Had an issue re: one of Debi's friends wanting to bring her baby to Debi's shower
Original post by debismom
She left a message, saying she could come, but would be bringing her baby, if that's ok, and if it's not ok, to call her, and she could get someone to watch him. Ok, I called and very nicely said we will not be having babies or children at the shower, because it's such a small room, and it only holds 20 people, and we overinvited ( which is normal in my book); I told her we definitely want people to come, but I didn't think the space would be comfortable for servers to wedge in and out with tea, and food, if we have baby carriers etc. She then said she wouldn't be able to find anyone to keep her baby, when the message she left previously, was she could find a sitter, and it sounded like no big deal. Then, she said she usually wears her baby, so there would be no carrier on the floor etc. This Mom sounded a bit put out with my decision, and didn't even say good bye!!! Just hung up!! I hope Debi doesn't have a problem with this. I don't mean to sound anti baby/children, because I love them, but the space is just not conducive to it. Thanks for listening!! Mary MOB

Sounds like she didnt expect you to say no!!
Are you too nice Mary!?!?!?! LOL Glad that you put your foot down! I do NOT want kids at my shower!
Morn'in, Kim!!!!! I'm not usually up with the chickens but Debi called me because I had left a message about this. Initially, she thought I should have told this Mom, to bring her baby, but after, telling her about all the responses, and pointing out we would have had to invite everyones' child/children, she was agreed. If we invited the 13 children, only seven adults could come. And I still don't think having infants and children in a crowded room with hot tea pots, is safe. Have a great day, Kim!!!! Mary MOB

Well that woman needs to realize that it is an ADULT party....if you do it for one, then you have to do it for all! I understand having children may cause some issues with going out....however I would think people would welcome the opportunity to enjoy themselves without having their child there!! Same thing with weddings...I wouldnt bring my kids!!
