I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much
Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed. Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well. Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....
So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
This is a great thread. Okay, I haven't been to to many weddings out on the Island, but I just went to one at Crest Hollow. 1. I was surprised that the cocktail hour really didn't have much food. I'm not sure if that was the chosen that way, but It was really strange to me. Usually Cocktail hour is a ton of food, but they only had three tables set up one table was all cold stuff such as veggies, dip, bread, mozarella, tomatoes, antipasta, fruit (nothing to mouth watering for a night time wedding) Then they had One carving station with two pieces of meet the size of my two hands (very small) then they had two pasta selections, one thing (buffet bowl)of clams, one thing of calamari, one, thing of eggplant, one thing of ribs. Then they passed a few hot appetizers around such as quiche, fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, skewers. To me that wasn't much food for 200 guests, the cocktail hour was kinda small, not enough chairs I think. The service was fine, but a lot of the servers wasn't really sure when asked what the dish was. The dinner entrees were okay at best, I had the salmon which was dry and bland.
2. The best thing that I really enjoyed was the dessert, they decided to have the full dessert buffet selection which was fun because they had a lot of choices and I guess people werent really full from the other food, so it was good.
3. Other than that they were fine, we had a table in the back and it was kinda weird because during a slow song or speech at the wedding I was in, I could here dance music from another wedding in another room, maybe it was because we were closer to the door, I'm sure the Bride and Groom didn't hear.

Mediterranean Manor
I went to a wedding there on November 20th 2004 it was evening wedding . The bride had the ceremony there the food was not good at all. We were standing for the cocktail hour if you are having more than 150 please don't have it there. There were no seats available for my husband and my self at the cocktail hour. I didn't like the set up at all the guest was face in the back of the bridal party we had to turn around to see them make a toast. I thought that was rude, and there was not enough food for the cocktail hour. Reception food had no taste to it.

I went as a maid of honor to The Miller Place Inn. The food at the cocktail hour was good. The bridal attendant was good. Matre D sucked. Dinner was good and so was the service. The place was pretty.
My wedding was at The Estate at Eastwind Caterers. AMAZING! The food was delicious, service impeccable. I loved my Matre D. I had nothing to worry about. My guests are still raving about it!

Went to a wedding in May 2004 at Vineyard Caterers.... the place was amazing. They had the ceremony outside, which was beautiful and very romantic. The food for both the cocktail hour and reception was great.
They also did wine corks with placecards stuck inside of the corks to go along with the theme and gave wine bottles in a cute metal bucket for the favor. Everything was wonderful. The only problem we had is our waiter did not inquire about drinks often, but there were two bartenders, so it was fine.
We loved the couple and bridal party coming down the stairs, it was absolutely beautiful!!

Capt. Bills- Friday, Oct. 2003 Wow, this was such a great wedding! I fell in love with the simple beauty of this place. It is not overdone and tacky like alot of other halls on LI. Food was great, drinks flowed all night!
Jericho Terrace- Friday, Dec. 2004 My grip is that it is too much of a factory. I felt like there were a thousand other things going on. Also anyone who smoked (all the young friends) had to go down two flights of stairs, a process that made alot of people miss half the wedding. Now I know that's a choice, but it was just too big for me. Food was good and CH room was beautiful

