I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much
Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed. Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well. Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....
So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Fox Hollow - Sat Day in Sept. - This is the 2nd time I've been to a wedding here. The CH was downstairs, great food and service, reception was great! Food was outstanding, service was great. I loved the bridal suite right off the room with it's own patio. Only complaint was there was no one directing us where to go when we left and wound up running into another weddings Viennese hour . They were waiting in the hall and we were all walking threw, the deserts looked great thoe! Overall great wedding! One of the best this year.
P.S I also heard the Larkfield Manor was great, food was good and service also. FMIL went.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
WOW! 2000 was the year of weddings for me. Sorry about it being 4 yrs ago
Woodbury Country Club Sheraton Giorgios Villa Lombardis Meadow Club Majestic Gardens - I was a Bridesmaid
WCC- I didn't like how the coctail hour was in a room where they kick you out of to set up the reception. Other than that it was really nice.
Sheraton- I'm having my wedding there so the wedding I went to was Wonderful!!!
Giorgios- Nothing short of PERFECTION, it's a beautiful place to get married.
Villa Lombardi- a lil too 'gaudy' for me but the reception room was beautiful.
Meadow Club- I didn't like how the room was situated, we couldn't see the bride and groom from our table.
Majestic Gardens- I was a bridesmaid and it was lovely. The coctail hour and grounds are amazing.
Any other info you'd like feel free to FM me

A wedding at THe Crest Hollow Country Club last year:
I'll be careful since there are a lot of Hollow brides on here, but I will say to be careful.
The wedding I went to; there were 3 other brides there at the same time. This makes a wierd environment.
The cocktail hour servers DID NOT KNOW what they were serving when we asked, and most of them did speak english.
The indoor ceremony: There was a LOUD CONVERSATION happening in the back of the room by servers going in and out of the next room...connecting door.
These were the BAD things: Good things:
The food was good, beautiful location-however modern for my taste Reception was well laid out, and Bride and Groom were happy from what I heard.
It's just these little details that I would check with the hall before booking, or even after! Just be specific of your concearns if these are among them.

What a great resource for us newbies!!! I enjoy your reviews and I'm glad people are being honest about the 'negatives'. I didn't make me not want to choose a place (if you love it you love it), it just gives me a heads up, so I can address the issue before hand.
Thanks for the wonderful reviews!

I have a wedding next weekend at the Middle Island Country Club. I know there are some brides on here who are getting married there also. I will give an update after the wedding.

How about The Meadow Club?
November, Ages Ago
I went to my cousin's wedding there years ago - but I remember the rooms being really pretty and the service was fantastic. Great time. The only thing I didn't like was the CH room - it was too cold and dank, but it was November. I just wanted to help! I'm hearing its still as good as ever.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
VILLA LOMBARDI'S: (Saturday afternoon, July 2003) - Excellent! I was MOH, and the food was great - so much food at the CH and all yum yum - and I LOVE the penne ala vodka. I didn't eat much of the entree, or the cake, b/c I was running around like a nut, dancing too much, and having too good a time to eat. Apparently, FH and friends really liked the bartenders - plenty of good service. Place is beautiful.
Only one warning to future VL brides in the afternoon - my only complaint was that as my friend's wedding ended, we were in the bridal suite changing, getting stuff together ( I admit, her BP was not the neatest), and the nighttime bride showed up EARLY. They practically kicked us out of there, starting cleaning up our stuff and shoving it in our hands, making it difficult for my friend to say good bye to people. One waiter even raised his voice. Not so good. (It didn't help that the early bride was standing outside the door watching us - also not so good. That's not nice.) So, be sure to have your stuff put away as the CH ends, so you can just grab and go. Hope that helps!
MAJESTIC GARDENS (Saturday afternoon, November 2003) - Very nice! Outdoor ceremony in the new gazebo was BEAUTIFUL - can you believe it was 70 degrees out? CH was good, mashed potato bar made it worth it. Pasta appetizer was yum yum, bread was ok (a little stale). Don't remember entree - don't think I ate it. Bartender was very sweet, as was the waitstaff. All in all, very good time. The pics in front of the fountain came out awesome!
JERICHO TERRACE (Friday Night, September 2003) Very impressive entrance. Very very yummy CH - but the chairs were a little uncomfortable (I'm not into wrought iron - JMO). Food was good, reception room was very pretty. VH was INCREDIBLE! Great presentation, so many choices, I went up for seconds. Wait staff was pretty attentive, if I remember correctly.
I also went to a wedding this June at a country club in or near Smithtown, but for the life of me, cannot remember the name. When I do, I'll post the review.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
It is so funny how little you can remember about a reception hall when you try...I mostly remember the music and ceremonies! But here's what I can recall:
Westbury Manor (Summer 2002)
Beautiful gardens outside, and the ch was delicious! I remember the fried calamari and frozen drinks were esp. good. I did not care much for the look of the reception room, but there was plenty of room to dance, and the food was excellent straight through the cake. Very fun wedding!
Swan Club (Late Winter/Early Spring 2003)
I mostly remember being shocked how different it was from my sister's wedding 10 years earlier...and I mean that in a good way! The food was great from CH to the end there too, but the CH room was EXTREMELY cramped, and it was impossible to get a drink. The reception room was very pretty, but the dance floor was on the small side.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I have only attended two weddings on LI. One reception was held at a fireman's hall with an outside caterer (about 10 days after September 11th- so needless to say that event was a total blur).
The other reception was aboard the Lauren Kristy, a paddlewheeler out of Bay Shore. We had a great time at this wedding even though we only knew the bride and groom. The reception was in the evening in May 2003.
The catering was done by Country Roads Catering out of Amityville -- the food was excellent.
A couple of things I was disappointed with were -- there didn't seem to be enough food at the CH (which may have been the choice of the bride and groom), but what I had was excellent. And I never got a piece of the wedding cake, because my FI were hanging out on the deck. My only other complaint was that it was bit cramped on the boat. I think the couple had probably 80 to 90 guests. Regardless, we really enjoyed ourselves. The staff of the caterer and the boat were great!

