I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much
Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed. Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well. Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....
So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Timber Point Country Club: August 04 ~ 180-200 people The weather was perfect. so outside CH hour was beautiful exept it was at 6:00 so the golfers were all over but there was enough parking and I didnt mind them. More than enough room to sit on the brand new patio and furnature! CH could of had more food but it wasnt bad. The calamair was great as was the roast beef, turkey, pasta and chicken. Passed ohour derves I didnt even try cause I didnt see any i liked. But FH had a chicken kabob thing that he said was good. One thing was that the pasta stations (2) had no server. It was serve your self. Totally unacceptable to me. Didnt like that the place cards were rolled on to the dance floor after the CH. C-Peices were to small for my taste they were just round bowls with 6-8 roses, babys breath and filler. A slightly larger peice would have complimented the room better. I had the prime rib that was soooo good! Tender jucy and perfectly done. Potatoes werre boring. someone had the chicken that she said was good. Cake was great! But coffee came really late, milk came later and never got the decaf. The Waiter asked me if I wanted a refill and by the time I turned around it was in frunt of me. DJ: For the Record had a great MC but the wedding was kind of low key so not much dancing. OK I'm done.

Lands End August 04:
This is the second wedding I've been to here and it is always great! The c-tail hour is great, drinks are great, and service is wonderful, food is great. The is one of my most favorite places. I would have certainly considered it for my wedding if I could meet the minimum! Nothing bad to say at all!
Coral House August 04:
OK, the first impression was not good. The CH was to be on the roof top terrace but it started to rain which they were not prepared for and about 25 people were standing in the door way for like 10 min before someone instructed us to go downstairs & wait in the lobby. 5 min later we were instructed to go down to the room. When we got down to the new CH room we were told that they were not ready and to go back up. We waited around while people were running all over to get stuff set up. The service was OK. I was not fond of one of the girls who had piercings all over her face and was actually quite rude. I had the beef which was ok. Heard the fish and chicken were good. Overall it was a good wedding. Not the best, not the worst.

I think this thread was a good idea, however everyone's tastes/opinions vary. Someone put up a post about windows on the lake where I am having my reception, and although it wasn't totally bad it did kind of make me feel bad. Here is the thing, there are so many different halls, and so many tastes, options, they are all nice and really the only thing one needs to worry about is service and food. Yes atmosphere is a big part too. I have been to weddings at Giorgios and eastwind 2 of the most popular places and yes the view was breathe taking but you could keep the food. But that is only my opinion and I bet that most people would disagree. I think sometimes its the smaller places that you get so much more for your money and more one on one attention. I feel so bad saying anything negative because people who have booked at places and then hear negative now have added stress. When I was looking I went from one end of the island to the other I saw so many places and I am happy with my decision money wasn't an issue it was more what am I getting for my money. Some of the places that I was warned about I have been to since then and they were excellent. I say just listen to what is being said and do your research.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Just went to a wedding on Friday night at Terrace on the Park. I had been there years ago for a high school prom - but hadn't been there since. The wedding was on the top floor and the cocktail hour was set up on the rooftop terrace - which was awesome. The views were great and it was absolutely HUGE - this was a 230+ person wedding and there was plenty of room on the terrace to walk around, get food, drinks, etc. The food was great - there was an oriental station and I put a ton of hot mustard on my chicken (i thought it was peanut sauce) so i took a big bite of it and burned my mouth off. . . so i didnt eat much more of the cocktail hour food - but that was my own mistake and everyone said that the food was delicious. The ball room is octagon shaped, with a HUGE chandelier and windows everywhere and lots of mirrors and gold. It's not totally my taste (i'm more into dark wood and antiques) but it was really stunning - the lights of the city and the twinkle of the chandeliers catching the glow of the candles on the tables was just wonderful. The band was an Irish band - i think it was called celtic cross - and they played a combination of Irish songs (waltzes, stack of barley, etc) and contemporary stuff. There were tons of people there from Ireland so the music was a big hit and the dancefloor was packed.
I dont remember much about the food - I had the salmon and I thought it was fine. The best part of the night was the desserts and cordial bar. Make your own sundaes, plates of cookies on every table, plus Irish coffees and other drinks. yum.
I think any bride having her wedding there will be really happy with Terrace on the Park. One thing I would mention was that the room we were in got a bit warm throughout the evening, which wasn't a huge deal cause you could always walk out on the terrace. . . but maybe the air conditioning could have been raised a bit.
All in all, a wonderful evening.

