Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I have been to the Watermill many times-Once was for a wedding- January 2004. I was in the bridal party and they treated us great. We got there about 2-3 hours before CH, and they were constantly serving us food and drinks, one of the bartenders was even giving us shots while the bride and groom were taking pics. Cocktail hour was unimpressive, there wasn't much selection, and the food was ok. The room for the reception was nice, nothing spectacular, and I didn't really care for the food. It was mediocre; usual 'wedding' food.'
The other times I have been there is for the installation dinner for the Ambulance corps. CH is much bigger for this, and more impressive. The food was still just ok. The reception was in the downstairs room, which I don't really like because there are no windows, but it is kind of cool that the bar is in a separate room. They also have the vianesse table, which is always nice. I do remember seeing brides walking through during both events.
I have only been there in the winter, so I have not been able to see the grounds, although I do like the lights on the trees outside at that time of year.
Villa Lombardis- January 2003 Again for the installation dinner
CH was spectacular, I have never seen so much food that was also delicious. The reception food was also amazing. I do not really care for the decor, its very pink.
Millridge - January 2002 - I don't remember which room, but I thought it was very pretty and the food was good. Their viannese table was great.
East Wind- Many years ago. I remember thinking it was very pretty and the food was good. This was before they built the inn.
Coral House- even more years ago. I remember being very unimpressed. The ceremony was outside on the 'lake' and all I remember is cars passing by in the highway behind it.
(but I was also about 15)
This is a great thread! Its very helpful to see the guest's perspective.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Weddings I have been to in the last year or so...March-Windows on the Lake- The place was very nice..only one wedding at a time which was a plus. I thought they squeezed to many people into the main room. Food was ok. Right before dinner they brought all the big trays of food and did this assembly line thing while playing 'BE Our Guest' which turned me off!
April-Floral Terrace- Great reception! The food was excellent! They offered everyone seconds and my mom took home a complete meal.
I thought it was very dark and I didn't like that the dance floor is raised. You couldn't see the people on the other side...which I guess could be good if you didn;t want to see them
I thought it was one of the best weddings that I have been to though!
July-North Ritz Club- Now the last time I had been there it was Villa Victor which you can't even compare to the NRC! The place was absolutely beautiful and classy! The food is another story...my FI and I were not impressed with it. If you want more details FM me. I had some issues with CH and stuff...please FM and I will tell you.

WOTL- Saturday night in MarchFT- Saturday day in April
NRC- Sunday night in JUly
I hope no one takes offense to my opinions they are nit picky things.
I am sure people will say things about the Swan Club when I get married too!
Any of these places would be great to have a wedding...it depends on what you are looking for.
Sorry if I offended anyone or made anyone nervous...that was not my intent..just being honest!

