Hair/makeup at house or at salon?

Original post by gfield101

My normal girl does both hair and make up, but at the salon, which is only 2 minutes from my house.

They dont do house calls and if we go there, there would be enough girls so that we would all be getting either hair or make up done at the same time. They use mineral make up and I loved my trial. They dont do clip on extentions, I may be able to buy my own and have them add it in though.

But is it more convenient for everyone to have someone come to the house? I know its more expensive? Your thoughts? pro's? cons?

we booked at the salon. i feel comfortable knowing everything they need is right there and that we can cater breakfast/mimosas/coffee etc. and not have to worry about making a mess in the house or anything. We are also at the end of may, and i'm worried about blowing a fuse in my house with all of the hair dryers and stuff haha

As a makeup artist myself, I have done makeup both at a salon and at people's homes. I can tell you from experience that having the artist at your home is easier for everyone. You don't have to worry about leaving anywhere, getting someplace else on time and we don't have to worry about you running late. You're comfortable in your own home, you can relax in your pj's and it's less stressful to plan!

HTH!

I am having my hair stylist come to TVI, since I'll be staying there the night before the wedding. I will also have the makeup artist come there, as well.

Has anyone else had mineral makeup done for their wedding? I'd only heard negative things about it from different sites because it reflects the light and doesn't show up well in photos. I'd love to know because as someone who doesn't wear foundation, etc. I feel like mineral would be much more comfortable!

If you notice... This thread was started in 2007. Now in 2013, it seems to be cheaper sometimes to have someone come to you. Plus most traveling stylists specialize in special occasion hair. Most of the girls at my salon don't do updos or they do them but very rarely. The updos start at $85 there and can reach $250 for a bride. I think the average for a on location stylist is like $150. I'm starting my search for stylists that will come to me!

I am kind of doing both. I have my bridal party getting ready at the salon. I set them up for hair and makeup there. Once they are all done then they will come to my house and get dressed.

I am having a make up and hair stylist come to my house to take of myself and my mother and mother in law. This way it is less stress the morning of. Not to many people running around going crazy stressing me out more.

My parents live a few blocks from my regular salon and since I'm staying by them the night before, I'm going to my salon for hair and makeup, then heading to the hotel to get dressed.
