Groomsmen want to play dungeons and dragons on the wedding day!

My boyfriend's groomsmen have suggested playing D&D between the AM rehearsal and the pictures. They invited the rest of the D&D group to do this -- even though there are not in the wedding party.

Are they insane!?!

Who plays D&D on the day of a wedding?

Not to mention:
1. there is only about and hour and half of down time during the day.
2. Not all the groomsmen play, including one who is flying in from Chicago. What will he do during this time?
3. My mother planned a brunch for the wedding party, which these losers are planning on skipping to play this D&D game.
4. They have no sense of time management and will refuse to stop playing a game it 'they are in the middle' of something. We once left them in our apartment because they wouldn't stop, when I came home.
5. They were planning on bring their girlfriends down with them, so they won't have to come alone later. What are their girlfriends - who don't play -- going to do at this time?

I didn't think GROWN men played D&D anymore...but then again, men will always be boys right?

I'd set your foot down and let them know that there won't be any time for D&D and that the photographer will need any extra unallocated time.

That wouldn't make me happy - especially the part about time management.

Lay down the law. They can play when the wedding is over.

I didn't even think people played D & D at all anymore. I would definately put my foot down. That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. They would skip wedding activities to play a game . You're going to have to whip out your inner bridezilla.

YOu know what - when do they think they are getting dressed for pictures?? Not before the rehearsal, so theyll have to during that time!

Wow - thats a new one! What does your FH think of all this? Is he with them or you?
I would definitely put your foot down (would help if FH would too) and tell them that they can't do this - you don't want to have to worry about them forgetting what time it is because they're so engrossed in a game. Sound like there's plenty for them to do and other people to be with, and its a short amount of time that they shouldn't need to play a game to fill the time.
Geesh, talk about immature... this one floored me!

3 of the 5 groomsmen play their own private version of D&D with FI every week. (

They guys just don't seem to get it.

I flipped out when I heard and tolf my boyfriend that they shouldn't do it. He told me I was way over reacting an that it was just a joke. But I saw the email from this GM -- they were totally serious.

I have posted the email below.

Great game last night. I actually enjoy the speed of the pacing. I think
I am getting the pacing and storytelling style required by these short
games. I believe David is going to be gone for a couple of weeks at least so I
think we are going with Brian's game for at a couple of games. I will be
in Maryland on Sunday and won't be returning until the 31st Wednesday. A
weekend game would be the best for me next week.

weekend game is difficult for me considering this weekend we are all going
out, and i think im getting married next week

You know how we have rehearsal and then we have a few hours between
rehearsal and the actual wedding, I can pull together a short 2 hr game.

Tell them they have to go to the brunch because your mom has gone to a lot of trouble to organize it and its part of their 'groomsmen' duties. that way the girlfriends and other non D&D groomsman can be involved too.

i'm still laughing over this one... sorry, i know it must suck for you!

I would suggest its a good idea with everything you mentioned. sounds to complicated. on the other hand, its one of his last moments with the guys (being single)

Seemed to work out perfect becuase it made it to our tv show 'Whose Wedding Is It Anyway'

Though I see where you are going with this, I don't think it is really the same. Also we have a much tighter day since our rehearsal is the morning of the wedding, and we are taking all the pictures before hand.

Lay down the lay now!!!! I say this because my first boyfriend was a D&D player, and I know when they 'get in the zone' they dont pick up the phone and cant be interrupted!