I went to a wedding at Coral House in May 2003. The CH was nice and the food was good. It was outside and comfortable. The reception was ok. The food was HORRIBLE. No one at my table finished the food. My food (chicken) was actually cold. The wait staff were good and attentive. However, there was another wedding going on and the guests crashed the wedding we were at.The grounds were beautiful and great for pics!
Westbury Manor- Feb. 2004- only good things to say about it! Food was great, staff was great!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I went to a wedding at the Fox Hollow two weeks ago (a Saturday night). I have to say, I wasn't as impressed as I expected to be. I've heard lots of great stuff about it, but it all seemed kinda standard to me. The cocktail hour didn't have any hot food, and the room was either too small or the tables were too big--they were regular dinner tables that seat 10-12, and they filled the whole room so it felt like a cafeteria. Also the room was right off the main hallway and it was FREEZING--I assume from people coming in and out of the front door and letting in the cold. But it felt like there wasn't even any heat on, in January. That's also where the bathrooms were so I had to keep putting on DH's jacket every time I went to the bathroom. The reception room was better, with a nice dance floor and the bridal suite was right off that room so at least the bridal party didn't have to deal with the cold. They had two bars set up so there weren't any lines, which was good. The food was great. The drinks were kinda weak. Our waitress kept forgetting our drink orders and bringing us the wrong stuff, but other than that the service was good.
There was another wedding going on, and the bathrooms and hallway were shared, so that was a little weird--you'd step out of one wedding and hear the music from the other one.
It's a pretty place, definitely. And the wedding was really nice. I think I just expected a lot more because I know so many people who rave about it.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I havent been to many weddings but I did go to:Millridge carriage house- a friend of mine got married here last January, it was just a small reception, for they had previously eloped.. it was more like a sit down dinner..no Dj or anything.... The food was AWESOME, they had some cinnamin bread that was out of this world, and the filet mignon and penne alla vodka was some of the best I have ever had.. Even FH raves about the food, and he is a PITA
I also use to work as a receptionist for Windows on the Lake/ Beach Club Estate
Never been to an affair here, but the cook made my lunch everyday, and it was VERY yummy....I think that lake is gorgeous, and the inside is pretty as well...someone commented on the 'musty' smell a few posts ago... I do agree...but I remember when I worked there two years ago, the employees would smoke inside...that may have changed in light of all the new smoking laws...
I have never eaten anything from the Beach Club.. I assume since they are affiliated with each other the food tastes very similar... the CH room is ok, the bowling alley in it... i dunno what thats used for... the outside cermony area is very pretty, and reception hall is nice as well... the only thing is... the rent out the upstairs(which is an apt) to a family, i thought that was a little tacky...

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
in the 6-ish years that FH and i have been together, we've been to 23 weddings.here's a highlight reel:::
the best one:
out east at bride's brother's house--was in july. they set up a huge tent on the side of his lawn, they had a ceremony arch in the yard, they had port-a-potties, and a wooden dance floor on the grass. it was buffet style-food. they played broadway songs during dinner. instead of speeches, the entire bridal party sang a song to the bride and groom. it was a song from 'grease'
it was an awesome time! it was perfect celebration for this bride and groom.
most beautiful wedding with ceremony on-site: Carlyle on the park--it was like being on a movie set. it was gorgeous. it was in August. absolutely breathtaking.
best food:
August 2004. Villa lombardis. Saturday night wedding. YUUUUUMMMM
weirdest noise during outside ceremony:
1999. saturday
best picts from a wedding:
My sisters wedding at Land's end. September of 1999. Sunday of Labor Day. mother nature was on our side with beautiful weather. Photographers were JO VON. Pictures were fun to take and came out stunning.
best viennesse hour:
in brooklyn. the name escapes me right now. it was a tremendous italian wedding the biggest centerpeices i'd ever seen place was called 'El' something. but the viennesse hour was a spectacular extravaganza. fireworks, tables and tables of goodies and desserts. MADDONE!
weirdest decorations:
huntington townhouse. 2004. friday after thanskgiving. big inflatable santas and xmas bears. Not my style. Was a little too over the top for me, but bride and groom loved it. i was in the bridal party and the bridal suite was a small room
wrong sized room for big wedding:
Fox Hollow. Saturday night. it was July of 2000. 250 guests. we were crammed in a room that was steaming hot. Saturday night.
we've also been to weddings at east wind, watermill, chateau briand, crest hollow, larkfield manor, brentwood country club, verdis, floral terrace, the fountainhead, and many many more.
All have been nice--it depends on what your vision is for your day.
we're still looking for a place, so i think this is a really helpful thread!!
Has anyone been to the Metropolitan in glen cove? i'd love to hear about that place....

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
i forgot one of our faves!Saturday 2004. October. cold Spring Harbor Country club. beautiful interior. big psce for cocktail hour--the only negative would be that people sat on the bar stools for the bar and it took a long time to get a drink. Also the table with food was in a weird spot against the windows--didnt let traffic flow through. Once we went upstairs to the party room it was FANTASTIC! i had no idea how much per/person this place was, but we had such a great time i looked at with my mom <$170/person>
Needless to say, my friend got her money's worth--big room, big dancefloor, VERY Attentive staff. great live music

This sounds like El Caribe - that place gets nothing but raves, apparently pricey, but worth it!