Everyone chooses a reception venue because it appeals to them or it is something they are looking for. I created this thread not to create any bad feelings or to make others worried about the place they pick. But rather to be informative and perhaps help us better when dealing with the reception venue. I think if you view it from that perspective, it might give you a whole different insight. I think if someone posts something negative about the place I'm having my wedding, I will be thankful to them because I'm forewarned and also because those issues that were raised, I'd make sure that it doesn't happen at my wedding. This is also the reason why I posted for everyone to post things in a way that is informative because we can all benefit one way or another and everyone has different tastes and ofcourse, we all have different perceptions. I'm quite sure your wedding will be a great one regardless..... And I'm bumping this for Bridetobe06...Bumpety Bump

I went to a Saturday night wedding at the NRC a couple of weekends ago. Here's my guest review!
Ceremony had to be done indoors bc the weather stunk! This was a shame bc I heard the grounds are very pretty, but we never got to see them. To be honest, the chapel room they have at the NRC to do indoor ceremonies was not great. It was downstairs, had no windows, low ceilings, and was sooo hot!! It felt like we were in the basement or something. Also, the way the room is set up, the aisle is SO thin, that it seemed the bride could barely get down the aisle with her dad!
CH - I really liked the cocktail hour room. It was very pretty, quite spacious, and there was enough seating for pretty much everyone. (the wedding size was about 150 - 160 people). There was also an outdoor patio for people to go on which I loved. They had a great selection of food! So many different things to choose from I felt so ovewhelmed!! My favorites were the fried calamari (i had about 3 plates of this alone!) and the spinach pie!! Yum!! FH really liked the penne alla vodka...he couldn't stop eating it!! The only thing about the CH that I didn't love, was that the plates were sooo small. They were the smallest plates I've ever seen at a CH. You could only try one or two things at a time bc they were so small! You either had to keep going back up every few minutes, or try to carry a couple of plates at a time.
Reception - The reception room here is very nice! I love that the bride and groom's table is elevated!! Nice size dance floor is a plus too! As far as the food goes, I didn't touch the salad (bc I was dancing!) so I can't comment on that. For dinner, both FH and I had the talapia and it was delicious!! The dessert was wedding cake and a plate of cookies on the table...both which were good. The service was pretty good too. The only thing I thought was weird is that the waiters did not bring us drinks to the table....so we constantly had to go up to the bar. Secondly - and this may be something to think about for girls who aren't planning on doing menus - the waiters came around and read us the meal choices...however, they did not know how they were prepared or have a description of them. For instance, FH loves chicken and asked what the 'chicken medieraneo' was....and the waiter was like 'hmmm... I dunno'. So FH just decided to get the talapia...which was fine bc it ended up being great....but it's something to think about.
Finally, the last thing is that I wasn't crazy about the bathrooms being downstairs. It was fine for me....but there were quite a few elderly guests at the wedding that I imagine might have a tough time getting downstairs. If there was an elevator to get downstairs....I didn't see it.
All in all, I think this was a great wedding. The NRC is a beautiful place and really has great food!
ETA - Feel free to FM me if you have any specific questions!!

I was in a wedding in June at the Harrison House. It was amazing. The food was so good. I had steak and you could cut it with a fork..the drinks flowed all day and the rooms were gorgeous...the grounds were beautiful. The bar upstairs was fun but there was another wedding after hers and it got so crowded...other then that it was awesome

There is also a handicap bathroom on the floor w/ the reception room and CH room - it is in the room with the bar off the CH room.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Hi all -
I attended 2 weddings this weekend - I want to get out of here tonight so I will post about the 1st at Oheka. I was in the bridal party.
This place was amazing the grounds and hall were just beautiful. The service and food were outstanding, it was a beautiful day so the ceremony was outside which was also great, just remember to have a microphone for the officant because the fountain behind is loud. They opted for a dessert hour and a Jazz hour in the library which was a really nice touch. The staff set everything up and did not ask the bride or her mother for anything. Had a great time you oheka brides have nothing to worry about. The bridal suite was fabulous - 3 bathrooms and a waterfall in the master bath.
any ??? FM

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Thanks for the bump Fresca!
I recently went to a Fri. night wedding at the Watermill.
The CH was outside and the food was super yummy - I would have eaten more, but they ran out of pasta and the carving meat (steak) toward the end of the hour. Both were delicous and I'm sure everyone went up for seconds so that is probably why.
The reception was in the downstairs room and we sat near the bar. it was kind of neat how the bar was sectioned off in its own room. the food was good, but the waitress wasn't the best - she never brought drinks to the table (ggod thing we were close to the bar) and when she asked what we wanted for dinner it went something like this: 'What do you want - the chicken, the meat or the fish?' When asked about the chicken sh replied 'It's chicken with cheese and asparagus' huh? I had the Chatuea Briand - it was great!!! My FH had the salmon - also VERY good. My friend had the chicken - very dry....
The bartenders and other servers were wonderful and everyone else had great service so I think it was just her.
All-in-all a great wedding. Tons of fun and the food was good. The hall is beautiful! All of you Watermill brides made a great choice!
