Greek/Italian Weddings~Anyone??

Original post by MrsRallis07

I'm Italian & my FH is Greek.
Are there any other Greek/Italian weddings going on? I'm curious to know some Greek or Italian traditions that maybe my FH & I aren't aware of. Any ideas?

Do Greeks really break plates? Do catering halls actually allow this to happen?
I know about the money dancing which I think is cool. Is there anything else?

What are some good traditional Italian songs?
I'm having a hard time thinking of past Italian weddings that I've been too.

At an ITALIAN WEDDING five almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: health, wealth, happiness, fertility, and longevity. These almonds decorate each place setting as favors, tucked into pretty boxes or decorative bags called 'bomboniere'. The pretty packages are often personalized with the couple's names and wedding date.

So five sugared almonds are symbolically eaten

They remind us that life is both bitter and sweet.

The five almonds are five wishes for the new husband and wife

These wishes are health, wealth, happiness, children, and a long life

Thank you Tilde...I love this stuff

for the italian side:

i am dancing with my dad to figlia mia

then there are the regular italian songs like the tarantella and that baccala song lol

i think italians and greeks both have hte big elaborate favors (bomboniere) we joke in my family that if my mom had her way we would be giving every guest a brand new car - lol

hahahah true the favors have to be elaborate. My italian friend married my greek friend last year and at her shower they had the biggest favors, they were condiment dishes, really nice.

I know isn't it funny how we have to have the biggest favors

I went to a wedding three weeks ago and the bride and groom gave us two pieces of chocolate as their favor. When I got home my parents were dying to see what the favors were. They were shocked so was my FH & I. It's just not how we were rasied.. They weren't Italian or Greek

I like having big favors..whenever I go to my family's house or a close friend...I see some favors that they constantly use.....like a bowl., candy dish, fruit bowl.

My sister gave a fruit bowl and its in everyone's kitchen! I still have mine =)

I LOVE big favors too. Something that your guest can keep and reuse as a keepsake from your special day

I don't like favors that you can eat and then it's over

We got our favors from www.sognodisposausa.com in Glendale Queens.

They have favors imported from Italy. I had my bridal registry there too. LOVE THEM

Thanks Girls

We're not getting married in a Greek church so I don't have to worry about the crown crossing. We're getting married at JT & it's a non religion mass.

I have the boubournieres ordered & I added the jordan almonds in an odd number for good luck.

We aren't having a Greek band. We have a DJ. So, just curious who gets the money if we don't have a Greek band?? My FH's family said it goes to the DJ or the Maitre D'. Is that correct?

Keep the ideas coming girls...I love them!!!
And Congrats to you all

is the dj a greek dj? if so, then i would say him because he knows of the custom and probably expects it. if he isn't, then i don't see why he would get it, especially since he won't know to expect it. did you discuss this with the dj when you booked?

i don't see why the maitre'd would get it though?

hey hey,
Greek Bride stepping in. ONLY if the DJ is a greek dj then he will expect the $ that falls on the floor. if not the m'd doesnt get anything.. and the bride and groom keep the mouuuuula.

as far as the plate breaking. NO we are not allowed to do that anymore in the US. to many halls have had insurance issues where people have stepped on glass or whatever and they dont want to deal with it anymore.
SOME halls... sy that u can bring ur own plates and break them and they will have a blind eye and they make u sign some kind of waiver that if somoene gets hurt they are not responsable...etc.
i guess it is kinds dangerous right?
anyhoo... hope this helped alittle

I am probably getting my invites and favors from Gifts of Love ( also in Glendale) i believe they are the same owners! I may check out sogno di sposa also!!

Yeah - I am looking forward to picking out my favors!

My brother did a donation and cookies as his favor! So, my mom went out and bought crystal clocks and gave them to our family here, in italy and to all her friends AFTER the wedding as the favor.
