a liar and so immature. He moved to LI from SC to get more into the greek community and find himself a Greek girl. WHen he moved up my fh let him stay with him at his studio basement apt. All he did was complain about the place never offered to pay for anything. Complained that FH had no food or drink in the house. My fh is a waiter and usually eats at work. If i was a guest i would make sure i bought stuff for the house since i wasnt paying for my stay, 2 months.
Since then so much has happend. Everyone in my and FH life has a problem with Steve (our koumbaro) He is insocial and rude. Lots of other things in between. Needless to say he is not talking to my FH over something so silly as wanting to leave a festival earlier than steve did. NOw he wont return fh calls.
We do not want someone like this in our life and FH decided he didnt want to risk having a person like this in our wedding. And such an important part. Imagine he get mad a couple days before our wedding and we have no stefana or lambathes?
Sorry this is so long but what i need help with is how to go about telling hime we want him out. Is there a nice way to so this? I feel so bad for FH b/c he is so upset and stressed over this.
TIA for advice and reading this long post.
Beba

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your koumbaro.
I don't see anything wrong with telling him that you and FH don't want him to be koumbaro anymore. Explain to him what problems you have with him, and tell him that you don't want such a person as your koumbaro.
It's not going to be an easy conversation to have with him, but it sounds like it's necessary.

Who will be marrying you? Will it be a civil ceremony or a religious one?
There are A LOT of traditions that can be incorporated into a wedding ceremony...check out pages 9-11 on this thread. Have you asked your FH what he would like to have incorporated?
FH's brother married someone who is Jewish, and the rabbi let them incorporate the Orthodox crown exchange into their Jewish ceremony.

We are getting married at the RH so we can really do anything we want. The officiant said we can do any traditional things. I wanted to surprise him at the reception with something. He is from Greece and his family are all coming from Greece.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*
I have a question about the ceremony for anyone who could help. For 'The Ceremonial Walk' how our church said we can use petals, so how do we hand them out, do you wait until everyone is sitting down and hand out to the first 2 rows. Or should I have someone hand them out as the people sit in those 2 rows?
I'm sorry, I'm not Greek and I've never been to a Greek ceremony, so I'm new to all this.
TIA

Then I would definitely find someone Greek who can be your Koumbaro or Koumbara (sponsor) and do the crown (stefana) & ring exchange and the ceremonial dance of Isaiah since these are really the hallmarks of the Orthodox ceremony
The 'magic' number in the Greek Church is 3, so things are usually done 3 times:
Exchange of Rings
During the Betrothal, the rings are blessed over the heads of the bride and groom three times, after which they are placed on the fourth finger of the right hand.
The Crowning
The priest takes up the crowns and makes the sign of the cross three times each over the heads of the bride and groom, and then places the crowns on their heads. The crowns are a symbol that the newly married couple receive the grace of the Holy Spirit to be the founders of a new generation and are crowned with virtue and holiness to serve all their lives to the glory of Almighty God.
The Ceremonial Walk (Dance of Isaiah)
The priest takes the bride and groom by the hand and leads them around the table three times while three hymns are chanted. The circle symbolizes eternity. The triple circling is an honor of the Holy Trinity.
More information about these are on page 11 of this thread.
Feel free to ask more questions...that's what we're here for.

hmmm...you could do as they sit down. if you want to do when everyone is sitting, you may want to give your mom and FH's mom bags with petals that they can distribute to the first 2 rows...there's less disturbance that way (or at least I envision it as less disturbing...you know your family dynamics better, so you might see it as more disturbing)

Thanks, I was thinking that too, that it might be better to have someone standing in the front and hand it to those in the front two rows. Thank you so much.
