Groomsmen want to play dungeons and dragons on the wedding day!
Original post by hocus
My boyfriend's groomsmen have suggested playing D&D between the AM rehearsal and the pictures. They invited the rest of the D&D group to do this -- even though there are not in the wedding party.
Are they insane!?!
Who plays D&D on the day of a wedding?
Not to mention: 1. there is only about and hour and half of down time during the day. 2. Not all the groomsmen play, including one who is flying in from Chicago. What will he do during this time? 3. My mother planned a brunch for the wedding party, which these losers are planning on skipping to play this D&D game. 4. They have no sense of time management and will refuse to stop playing a game it 'they are in the middle' of something. We once left them in our apartment because they wouldn't stop, when I came home. 5. They were planning on bring their girlfriends down with them, so they won't have to come alone later. What are their girlfriends - who don't play -- going to do at this time?

I would say to your FH 'I really don't feel comfortable with you playing D&D on the DAY of our wedding'...he should respect that ...IMO

you definitely can not allow it. it's the silliest thing I've ever heard. I'd be damned before I spent 30K+ on one day and people played D&D on our wedding day

So you totally know my pain. We once almost had to leave them in our apartment, because they just couldn't stop. It was too important. Seriously they wouldn't leave. We we out the door before they realized that we were going to leave.
If I though it were just going to be a casual game I would cool with it, but I know it won't be. Spades or poker would be cool -- but honestly it is only an hour and half. Presumably they just hang out.

Lay down the lay now!!!! I say this because my first boyfriend was a D&D player, and I know when they 'get in the zone' they dont pick up the phone and cant be interrupted!

Are you girls kidding with your 'lay down the law comments'?
Give the guys a break. They are only playing a little board game before the wedding.
D&D is no different than playing something stupid like Monopoly.
I am a 'groom' and thank god my wife wouldn't have any issues if I wanted to do something like this. Hell... I went out clubbing with my groomsmen the night before my wedding!
I read a story on here that a wife posted that a bunch of guys went to play a round of GOLF WITH the groom on their wedding day! And the bride (although she was a little concerned)... didn't have a major cow about it.
LIGHTEN UP LADIES! I am sure all you brides will be WAY too busy on your wedding day with getting ready to even think about what your future husband will be doing.

Its not a question of lightening up.. If there is time for you to do something relaxing before the wedding and you and your fiance agree on it then by all means have fun. The original post was written by someone who was obviously concerned that the groomsmen would be too engrossed in their little fantasy game and would forget about where they needed to be, thereby causing a schedule to be thrown off. Also, there is a brunch being thrown by the mother for everyone to go to at that time, so there's no need for them to have to play anything. Going out the night before has nothing to do with it either - thats not the issue.
And as far as saying 'Us brides' will be too busy on the wedding day to think about what our future husbands will be doing??? Who do you think a bride is getting married to? Her future husband! The day is about the couple and should be enjoyed and participated in by both of them, not just the bride. That sounds like an extremely sexist comment if you ask me.

As as much as you think what I said was 'sexist'... I think what the original poster is saying is 'selfish'.
Sorry... its just my opinion and I am entitled to it.
Its kinda of sad to think that this guy has to 'get permission' to spend some quality time with his friends... wedding day or not.

Re: Groomsmen want to play dungeons and dragons on the wedding day!
If the guys don't want to go to the brunch... they don't want to go to the brunch. They shouldn't be FORCED to go (regardless of what they want to do instead).
And the original poster is worried about what the GFs will do... what the one groomsman will do... etc etc while they play... why be worried about what they are going to do? Are any of these groomsmen YOUR friends? Or are they all his buddies?
And as far as 'having bad time management'... lets face it... they are ADULTS. I am sure he isn't going to miss his own wedding.
But go ahead and force him not to enjoy himself. I'm telling you it may cause some unecessary tension.

I think quality time to somebody is whatever you want it to be. Whether its video games, playing poker, a round of golf (which was talked about here), etc etc.
Just as much as women may think 'quality time' with their friends is say going to a spa... guys think differently.
I really enjoyed the time I spent with all my groomsmen the day of my wedding. I would hate to have this taken away.

I don't think spending quality time with his friends is the issue. The problem seems to be that the guys won't stop playing D&D for anything or anyone. Playing D&D on the wedding day is inconsiderate if their game will throw off the schedule or ruin a wedding day brunch.
If he can't stop the game to get married... the OP is marrying the WRONG PERSON.
Why should the guy be FORCED to do a brunch with the FMIL?
Would it then be ok for the guys to skip the brunch and just sit around his place drinking coffee and eating crumpets?

Well that I can't comment on since I don't know his tastes or preferences.
But if thats what he wants to do on his last day of being single... then by all means!
I just think extreme care should be taken in this situation. I would not be happy if my wife did something like this. Then again I know my wife wouldn't... but thats another story.
