Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Original post by FrescaBride

I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much

Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed.
Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well.
Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....

So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Was in a Wedding last week at Windows on the lake. The food was good. The wedding cake was really good. The service was ok. It was a day wedding. In the dining room you could see the other bride taking her photos. she had a really nice dress And before the wedding was over they took all of our stuff out of the bridal suite without telling us and locked it in a storage closet.... It was a little wierd. But I liked the wedding and my friend looked great.

I went to
FLowerfield- (oct 04) very pretty...the food was excellent. CH was amazing!

Watemill(Dec 04)-we arrived late to CH..the presentation of the CH was very impressive.
The main course was very good and the service was good

Fox Hollow(dec 04)- I loved the CH very pretty. I didn't realize there where so many rooms ( i got lost ) Viennese hour was amazing. I had sambuca shots in a chocolate shot glass....yummy. Huge dance floor..great size...beautiful place!

Last weekend I went to a wedding at Giorgios and though weather was not nice to the B&G so they had to have their ceremony inside, the place was GORGEOUS and all staff was very attentive to all the guests.
Have to admit, It did make me a little jealous b/c mine is in two years it was still beautiful.

went to a wedding at john anthonys/venitian yacht club last night!

wedding was a lot of fun, they had a dj- i dont know the name but i can find out if anyone wants...

the views are amazing! I had such a great time, but there were some things I thought were not 'perfect' in my opinion...

first, the cocktail hour room was upstairs- view again, soooo pretty, but NOT enough sesting for all guests....not even half- wedding was about 215 people... people were standing everywhere eating, and wanted a seat.

cocktail hour was on the smaller side with food- not as many choices as i am used to with LI weddings, BUT what was there was good... mind you we were starving, fh loved their calamari, and i thought the broccoli rabe with canneloni (SP) was really good...

not a lot of seafood-only one paella dish-which was good- but i know the bride and groom hate seafood-

the reception room was downstairs- in what i believe is the bigger room

all the chair covers (idont know if she got them or they were there) bothered me... they were so pretty- BUT two in the room were white while all the rest were a goldish ivory... WHY? i dont know , but i noticed it right away..

salad course was ceasar- it was good
next was penne ala vodka- it was good- didnt eat a lot of it though i was full with pasta since the cocktail hour had two choices of pasta.. few people said it was just ok- but two friends at the table who come from very italian- parents born there- ate it , so thats a good sign

the i had salmon for dinner
fh had prime rib
and the other choice was a chicken dish-
it was OK again i was full- prime rib fh said was a bit greasy th i dont know what that means- i dont eat it, but thats what he said...the dinner entrees were not the best i have had at a catering hall

cake they bought at a bakery- not from JA and it looked great but it was not so tasty

they had ice cresm- barely anyone ate it
and cookie tray and fruit tray on table...that was good

staff was nice- our waitress was great- her name was Gina.
there was a guy waiter there, we passed the wine around... well he was hilariious- but a smart a$$ with everyone... his humor was fine once i was a bit tipsy- but before it was too much- at one point i was going to the dance floor- he was in the way but i waited til he was done, he moved away and said you better go now, im not waiting too much longer i have a job to do. with a rude tone.. he was kidding around BUT he did that kind of thing with guests who didnt find him so funny- our table got a kick out of him though...most of the time...

the room decor downstairs was really nice- it was nice to walk outside look ast the view and take some really pictures

the bar was to the side almost in a different room but not really- it was fine though our table was right next to it

the waitress always brought us drinks too- she was on top of our table...in a good way

so to sum it up - wedding was great so much fun!!!! BUT the , the wedding was still awesome..so the fact is, that yes the food has to be decent but thats not what makes the party- !

ANy other questions fm me

Went to a wedding at the Watermill last night...it was absolutely wonderful!! Food was great, service was great too. I was a BM and the bridal attendant was so attentive she kept the drinks and the food coming all night for us.

The CH was really good too. It was outside and honestly I totally forgot that the watermill is on a major road. You never heard any traffic or saw the cars through the bushes.

It was an awesome wedding

I was in a wedding at the Vineyards (December 2004) The place was very nice but much of the beauty was lost because it was December. I have heard from many that they do awesome weddings but I was not pleased this time.....There was no one to direct the guests and the bride never saw her bridal attendent. I was nto pleased with the quality of the cocktail hour food and the presentation of it. the dinner was delicious though.

Villa Lombardi's (April 2004) The cocktail hour food was very good and so was most of the dinner food. The staff was helpful as well. The one thing I did not like was that they had more than one affair going on and one wedding was leaving as we were entering.

Flowerfield's(September 2004)Awesome...the food was amazing all around! The scenery..beautiful . The staff was incredibal as well. The only downfall was the Valet Parking was a bit slow.

TimberPoint: (6/05) Sunday evening wedding - it was ok. I felt like at the CH there was very little food - really only 2 tables. Once we were seated, there was only salad and the entree. The food was good, but there was certainly not enough of it....when I think of a wedding I think HOLY FOOD!!! Not here....however, that could have been the package that the bride and groom chose. The cake was no good either. The atmosphere is nice, but people preferred to be outside all night as opposed to inside dancing. I think that was bc the DJ wasn't very good though.

