Re: Guiliani for President?
If anything, I think he should run for NY Governor once Pataki is out of office. I love how Guiliani cleaned up the City and has a no nonsense policy about things. I noticed a huge difference when I started working in the city from when he first took office to when he left.I've heard rumblings that Pataki was going to run for President.

I think Guiliani is VERY popular in NY primarily because of 911
BUT i don't think as popular in the rest of the US...
I remember when Guiliani was HATED here by many many people! 911 somehow made him a god..
I agree that people now worship him for 'getting us through 9-11'. I however STILL don't like him and would never vote for him.
As usual Tracy, I agree with you.

lol, of course, I'm a Mrs. RR myself. :)Pataki is a crook. DH works for a nursing home association and he sees all the things that Pataki does (or should I say doesn't do) for nursing homes and healthcare. PLEASE don't give this man the white house.

I actually think the reverse is true...most of the nation's exposure to Guiliani is primarily post 9/11 where he did an outstanding job under the most difficult situation.
Guiliani pi$$ed off a lot of city workers while he was mayor, many went years without raises, etc.
He did amazing things for the city...made it a safe a nicer place to live, work and visit after Dinkins pratically destroyed it. But he stepped on a lot of toes on the way.

Re: Guiliani for President?
I'm a big fan of Guiliani but I was before 9/11 as well. As much as I like him, I think his tactics are more for running a city or possibly a state (senate or governor) but not a country. Diplomacy is not exactly his strong suit. He definitely rules with an iron fist, which is what this city needed when we voted him in, but I don't think that'll work for the whole country. IMO he'd never even get the nomination.

Re: Guiliani for President?
my dad was a teacher and said when used to take the kids up to albany, cuomo always came out to say hello to the kids (5th graders) when he took them up and Pataki was in...he would never come out say hello - just thought you'd like to hear that...Anyway - do you think the country is ready for a Guiliani - the issue w/ his marriage and coming out w/ Judith before he was divorced (all the conservatives will jump on that) - I heard he also badmouthed the troops the other day - can't stand by that one b/c I didn't hear it w/ my own ears...just on the radio... but he was great for NYC.
I lived in the city for 10 yrs. and saw alot of good changes while he was mayor - not all of them manhattan-ites loved - like the changes on 42nd street - making it more Disney-fied or Vegas-like...but the tourists love it...some people missed the 'seediness' of the city...
I like Guiliani's new look though

I think it was the Today show, I saw the clips. He was defending Bush and in the process it came out as if he were berating the troops. It was about finding either Bin Laden or WMDs in Iraq, I can't remember.
Either way, when you see the whole interview, it really wasn't that big a deal.

If Pataki becomes president, look for me in Bora Bora. I'm sorry, but IMO, he is the pits!

Re: Guiliani for President?
I agree with a former post that said that while NYC needed Rudy's iron fist style of governing, it might not work for an entire country. New Yorkers, even the ones who didn't like it, understood it because of the nature of the City. I wouldn't mind seeing him stepping in as governor once Pataki's gone. And for me, Pataki can't be gone soon enough.

I think Guiliani would be a great President, he proved he was a strong and competent leader, especially since 9/11 & he would have my total support.

I agree - I think Guiliani's biggest strength was also his biggest weakness - he's a prosecutor, not a diplomat. I'm a fan of Guiliani - I voted for him twice as a democrat and voted for his successor, bloomberg.
But I don't think he'll get the nod. I think McCain must have been promised something in order for him to get up there and support George Bush. McCain is extremely loyal to his party - but it's certainly no secret that he hated Bush - I think McCain will be the Republican nominee for 2008.

Re: Guiliani for President?
Guiliani will have a hard time getting the Republican ticket because he is considered a 'VERY LIBERAL' republican. He is pro-choice... and pro-gay. Not something the Republican party wants to trot around in public.
But I would love to see him wipe the floor with Hillary in '08.

IMO she'll never get the nomination either. The Dem's are shell shocked right now after their major losses this election (not just Kerry - Daschle and the other Congress seats). They're going to start looking now for the best possible candidate. Look for Obama in 2008.

Wow! Never thought of Obama. He's excellent. (I just wish his name was not so close to you-know-who's.)

I'm sorry, this just struck me as funny - it reminded me of Harry Potter - 'He who shall not be named'
From what I've heard of him, I think I could really like Obama.

I live in Chicago and have heard him speak and seen him around the community. He's an awesome speaker. I hope he does great things while he's in Washington and can see the possibility of him running. But, I think 2008 is a little early for him for two reasons - He needs to prove himself as a senator first to gain more credibility within the party and I don't think the country is ready for a black president yet. i like him! It would be really interesting if her ran against Hillary![]()

As many times as Hillary has said she wouldn't run (and it's all on tape Hillary), she better not run. Then we'd all know that we couldn't take her at her word. I for one, who am not even necessarily a Hillary-basher, would not feel safe with her in office. And the media, who think women are just to be considered for their sexuality and their fashion sense, wouldn't cover her flatteringly at all, and as a result, we'd be more fodder for foreign ridicule and contempt.
So you are saying you would not vote her for because she is woman even if she was qualified for the job?

I would agree, given that many people came out to vote so that they could deny gay people rights, Obama would have a snow ball's chance in hell as a Black candidate.
