Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

The church programs are a great idea and I thnk they would be fairly expensive to do with the invitaion lady. Im really excited about it.. Its really a great idea. Now I guess if I included some sort of dedication/rememberance to my departed family members I would put it in this as well, right?

A friend of mine got married last month and had the dedication on the back side of the program. You can also do the dedication inside if you want and have room. I don't think I kept that program, but if I find it, I'll FM you the wording of the dedication.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

My FH is Greek and we are getting married at Saint Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Shrine Church in Greenlawn. I love the symbolism during the ceremony and I think that's a great idea to have something printed out for the guest so they can understand the whole symbolism. I may do a program or something for the day of or insert something in the invitation. That's such a great idea.

Also, FH and I are paying for the wedding, and he too is arguing with me as to who's name goes first. But since I'm designing my invites, he doesn't have much say

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

For all my fellow Greek brides....

When do you guys plan on giving (or have given) your koubaro's & koubara's gift?

I know tradition is to give it to them the day of the wedding, but I would prefer to give it to them at the rehearsal dinner when I give the bridal party their gifts....has anyone done this?

In my family we always give the gifts to the koumbarous and the rest of the bridal aprty at the rehearsal dinner...perfectly normal in my opinion to do it that way.

Thanks girls!

That's what I will do...I would hate having them just sit there at the RD while everyone else opens their gifts....and this way I have one less thing to worry about the day of the wedding!

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

I was reading the post about programs explaining the wedding service and I read...

'During the Betrothal, the rings are blessed over the heads of the bride and groom three times, after which they are placed on the fourth finger of the right hand.'

Really? The rings are placed on the right, not the left??

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

Yes but that is what I believe to be really traditional from what our priest explained to us. He said that after we exchange the rings we can switch them over to the left.

I've seen at a lot of weddings the groom dancing with mom to 'Mana mou'...a very sappy song in my opinion

I don't remember of any greek songs for father and bride

Yeah, I dont really like that song. I told FH him and his mom should dance to a zembekiko or to a traditinal Epirotiko song.

Re: *~*~*~*~GREEK BRIDES WEDDING THREAD~*~*~*~*

To all my fellow Orthodox girls. I know the Orthodox church has periods in which weddings are not performed. I am trying to book a hall and want to make sure that it does not coincide with those dates when there are no weddings... anyone know where i can get that info?

TIA

I got this info from a greek church's website:

Marriages are not performed during fast days or fasting seasons. From December 12 to Dec 26, January 5th and 6th, From Clean Monday to Easter Sunday, from All Saints Sunday to June 29, from August 1 to 15, Aug 29, Sept. 14.

On the Great Feast Days of our Lord. January 6th, Easter Sunday, Pentecost Sunday, Christmas Dec. 24 and 25. On these days weddings are performed if it is extreme emergency and if a special permission is obtained by the metropolitan.
