Groomsmen want to play dungeons and dragons on the wedding day!

Original post by hocus

My boyfriend's groomsmen have suggested playing D&D between the AM rehearsal and the pictures. They invited the rest of the D&D group to do this -- even though there are not in the wedding party.

Are they insane!?!

Who plays D&D on the day of a wedding?

Not to mention:
1. there is only about and hour and half of down time during the day.
2. Not all the groomsmen play, including one who is flying in from Chicago. What will he do during this time?
3. My mother planned a brunch for the wedding party, which these losers are planning on skipping to play this D&D game.
4. They have no sense of time management and will refuse to stop playing a game it 'they are in the middle' of something. We once left them in our apartment because they wouldn't stop, when I came home.
5. They were planning on bring their girlfriends down with them, so they won't have to come alone later. What are their girlfriends - who don't play -- going to do at this time?

But D&D is different!!!! You ladies that dealt with this before know what I am talking about!!!!

I dunno. I used to play D&D when i was like 15. It was a lot of fun and VERY addicting if you get into it.

But it isn't THAT bad. I would think the masses here would agree that poker would be worse (cause its gambling).

But who knows I guess. Good luck with whatever you end up doing!

I know how FH is with his games and he loses all track of time-I would say no!

Again I gotta say that D&D is completely different from golf or video games. The players are in another world, like seriously, and they cannot stop no matter what time it is!

The point that bothered me about this whole thing is not that hes playing a game on the most important day of his life, cause I would have no problem if he played poker, golf, etc. But D&D is different!!!! You ladies that dealt with this before know what I am talking about!!!!

Heather, I knew you'd understand!!!!!

OK, I saw this post subject and immediately started PIMP.

My DH is currently RUNNING A GAME of D&D Right This Second, while I'm home cleaning the apartment for some guests coming over. Well, it isn't D&D, but as far as the Role Playing Game knowledge of this crowd goes it may as well be. Anyway, the fact is that my husband is one of a HUGE crowd of geeks. We make regular trips back up to our college town so that he can game with the old crowd. One of those people almost got very mad at me because he wasn't sure if we'd set the date for the same weekend as Gen-Con. No Kidding. Luckily, we hadn't.

All that considered, I told DH about this post before he left for the evening, and he thought it was funnier than I did. D&D on your Wedding Day?! He almost didn't believe me.

It *is* preposterous. It *is* inappropriate. And this is not a video game, or a round of golf, or even a pick up basketball game. All of those things are MUCH less involved than D&D. Especially with people who have been playing as long as I'm guessing Hocus' DH has. I'd hardly expect anyone who hasn't played, or hasn't played since they were 15 to understand the mentality of grown gamers. I wouldn't necessarily pound the gavel on your FH, Hocus, but I would probably sit him down and ask for him to display a little sense.

Tom, yeah, you played X-box the day of your wedding, and you were still on time, but you probably answered the phone when Jill called, right?

Yeah. Gamers Don't Answer the Phone.

I swear they don't. Our GM back in Binghamton practically throws a fit if it even rings.

I promise you guys, you don't know what these girls are up against. I'm a Gaming widow ( ) I do.

ETA: Poker may be gambling, but at least the guys I know answer the phone during poker.

No way! They say you have to choose your battles but if I were you I'd choose this one. D&D and Weddings just don't mix!

One of my other Gaming Widow friends and I are discussing this, and we think that you should tell him that he's taking a lot of hit points for this, and unless he wants to crit fail the wedding night, he may want to reconsider.

Tell him that you have some great wedding night outfit that gives you a +10 in Sexiness. Heck, if he's lucky, he might even level up!

My guy plays a role playing game a few nights a week..it gets on my nerves

but honestly, if he wanted to play d&d on the wedding day between needing him, Id rather have him do that than go get sloppy drunk like some guys do

A wedding is about romance, not poker or D&D, these all factor into the celebration of our love

Im sorry, I know its off topic now but I dont agree with this statement

There is little romance on a wedding day- more like stress and schedules ....

Its about two people and their personalities coming together- and if any bride or groom for that matter cannot accept this facet of their s.o's lifestyle, then they should not be getting married.

If my FH wants to play X-box between getting ready and pics, Im all for it cause it will be his way of chilling out before hand

I came in late on this, but here is my opinion.....i did not have any brunch or anything before the wedding ceremony, but honestly, as long as DH was on time at the church for me at 3:30, I wasn't too worried about what he did that morning. I also know he was very nervous, probably more nervous than I. If he wanted to do something to relax the morning of, I would have been fine with it.

Actually, I was more worried about one of my brothers, who was giving me away getting there on time than I was about DH.

ok boys and girls, enough is enough

this has turned into something way off topic and not very nice.

To the original poster: good luck and i hope you and your fiance have a wonderful day, regardless of how your bridal/groomsmen party spend their time.

You'd better watch it - throwing around my thunderous applause like that!!!

and Palebride is one word - no need to double capitalize!
(I believe correcting the spelling of one's name is acceptable, according to the site's grammar rules )

I agree with all of you ladies!! There is so much more that your husband to be should be thinking about on his wedding day. He's marring the woman of his dreams and he wants to play games with his friends??!!! As for the bride who didn't get mad that her FH played a game of golf on their wedding day, let's be serious was she really ok with it?? Or just trying to keep the peace?? Put your foot down, let him know the plans your mother has for a bunch, also that the Photograher may need everyone for pictures during that time, and that you might just want to steal a few quiet moments alone together. It's your wedding day. . . not game night with the boys. Good luck and I hope it all works out for you!
