Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
I've been to a LOT in the past couple of years!!Russo's - Nov 99 - Fri night - more food then I've ever seen!!! Dinner was not served until after 11 though!!
Floral Terrace - Feb 2000 - Sun Night - Don't remember much - I know I liked the CH.
Sand's Atlantic - July 2002 - Sat night - CH is incredible there - lots of themed stations. Dinner is fine but CH is much better - great Viennese hour.
GW Manor - August 2002 - Sat afternoon - CH was bad - there were so many people packed in this room that no one could move - you couldn't get to the bar or any of the stations - much more comfortable when we moved upstairs - room is beautiful
Feb 2003 - Temple in RVC - great CH - really cool rooms
July and Oct 2003 - Woodbury CC - great CH - great themed stations
Jericho Terrace - July 2003 - Sat pm - wasn't thrilled - CH was too long, tons of people smoking in halls so when you would leave the room you get walloped with smoke, waiters did not bring drinks
Country House - Stony Brook July 2003 - sat - night- by far the best and most abundant food I've ever had at a wedding - fantastic wedding on all accounts
Chateau Briand - Feb 2004 - sun night - i liked the food but the waiters took our plates away before we were done - also we were in Normandy room and bars are 'in' the wall - VERY long lines
As you can see - I am wedding-ed out

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
My best friend just got married at the Thatched Cottage on Juy 4th. The wedding was absolutely amazing!!!
The food was delicious - I got the duck with the raspberry sauce, which I thought was a very unique choice that really stood out on the list of entrees. The ceremony and cocktail hour was held outside, right on the water. It was beautiful. And, the ballroom is so pretty - there is this one wall that is made up of windows, and you look out onto the water!! Also, the other great thing was the dessert carts that were wheeled onto the dance floor, complete with the wedding cake plus all sorts of other delicious dessert options such as rice pudding, jello, and chocolate covered strawberries.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?
Backyard wedding last August - bride's parents have a beautiful home and grounds. The tents were spectacular. There were chefs at these huge grills. The food was ok, but I don't even remember what I ate. The port a potties were lined up along a winding path lighted by lots of tiki torches. I felt like I was at summer camp for grownups. The only downside, MOB had to keep handing out sweaters and jackets. It was a very relaxed wedding, not something I have in mind though.September 2003 - Thatched Cottage. Friend's wedding was great. Food was unbelievable. Waitresses were very nice and filled drinks before they were even empty. They didn't even ask what you were drinking. Very impressed. Beautiful grounds. Even the cake was good.
Going to Metropolitan next month. Will let you know.

I went to a wedding last night at Leonard's (the same place I am getting married next April). It was perfect. The food was fantastc, the service was impecible.
My two complaints:
1) a late sunday evening reception has got to be the worst. Dinner wasn't served until 9:30, guests had to leave before the garter, bouquet toss, and cutting of the cake because they had to go to work today. I didn't get a chance leave until 11:15, and we didn't even get a piece of the wedding cake. I think if you're going to do a late night wedding, make it Friday or Saturday night, when most people don't have to go to work the morning.
2) the DJ, MRG entertainment was fantastic. The MC was very involved with the crowd, they gave out lots of stuff and were very attentive to the bride and groom. But whomever the couple had at the cocktail our was horrible. He was playing an organ they sell at Radio Shack. It was way too loud and the music sounded very bad.
Other than that, it was a fantastic event. It was fun and exciting to go to my very first wedding. I was amazzed that not only did they have their reception at the same place we are having ours, but the BM dresses were the same color. So now I am changing my color scheme a bit. Since the same people will be at our wedding, I feel kind of strange having the same of everything.
Now I am going to sit at my desk and take a nap.