MILLERIDGE (Carriage House)- Saturday afternoon Brunch The ceremony was outside and it was very pretty. The food was ok, I don't really remember it that much, but I know they had a good variety (a bit different for brunch). It was a second wedding, so it wasn't too large. The service was good and the omelet station was a big hit.
WOODBURY COUNTRY CLUB - Friday night CH food was fantastic! The passed horsd'oeuvres were good, but the room was way too cramped for the waiters to get through. The line to get drinks, was way too long. The ceremony was outside and the CH was supposed to be, but it rained. The service was good otherwise. The dinner food was ok, not very impressive. The cake was not good at all.
FOX HOLLOW - Friday night We went to the resteraunt for a rehearsal dinner. The service was great and the food yummy. Very pretty decor.
WINDOWS ON THE LAKE - Saturday The view is soo pretty. Makes a great place for photos. The CH was ok, but way too crowded!! I felt like a sardine. The dinner was pretty good. The service was good too. This is the 1st place I saw the chocolate fountain. There was sooo much food at the Venetian.
CREST HOLLOW COUNTRY CLUB - Sunday Loved the french-style serving of the entree. The dinner was very good and you were able to try whatever you wanted and could get as much as you wanted. The service was good, they constantly were refolding napkins and were very accomodating. I didn't think the room was very 'pretty', but they had really beautiful flowers to dress itup some. Not sure what room they were in. My one major complaint was that you kept bumping into people form other weddings. At one point during the CH you could hear their music clearly. Plus the ceremony was upstairs then we went downstairs to the CH and then back up for the dinner, during that time another wedding was on the move. They didn't space out the parties appropriately.
CARLYLE - Friday night My cousin got married here and I loved it, very romantic feeling. The one complaint I heard from others, was it was too dark, esp during the CH. So I recommend adding more candles or some other type of lighting. It was one of the best weddings I went to. The CH was incredible, food was wonderful. The room was beautiful. Service was great - they were constantly folding your napkin and getting you drinks. I never saw so many cakes, pies, desserts at the Venetian hour. So many were never even touched!
Watermill - Saturday afternoon When we arrived it was quite chaotic and the valet was very backed up. It seemed that there were two weddings arriving at the same time. Our wedding must have been early, because when we all got there they weren't ready for us, so there were 100+ of us in the lobby waiting for at least 30 mins. Not there fault, but I felt bad for everyone and the other wedding. Once in the CH the set-up was nice, they had two long buffets, with the same food (so there wasn't waiting) and two bars in two rooms. The food was ok, we actually found it rather bland. The decor is beautiful and wonderful for pics. The reception was in their downstairs room, a little dark, but very pretty. Our table was very wobbly and slanted, I felt like my dinner was going to end up in my lap - they didn't seem to care when we complained. Dinner was ok, again not impressed. The big oak bar was very pretty.
LEONARDS - Friday night This was my own wedding (I never did a review of my own - so here you go), so I am a bit biased. The food was excellent!!! We upgraded the food at the CH and it was amazing. The seafood was soo good, I could have had that all night. So many people commented on how good the CH was and how much food there was. The dinners were good too, they gave us one of each to sample. The room was beautifully setup, they even surprised us by putting on chair covers and it looked great. I didn't really like the mobile bars and the only complaint I heard was at one point the line was long for a drink. Although there were other events going on - you would hardly know. When we got there we didn't see anyone else, not until we went upstairs for the reception. Once we were at the reception, you would have thought we had the whole place to ourselves.

Fox Hollow -October 2004 Friday Night
I found the place to be very pretty and easy to find (even in the torrential downpour). CH was downstairs....I found the food to be ok. What was great however was the bar...I think I had about four Godiva Chocolate Martinis. Had to go upstairs for the reception. Dinner food again was fair. Vienesse hour was good. Fox Hollow could improve by hiring better wait staff. I sat at the father of the bride's table and we had to wait over an hour for a drink and we never received coffee.
oh I also forgot the reception room had doors leading to an outdoor area where we were smoking (looked as though you could have had an outdoor CH)
Someone tripped and feel down the stairs when they were going to the bathroom (there were no bathrooms upstairs
Overall it was a good wedding, just nothing spectacular (except for those martinis!).

Wow - I can't believe I haven't been to this before!
Most of the weddings I've been to as of late have been out of state, but I did go to one at the
Rock Hill Country Club (Sept 2004)
It was beautiful! The food was great! Moving around the cocktail hour setup was a little tough, but not to bad. It was a beautiful night - so that helped a lot.
It was a smaller room - probably couldn't hold more than 125 or so, but it was perfect for them
The only other problem was that the lights in the ladies room went out for a while, they had candles on the toilets, and FSIL knocked it over with her dress
I'm sure that was a random occurance though...

