I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much
Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed. Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well. Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....
So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I just went to a wedding at Captain Bill's in Bay Shore this past Friday, 7/30. The cocktail hour was half inside half out. There were hot dishes inside and others being passed. The inside was pretty crowded, and not a lot of room to sit. The view outside was absolutely beautiful. My dinner was great, I had the chicken stuffed with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto, and FH had the steak which was pretty rare. The cake was fabulous!!!!
The band was Platinum and they did an awesome job!!!! The room was fairly large, and the only complaint about the staff, was they kept taking our plates before we were done, or people had even started to eat. They were quite pushy at times as well.
All in all we had a great time!!!

Great thread!
In the past 2 years I have been to weddings at The Roslyn Claremont Hotel, Lands End and Fox Hollow.
RCH.....is gorgeous so why is the wedding in a basement room with few or no windows? The food was great, service great.
Lands End was the best wedding I'd EVER been to! What a cocktail hour! Dinner was excellent! Viennese was incredible! We had a blast!
Fox Hollow is always good.

Temple Israel of Lawrence (8/1/2004): So I was at probably the most beauuuuuuuuutiful wedding I'll ever go to last night. Just have to say that the bride (my friend Melanie) looked incredible.
The wedding took place at Temple Israel in Lawrence, which is far and away the most beautiful temple I have ever been to. The woodwork, the stainglass windows, all gorgeous. The food was very good. I had the ribeye steak, as did most everyone around me. I think the other options were halibut and cornish game hen. Cocktail hour room was tremendous and very pretty.
The flowers were by Spitz and Peck and they were unbelievable. So tastefully done - they didn't take over the existing decor of the temple. Instead they complimented it.
The band was the Scott Evans band (I'm almost positive that was the name of it). They were a very talented band. I was nervous - this was my first band wedding and I've heard horror stories about how some bands can make you want to rip your ears off but they were very good. I'm still more of a dj girl, definitely provides a different kind of wedding, but they were very good.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Some of these weddings were a few years ago, so my memory is not as clear as the more recent one's...but here goes...
-Temple Emanuel in Great Neck (Sat night - August '99) - I was MOH in this wedding so I remember the bridal attendant being great to my friend! The sanctuary was very pretty...the ballroom beautiful! I remember the food being good (good - I have had better, I have had worse...don't remember what I ate exactly)...remember the cocktail hour room being on the smaller side.
Thatched Cottage (Sat night - May '00) - Unfortunately the day was a washout, so we couldn't appreciate the grounds (which are supposed to be beautiful). The ceremony room was not that big, and I remember them not having enough chairs for it!! They had to find chairs last minute! Not much seating for cocktail hour (I guess b/c they had to have it inside bc of the rain). Ballroom is nice, food was sooooo good!!!
Temple Israel in Lawrence (Sat night - July '00) - BEAUTIFUL temple...I agree with the previous poster...prob the most gorgeous temple on LI!! CH room was great - lots of selection of foods. Can't remember about the seating...I do remember standing the entire CH, so I'm thinking there were not enough seats (this was a HUGE wedding!!) Ballroom was stunning! Food was very good...great Viennesse hour!
Land's End (Sat afternoon - July '01) - Beautiful view!!! It happened to be a picture perfect day! CH was outside...food was amazing and plentiful...especially the shrimp, oysters....Ballroom was beautiful - food, delicious (can't remember what I had). I do remember seeing them vacuuming, etc. in foyer area while we were still in the ballroom (I guess for the night wedding). Did not like that. All in all - great place!
Flowerfield (Sun night - July '03) - BEAUTIFUL place! I was in the Bridal Party and the service beforehand in the bridal suite was wonderfiul! We had tons of food, sodas, water, and champagne in the suite before the wedding. The outside ceremony area - breathtaking!! The CH room and ballroom are gorgeous!!!! The food was great - but I remember not being impressed with the selection of foods at the CH - I thought there would be more variety. For dinner, FI and I bothh had the Chilean Sea Bass - amazing!!!!! Appetizer was lobster risotto purse - huge chunks of lobster w/ risotto in phyllo dough - OMG - to die for!! The cake was actually excellent too! (So were the sour apple martini's!! A little TOO excellent actually! ) This place was phenomenal!
Villa Lombardi's (Fri night - July '04) - Very nice place - in the CH there was seating for everyone (and this was a big wedding!) and there was soooo much food! The food was good (some things were alright - not great i.e. - sushi, meat carvings ...I remember the eggplant rollitini and fried calamari being my favorites here). Ballroom was a little crowded...dance floor too. Huge selection for dinner...I got the shrimp org-something or other (It was shrimp with some type of breading). It was ok. FI got the salmon - he said it was good. Cake was delicious!! Vienesse was amazing!!!
I will be going to a wedding this month at the North Ritz and will post a guest review on that afterwards!!

