Has a vendor ever said this to you??? (changed my screen name for this one!)

so i was speaking with one of my vendors the other day. i got married several months ago. and the vendor said to me, 'i saw all that stuff you posted about us on LIWeddings...' so i was taken aback about it, and was like 'Huh???' so he was just like 'it was very nice of you, just wanted to say thanks'.
obviously this person knew it was me by what i wrote (probably from my avatar pic as well), but it made me very uncomfortable that he said it to me. am i overreacting???

I could definitely see being uncomfortable. THis is our forum to talk about things and they shouldn't comment o it. I am sure he meant no harm because he was really just thanking you for a positive review - but what if you wrote something negative? What is he going to do - start a fight with you?

i'm sure he wasn't trying to make you feel uncomfortable. if it was me, i would be surprised to.

I know it probably seems strange and I can see why it took you aback, but these are OPEN forums and anyone can read what we are writing here. You don't even need to be a member to read the posts... (only have to join if you want to make a post)

While the vendors aren't allowed to post on any of the boards except Vendors, they definitely read what we write about them... so it doesn't surprise me at all

Luckily I loved the majority my vendors, and quite a few of them FM'd or emailed me to thank me for the good reviews I gave them here.. and truthfully if I had something NEGATIVE to post I would probably try to resolve it with them first, then issue a warning about them here also.

My point being - i don't believe we should 'hold back' or edit what we say .. but just know that if you are going to post something negaitve, postive or otherwise.. its likely that the vendor in question will hear/read about it . I'm not saying its RIGHT, its just the way it is

I think that the vendors really appreciate the positive reviews because it must really help their business and I wouldn't think it's weird. Thats business, as much as this board is a forum for brides, it's also big business for vendors. I'm sure it's a little awkward because as we type all these posts and reviews etc. our audience is the Brides, but we sometimes forget the vendors read everything too! kinda scary!

Actually last night I went to see my photographer and she knew (not exactly sure how) about my post on LIW about the disaster with my hall. I hadbn't had the chance to tell her yet because I was waiting to meet with her. But it was a little weird that she knew before I said anything.

Yup, it happened to me. I made a comment about a vendor and they called me up on it. I don't have my picture or name or reception place for that reason. Sure enough they called me. I was taken aback and said so. But the truth is sometimes hurts.

I had a vendor send me a FM for making nice comments. I thought it was nice. Part of the reason they advertise here is b/c we all talk about them, so of course they are going to check. I think it's nice to be acknowledged for saying nice things. In a way, it's kind of like you are giving them future business.

i wouldn't care if they FM'd me...but the fact that we don't really use our names here... it just made me feel a little strange. and BTW, this is a vendor that i LOVE!!! i don't care that he read it, but i just felt weird that he said something to me about it!

It would freak me out. Makes me want to change my ID and not post my date or location.

It's a two-edged sword, though. On one hand, I like to see brides' dates and locations to get a sense of credibility, commonality and perspective. On the other hand, do my vendors really need to know what I've put on the 'slim down' board???

This happened to me too! I met with a LIW vendor and I posted a day or two later that I was still looking for a 'vendor'. I listed the people I had visited saying these are the people I met with and I liked them but still wanted to keep looking. Nothing negative was said. And this vendor called me up and said he saw my post. Then tried a salespitch! I don't normally use this word but it's the only word that can describe how I felt. I was flabbergasted. I stumbled on my words and I was quite irritated. So, be warned, vendors read everything! After that incident I never contacted a LIW vendor again! And to top it off I got an unsolicited FM b/c of that post! Oh, well. At least they were contacting you to thank for a positive review. But I get what you're saying!

ETA: that's also why i have no info showing!

YES...not a vender i used but one i was looking at.
I complained about a vender on here and how hard it was to get in touch with them..
low and behold...got a response THAT SAME DAY!

Actually i had asked a question about music and my DJ actually saw my post and fm'd me a list of songs ...which I thought was awesome!!!!!!

I had the same thing happen to me. I was surprised at first. It didn't really bother me though. I didn't mind that he saw what I wrote, since it was all good and it promoted him. I wonder if we are all talking about the same vendors... hmmm

I was once tracked down by a vendor and screamed at! I have since changed my name from that time. It made me very freaked out. The place fired the employee but evere since then I have been careful .