Giorgio's sat night 2003
Great wedding overall. It was winter so we didnt get to enjoy the grouns much. Food at CH was AMAZING. Dont remember the dinner too much. Drinka were AWESOME... but avoid shots. I got a shot of VERY cheap tequila and it was just ICK. That is my only complaint.. maybe ask abou top shelf liquors?
Crest hollow country club Fri night august 2004
Ceremony was beautiful.Grounds are gorgeous Cocktail hour was outside with another wedding across the pool. There was much of a variety of food there , but it was still good. Dinner was really yummy. I had the chicken. She also had the mini vieneese hour and it was delicious.
Complaint.. bathrooms were downstairs from where we were

Russo's on the Bay (1/17/05): FH's cousin had her wedding at Russo's. The ceremony was there as well. The CH was on the early side so instead of the regular CH food, it was all breakfast foods like eggs, made to order omletes, fruits, cereal, fresh squeezed juice, etc. It was different and SO delicious. Then the reception was in the less modern style room (I dont know the name) and it was so nice! I had the chef special for dinner, it was a seafood dish with sole, shrimp, and calamari. It was so yummy!
The thing that stood out most in my mind was how wonderful the staff was from the valet parking to the people in the bathroom, they were all helpful and attentive.

Cresthollow New Years Eve 12/31/03- very unorganized million people around and we were pushed around like cattle. they had us wait in a very small room before the cocktail hour and ceremony. the ceremony was very beautiful i must say. the room for reception was very nice as well. food was good- cocktail hour was not that great (even though they had seafood and caviar) but the dinner part was nice.
Fox Hollow- Friday Night in 2002 in winter- Cocktail hour was OK- room was small but nice and there was no music playing. I wasnt super impressed - they also had the basic cheese and veggie spread . no hot items. Reception had a nice room for the amount of guests -125 i think. The steak was cooked to order and came out hot and there was wine on each table. We had alot of fun there
Glen Harbor Island Club August 2003- amazing spread of food at cocktail hour and nice view. reception was surf and turf and was delicious. they had a cigar roller and the poor bride had half her party downstairs (where the cocktail party was) in the deck smoking cigars. i thought that was so rude. i also thought the vianeese hour was nice but it was also set up downstairs and i felt terrible b/c the bride had no one dancing. the enture party stayed downstairs aftter the vieneese hour

I think the concept is wonderful and what I look for when I ask for others opinions, however I find alot of the girls can get down right nasty and vicious towards people given honest opinions because they feel it as a personal attack on what they like. I have seen quite a few brides tear apart a person for the fun of it and I think it's sad that these brides believe that the boards are here for their opinions only. I say be honest not hurtful and post what your opinion which is what it should be but be prepared to hear things you might not want to.

Hi! I'm glad so far the Watermill stuff hasn't been bad! Again, we all have different taste. My idea of great is very possibly someone else's idea of crap!
Okay. This summer I went to 2 weddings at Woodbury Country Club. BOTH were great. Nice room (the small one downstairs) Food was delicious. One couple got married outside and as they were announced hubby and wife, the fountains shot up and it was so pretty.
Recently attended a wedding at Harrison House. This place is right up my alley. Beautiful, traditional decor. The cocktail hour was in a study type of room. Complaint? Cramped room and I couldn't see the dance floor from our table. I think the bride overpacked. Other than this, beautiful.
Villa Lombardi (March 2003) I don't remember much. The food was good. Downside: I do remeber a tour of the place going on during my friend's cocktail hour and it upset her. I liked the foyer.
Stonebridge (July 2002): Outdoor cocktail was great. Food was good. I was a BM in this wedding and the service was good. We have great photos...sadly, the couple is now divorced. :(
Westbury Manor (July 1999) I didn't care for it. I know it's Scotto, but the food wasn't that memorable. The outdoor cocktail setup was beautiful, though.

I have been to two weddings recently.
Inn at Eastwind...The food was excellent. The cocktail hour was amazing. The staff was so friendy and helpful. The room was beautiful! She also had a Vienese Hour. Probably the best one I have ever seen! It was amazing how many different desserts they served.
Sunset Harbor... Coctail hour only had a few selections. They closed down the bar 20 min before we entered the reception and didn't open it back up in the reception for 30 min! Didn't like the setup of the reception room, my table, as well as a few others, was practically in the hallway. The bathrooms were messy and the food was not very appealing. Unfortunately the cake was dry as well.