Russo's: Been there twice. My absolute favorite place!!!
Chateau Briand: Pretty good. I like the CH in the restaurant, niec and roomy.
VIP club in Westchester: So-so service, food was ok.
Fountainhead in Westchester: I remember a great Viennese hour!!
Thats about it!! Keep posting reviews for North Ritz and Fountainhead b/c those are the 2 I can't decide on.

I've been to Russo's for an engagement party. The food was excellent. The only problem is more than one wedding goes on there.
I went to the Lighthouse on Chelsea Piers(not long Island) but close. The place was amazing...right on the water. Negatives -skimpy CH and only two choices for dinner.

Wow!! Only a few posts of Lessing's catering facilities!! Anyone else ever been to West Sayville Country Club? Only one of you out there???
I know the layout of the room is odd, but we liked that because we have an older crowd coming and we didn't want to have our guests shouting to each other to talk.
i was at a wedding at the West Sayville Country Club back in May 2002. Food was really good. I remember I got some type of stuffed fish and my boyfriend (at the time, now DH ) looked at me like I was crazy for trying the fish. IT WAS SOOOOOOOO GOOD THOUGH! The LI's weren't bad either

Riviera (5/04) (Friday night)- Really nice atmosphere, but it was hazy out and CH had to be inside, which was really cramped. It would have been lovely outside. By the time we got up to the food there was almost nothing left. Not enough places for people to sit during CH, the guests were returning to their 'set' places at the tables. As someone mentioned before, the tables go WAY back into the back, where they are single lined up, so for that person all the way in the back, they can't see anything. But everything else was nice there.
Chateau Brian- 6/03- Saturday night- LOVELY place, CH was AMAZING outside in a courtyard, VERY PRETTY! Everything else was great about it! YEAH Scotto Brothers!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
My cousin got married on a Friday and her recption was at the Meadow Club. Unfortunately, it rained so we were unable to take pictures on the grounds, but from what I saw, the gazebo is beautiful and the grounds are layed out very nicely. I was in the bridal party so I didn't get to enjoy the cocktail hour, because we were taking pictures, bustling her dress etc. But they set up some food for us in the bridal suite and what I tried was great! The stuffed mushrooms were out of this world, so were the chiken fajita things! She had a pasta course and salad course. The salad dressing wasn't really a hit - it had a weird taste to it. The entree choices were salmon, prime rib and chicken cordon bleu. I had the prime rib which was yummy and everyone at my table enjoyed their entrees as well. She had a strawberry shortcake as her cake that was amazing. Her reception was in the Terrace room, it was a really nice room. My only complaint is that the waitress didn't bring us drinks to our table and they had 2 bars set up right next to each other at the entrance to the room. Since we were seated near the bride and groom at the other end of the room it was a bit of a hike to get a drink.
We really had a great time time and everything was beautiful - all of you Meadow Club brides have nothing to worry about! You'll have a wonderful reception!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I went to a wedding this past July 2004 at East Wind on a Saturday night. As we pulled inside the venue in our truck, they had someone asking which reception we were going to(so I gather they have more than one) and they pointed us to which ballroom to go to. As we arrived at the main entrance of the South Grand Ballroom for Valet parking, the person in charge asked us if we were staying overnight. I guess this is common since they have an INN in premises and also because it is not very close, many people probably prefer to stay overnight that way they can really drink and not have to worry. We didn’t stay overnight and the gentleman was very poised and nice. He took our truck and we proceed to come in. They had two gentlemen announcing their guests and playing trumpets. I thought this was really cute. As we proceeded into the building, I fell in love with the ambiance and the elegance of the place. They had another staff letting us know where the Cocktail Hour was going to be. The food at the Cocktail hour was delicious and they had a lot of variety. The mussels and stuffed baked clams were delicious, the pasta was incredibly tasty and the cold stations and the fruits were fresh and delicious. There was plenty of space to sit at the CH, which I thought was great. The staff was very cordial and removed the empty plates from the tables very quickly. We were then advised that the reception was going to start. The room was setup so beautiful. The bride had a mix of tall and low centerpieces of roses that looked amazing. I thought that was a great idea and it looked very pretty plus it will save some $$$ as well. I wasn’t too crazy about the layout of the room because I felt all the guests were really away from the Bride and the Groom. The wait staff never asked us if we wanted drinks and they removed the places for the food but for the drinks, I had all the glasses with the drinks that we had on the table. And also, another bride to be from here wanted to know if there were more than two bartenders and there were two of them and only one bar at this room. And also, the bartenders had the bowl for the tips out which didn’t bother me but I think a bride to be for LIW wanted to know if they do that. For the reception, the food was very tasty as well. I had the salmon, which, was delicious and my FH had the beef, which was really delicious and tender. If I had seen this place before I booked mine and it wasn’t so far and the layout of the room was different and I’ve liked it, I’d probably booked this venue for my own wedding. It was really nice. The brides to be that are getting married have nothing to worry about. It was sure a nice place to have a beautiful wedding. Hope this review was helpful and Congrats to all of the ladies that are getting married there. Now if any of the ladies from LIW wants to invite me to their wedding so that I can give a lengthy review from a guest’s point of view, Ask Away!!!