My parent's went to a wedding this weekend at the Jericho Terrace. I told them to look at everything for do's and don'ts. My mom even took a lot of pics for me. She was so into it![]()
Here are their suggestions for Jericho Terrace brides: (keep in mind these are my parent's views)
Make sure the soda is a popular brand - my parent's said the soda was a no name brand and was awful.
Make sure they use bottled water on the tables - the whole table said the water tasted musty
See if you can get a white cloth for the bread - they had green and it went with nothing.
See if you can get matching chairs - they had flowered chairs with gold trim which went with nothing
See if you can get the Jericho Terrace cover off the butter and get a plain cover
See if you can have more then one bar open or if you can have servers get drinks for you - they had 235 people and only one bar which was not enough
Again these are just my parent's views and I told them to be honest and critical.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
This is a good post but keep in mind: everyone has a different opinion and the budget of the reception. For example, I see everyone giving great reviews for Villa Lombardi, now I just went there for the first time in April and was not impressed at all. There were not a lot of choices for cocktail hour; the bar line during cocktail hour was so long!; dinner choices were not that good and the cake was so so.Here is a list of places I have been:
my wedding Larkfield Manor (Nov 2003)
Coral House (2 times around April 1998 and October 2000)
Swan Club (2 times both in July and Sept 1999)
Miller Place Inn (2 times both back in the early 1990's and next month)
Thatched Cottage (June 1995)
Medeterian Manor (July 1996 and April 1998)
Meadow Club (August 2002)
George Washington Manor (August 2000?)
Westbury Manor (Oct 2001)
Villa Lombardi (April 2004)
Windows on the Lake (Feb 2004)
on a boat out of New Jersey -sorry can't remember the name (May 2003)
Old Field Inn (Sept 2003)
West Lake Inn (Nov 2003)
We will be going to the Watermill in December.
Sorry I am not giving a review but as you can see I have been to a lot of weddings!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
Tracy,Sure everyone has different opinions and different perceptions as well. What one person finds nice, the other person might not. I thought it'd be still nice for others to hear the reviews from a guest point of view. And the future bride can probably address or handle these issues and made sure it doesn't happen at her wedding, if there are any issues. It's to be used as a point of information. I never been to a wedding at Villa Lombardi's but I went to see the place. The menu was pretty long for the CH and for the reception you get 7 entrees which I think was pretty good but the place is not my taste or my FH's taste so we decided not to book there. But that's our opinion but other people might find to be exactly what they are looking for and then that's really nice for them if that's what they want. I went to 7 weddings last year alone and this year, I've already been to 3 weddings and another coming up at the end of July and another in September. So when you go to these affairs, you find things you like and things that you do not necessarily like. It's just Life and it's a personal preference. I went to a wedding to where you got married and I loved the food. I went to see the place when I was looking for the catering place but I did not like the layout of the big room and other things I noticed so I didn't book there. I feel that every place has its magic for the bride that books it. So this is just from a guest point of view to help us all. So that what one guest see and not like, we can avoid to happen at our wedding just for bringing it up with the vendor and making sure it doesn't happen at our wedding.
Keep the reviews coming Please !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
This is why I said keep in mind the budget that the B&G had. The wedding I was referencing is a very young cousin of mine, and they have no money and neither does her parents. They wanted a nice wedding (which they got because the hall is beautiful!!!) but not a large budget.I'm glad to see that this post is not creating drama and fighting!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I went to a wedding at the Woodbury JC in April. It was very nice, the food was very good, desserts were beautiful. We had a great time, but the main course to me was a bit tasteless. When we arrived we had to wait a half hour in the entranceway. No food or drinks unless you shoved through the crowd to the very furthest corner - and even then, just s small dry muffin and a glass of OJ. It was 11am and I could have used a cup-a-joe!!!
Not much there in the way of grounds. And for MY taste, the rooms were a bit too glitzy -- but that is just MHO.
I was married in '94 at George Washington Manor and everyone still tells me how wonderful it was.
We're going to Oheka this Friday so I will be sure to review.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I went to a wedding at the Fox Hollow last weekend and it was wonderful! It was an afternoon wedding, and they had the cocktail hour outside. The setup was so beautiful, although FH and I were a little late arriving, so by the time we said our hellos we had to go inside to the ballroom. The pasta was great, and so was my salmon!!! FH had the filet mignon, which he said was tasty. I didn't try the cake but it was really pretty. Also, the Viennese hour was INCREDIBLE. I loved the way they rolled it onto the dance floor. Everyone LOVED it!!! I highly recommend it to anyone having their wedding there! One thing that another guest noted: The staff started vaccuuming the room before the guests and bride & groom had said all of their goodbyes. It was an afternoon wedding, but still! All in all, we had a great time!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)
I just went to the Bridgeview Yacht Club. The reception was beautiful. They got married there too and the only thing that I think put a damper on the ceremony were the planes flying above. You could also see them walk across the bar area outside before they walked down the isle. The food was good and the atmosphere was sophisticated. It was a great time.

Wow!! Only a few posts of Lessing's catering facilities!! Anyone else ever been to West Sayville Country Club? Only one of you out there???I know the layout of the room is odd, but we liked that because we have an older crowd coming and we didn't want to have our guests shouting to each other to talk.
But this has been a great thread!! Thanks ladies!!!!