I went to a Sat. night wedding at the Harrison House in May.
The place itself is elegant and tastefully decorated (not my style, but very nice). I had two problems with this place -- the way the reception room is set up, the dance floor is at one end of the room, and all the tables were at the other. You couldn't see the dance floor at all.
Second, the portions were extremely small. The salad course was one small tomato stuffed with a few leaves (not lettuce, I don't know what kind of leaf it was, looked like it came off of a bush)! Next course was shrimp, and that's fine if you like shrimp, which I don't. Needless to say, I was starving by the time the prime rib arrived. The steak was about the size of a post-it! When I go to a wedding, I expect to roll outta there!! LOL!! I hate leaving a wedding hungry, and running to Mickey Dees.
I went to a wedding on May, 1989 at the Huntington Townhouse (my brother's wedding). Beautiful interior (if slightly gaudy, but who am I kidding? I'm getting married at Villas!! LOL!! The more ornate, the more I love it!) Beautiful staircase to take pictures. The food was really good, too.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Great thread! I hope I don't offend anyone, but I've been paying close attention at the weddings I've attended over the past few years, so I've developed very specific likes and dislikes. I've been to more weddings in the past few years than I could possibly recall, but here goes:
Lands End (Saturday afternoon, May 2003 and Sunday evening, August 2002): By far the best location I've ever been to. The Saturday afternoon reception was in poor weather, but for water lovers like my FH and myself - it was perfect. The food, setting, service - everything was perfect. Both wedddings were on the moderate size - somewhere below 200 people. It was my first choice, if the South Shore were more realistic for me!
Harbor Club (Saturday evening, April 2002): Not my taste for decor, but it was OK. The room was small, and the C-Tail hour was outside - we froze! I don't recall the food, so I guess it was OK.
Villa Lombardi's (Sunday evening, November 2002): C-Hour was in a very large room, which made for a pleasant time. The reception was beautiful, as was the food and bar service.
Fox Hollow (Friday evening, March 2002): Really like the room that the C-hour was held in - it was roomy and very 'interesting'. Didn't like the fact that we were downstairs for the reception, plu the room was kind of tight. Food was ok.
Watermill (Sunday evening, May 2003): C-tail hour presentation was very creative, and the food was great! Service was wonderful - but the decor wasn't my style - also, didn't like being downstairs for the reception.
Also been to the Huntington Townhouse, Jericho Terrace, Westbury Gardens and some in NJ - but can't recall specific opinions as to the details!
Going to another wedding at the Watermill next week, so I'll let you know what I learn!
Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Larkfield Manor - 9/04 - Nice cocktail hour, the food was delicious and alot of choices too but there werent enough seats though for all the guests at the CH. The reception room was beautiful but a little crowded, maybe the bride and groom invited more people after they booked the room? The dinner was fanastic and the servers were friendly. The one thing I didnt like it took a bartender 30 mintues to find a bottle or chamagne and open it. A lot of extra little things happened that I would have never known if my FH wasnt friends with the groom. Overall though it was a very nice wedding.
