Guiliani for President?

Would you like to see Rudy Guiliani run for president in 2008? Why or why not?

Re: Guiliani for President?

I don't know if I would vote for him because I am by far a republican my since a Republican is going to run I think he would be a good choice.

Re: Guiliani for President?

I absolutely LOVE Guiliani and always have and would be thrilled for him to lead our COuntry...

Yes, he has has past issues in his life, but who hasn't?

I think he has the compassion and love for this Country and would be awesome as President.

Re: Guiliani for President?

I tend to agree. I'm not Republican, but over the years I have learned to look more at competence, character and concern for the country over party affiliation. I think I'd definitely feel safer with him in office (much more so than Bush). JMO.

As many times as Hillary has said she wouldn't run (and it's all on tape Hillary), she better not run. Then we'd all know that we couldn't take her at her word. I for one, who am not even necessarily a Hillary-basher, would not feel safe with her in office. And the media, who think women are just to be considered for their sexuality and their fashion sense, wouldn't cover her flatteringly at all, and as a result, we'd be more fodder for foreign ridicule and contempt.

Re: Guiliani for President?

I think Guiliani is VERY popular in NY primarily because of 911
BUT i don't think as popular in the rest of the US...

I remember when Guiliani was HATED here by many many people! 911 somehow made him a god..

It's funny how a crisis will change one's mind, isn't it? By my own admission, I was not a Guiliani fan before 9/11. I had only started to come around right before 9/11 happened. But rather than turn him into a god, (and I know what you mean by that, don't worry), it really demonstrated his leadership capabilities. The thing that I disliked him for so much in the beginning of his term as mayor is the one thing that I began to dig him for later: he does not compromise with lawbreakers. He's tough. I think he'd be the kind of president that would tell Osama to go f**k him self and then hunt him down and help him do it. I could be wrong. JMO.

Let's not forget how popular Bush was after 9/11 too and look at how he is viewed now.

Re: Guiliani for President?

I agree that NY loves him, but the rest of the country doesn't feel the same way (or even know him very well).

He probably wouldn't win.

I agree with you somewhat. The rest of the country probably doesn't feel about him to THE DEGREE that NY does, but they know him well enough. When 9/11 happened don't forget the entire country got to meet him up close and personal on TV from all of the media coverage. The president himself congratulated Guiliani on his rise to the occasion during the crisis. I think that if terrorism takes a turn for the worse in this country (Lord please NO!) he would actually at least have a shot. In any event, I think he'd TROUNCE Hillary.

Re: Guiliani for President?

True enough. He did an AMAZING job during 9/11.

I don;t think Hillary will run. If she does, she won't win anyway. Even if she was the best candidate, there is no way a woman would be elected- this country unfortunately would never allow it. (yet)

Re: Guiliani for President?

Didn't Rudy have a bad reputation pre-9/11???

I do recall people walking around with posters that depicted him as Hitler.

Re: Guiliani for President?

In Ny people REALLY didn't like Giuliani prior to 9/11. he really took a lot of the character our of the city and really tried to 'clean it up' to an extreme that I really was not happy with. people just worshipped him after 9/11, which he did hand;e stunningly. I think Giuliani was a pretty good mayor and he did a LOT of good for the city, reducing the crime rate, getting us through 9/11, etc..but I really am skepticla fo his support of the republican party at large. he's supporting things that are so antithetical to the kind of city he presided over..it just seems strange that he's swinging right all of a sudden, when previously he was VERY moderate. I'm kind of upset with my man major mike about that as well. I mean, he wasn't even really a republican

I agree that people now worship him for 'getting us through 9-11'. I however STILL don't like him and would never vote for him.

Re: Guiliani for President?

i want Giliani to run - and we should know pretty soon if he has that desire - and talked withthe republican party - Guiliani is a strong leader but needs foreign relations help, so Bush need to have him appointed to a position with some duties involving international relations but also keeps him in the public eye

now that one election - the republicans will start looking soon for their next strong candiates and getting them ready to run -