East Wind Country Gardens- nice grounds for pics..beautiful landscaping. Ceremony was outside, and all you could hear was traffic as the bride and groom exchanged vows. I felt so bad...Cocktail hour room and ballroom are in two different buildings so you have to walk across a parking lot.
Food at the cocktail hour was great, loved the outside patio area.
Reception room has a set up that forces you to walk across the dance floor to go to the bar or use the bathroom. Dinner was great, they offered us seconds. DH's dinner was spilled into his lap by the server (this can happen anywhere though). East wind paid for the dry cleaning.
Fox Hollow (small day wedding) Ceremony outside (off parking lot) again, could hear cars driving by. Cocktail hour was small, but there was a nice variety of food. Reception was nice, good choices in food. Service was better than the last fox hollow wedding I went to.
The Inn at Eastwind-this place is huge. Cocktail hour was nice. There was a nice selection of food choices and plenty of seating area. I felt like the room lacked decor though. Nobody used the outside patio, and it was a summer day. The door wasnt opened at all. It would have been nice to go outside. The ballroom is nice. Bride and groom sit on a stage on the edge of the dance floor, so you have to walk across the floor to greet them. Bar was on the side of the room, servers did not really offer us drinks so we had to walk across a lot to get drinks. Food was delicious, and again we were offered seconds which is a nice touch.
Land's End-Picture perfect setting. This place allows you to take the most incredible pictures. It is gorgeous. We had the cocktail hour outside. We were constantly offered a variety of frozen drinks and champagne. LOVELY! I was disappointed with the amount of food at the cocktail hour. I had my wedding at FF which offers a similar menu and I remember having a lot more food. I actually left the cocktail hour hungry...Ballroom is gorgeous. Servers were fantastic, kept bringing me full glasses of champane all night! Dinner was so delicious. Truly and elegant affair.
Meadow club-ok this was a really big wedding at the meadow club. The cocktail hour room was soooo tight. Food was good, but could hardly move around to get any. Bathroom was located downstairs which was not conveinent. Ballroom was night, but again overcrowded. I noticed that an engaged couple was getting a tour of the meadow club during my friends reception...I did not like this at all! Dance floor was a good size, we had a great time.
Terrace on the Park: Loved having the cocktail hour on the patio overlooking queens and shea stadium. Great food at the cocktail hour, plenty of drinks. Reception room was a nice size, however you did feel the floor vibrate from time to time. Servers did not bring us drinks really, so we had to get up a lot. Dinner was yummy.

THE ESTATE AT EAST WIND- I went to a wedding there after we booked it...I made sure I payed attention to every detail...The food was amazing!!!!!!! The service was awesome!!! The bathrooms are soooo clean and smelled soooo good!!!! It was decorated for Christmas when we went and it was absolutely breathtaking!!! 2 bartenders for the whole reception which was a big thing for me...I don't want my guests to have to wait on long lines for drinks like I have done at other weddings when there was only one bartender...Plenty of waiters and waitresses...In my opinion, East Wind is such a magical place!!!!

Swan Club
Sat. afternoon August, 2003
I was not impressed with them at all. The rooms were nice. The garden is beautiful. The cocktail hour was outside. It was ok. I think that had more to do with the food that the B & G picked. The dinner itself was partially chilly when it shouldn't have been. We were in a smaller split level garden room and I noticed gnats flying inside. That totally turned me off. Then, when the dj finished playing the last song, the crew was inside vacuuming and taking tables away before anybody could get out. They scheduled the parties so close together that there were people outside waiting to get in the room as we were leaving and the crew were cleaning up (and I mean like 30-35 people).
I had the same experience last July for a Sunday wedding. The grounds were absolutely breathtaking, but the other weddings and the cleaning up within seconds of the last dance turned me off, but maybe they do that everywhere.
I went to a wedding at the Thatched Cottage in June 04 - Friday night.
The service was PHENOMENAL! our waitor came outside to the 'smoking area' to refill our drinks. He was amazing! The ground were beautiful, and the inside was quit lovely too. Everything seemed to go off very well and the B&G had a great time, which is really what it's all about anyway :)