Went to a wedding at Tall Grass County Club (Lessings). It was raining so the CH was inside. Even though the wedding was small (60 people) we didn't even have room to stand in the room where the CH was. We ended up hanging out in the hall outside the CH. I'm sure if it was nice out it would have been roomier because they have tents and outside spaces set up that weren't used. The food was very good - but only salad and main course then cake. I guess that is what the B&G chose. The dj was great - everyone was dancing all night - dance floor was kind of small but for this many people it worked. If there were more I think it would have been noticeably small. Overall, great wedding - great music, great food, just not enough CH room.

My BIL was married at Snuff Mill on the grounds of the Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. Given that the caterer has a good reputation, the food was REALLY disappointing. The CH had very little food and although some of the passed horsduerves were tasty, they were teeny-weeny. And the others just weren't very good.
The B&G wanted a small wedding and they certainly got it. The actual hall is very tight and slightly akward in it's set up. It used to be a tobaco mill, so they walls are white painted brick. I overheard many people say it looked like a barn. The room was so small that there wasn't even a bar. They had the bar outdoors, right next to the valet parking. Had it rained I don't know where they would have put it. Considering the bar was so inconvenient to reach, you would have thought the waiters would be on point with taking drink orders, but we were only asked ONCE during the entire recption if we needed something. Many of us missed half of the wedding because we were outside at the bar.

Curious if any one has been to King Louis XVI? Or The View on the Hudson in Rockland County (my 2nd choice)?

North Ritz Club June 2005

This was one of the best weddings I have been too... The food was amazing during cocktail hour, I didn't eat much of my meal b/c my FH kept digging into my plate, but from what I remember the main course was excellent too... I love they have the baby carrots with the greens... The little things that I enjoy... OK moving on... The place is very pretty, but the Viennese was INSANE!!! There was soooooooo many different kinds of desserts that no one knew where to start... One thing that I that was a great idea, the bride and groom bought 'to go containers' you know those Styrofoam containers at COSCO, and since there was so much food at the Viennese, every one was able to take as much as they wanted home... MY FH LOVED LOVED LOVED THAT!

Whoever is planning on a wedding there, will have an amazing time!

Anyone been to a wedding at the Harrison House??? I need reviews... Thanks!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

company holiday partys at...
Westbury Manor - Loved it each year!!! Great food and service.
Russo's on the bay - Not my style but food was great, even with 12 things on the menu by the third year nothing sounds good.
Oheka - this year - can't wait!!!!

2003 weddings
Hamlet windwatch
Had a hard time finding the place, went to the hotel first. Food was great, just didn't like the CH room (too small) which then turned into part of the reception room.

Chateau Briand
Everything was wonderful!!! Not my taste but wonderful! So much food!!! It was a huge wedding, 400 people!!!

2004 Weddings
Lands End
Nice amount of food, really pretty

Harrison House afternoon wedding.
didn't like it at all - which I feel really bad about since I know they paid a lot of money.
The food was great, service was horrible. I didn't like the way the room was set up.
They did have champagne to make Mimosa with :(

I have 6 weddings this year (2005)....

The first two were 4th of july weekend
The Vinyards
The first was Friday Night at the Vinyards -
CH was out on the deck (very humid evening, bad hair day for me) Nice amount of food at both the CH and Dinner - Sevice was great - beautiful landscaping!!! Everyone kept going outside onto the deck during the reception, to the Bar (not sure where the inside bar was)

Smithtown Landing
The second was Smithtown Landing, Sunday night. A little difficult figuring out with building where we needed to be. Food was good and so was the service - my only problem was the way the DJ was set up verse the tables. They had two video screens which they had baby pictures on and then photos of the guest as the night went on. You had to be on the dance floor to see the screens.

Timberpoint CC
August 2005 Timberpoint C.C., Saturday during the day - really cool location - I like the room, very pretty - not a lot of food at the CH only a fruit/veggie table and a seafood table (raw clams, oysters) and some passed food.
dinner was buffet, I don't have a problem with that expect two different groups of tables and two different lines for the food. It would of been better if they only had one line or the same food at both sets of tables

Lombardi's on the sound - PJCC
September 2005 - Monday Night
all I can say is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a great place!!! CH had so much food!!! dinner was 7 choices!!!

chateau Lamer June 2001-(saturday night) Beautiful. Service was wonderful, and the room has a gorgeous view. I don't remember the food too much.

SandCastle(saturday afternoon May 2001) i loved. it was one of the best weddings i've ever been to. The food was amazing, and the hall is beautiful.

Coral House.(saturday afternoon October 2003) The main ballroom is gorgeous, but i didn't like that there were so many weddings going on. I saw so many brides that day. The ceremony was too cramped. the ailse was too short. overall didn't really like it.

16 pages! This thread is awesome! Here's my two cents:

George Washington Manor (July 2004- Friday Night): Loved the room. It has these beautiful windows and it just feels elegant. The food was great. The cake was just ok (taste-wise) but no sure if they got it there or else where. I wanted to have my wedding here but we had too many people. I think they'll have up to 150 but i wouldn't go above 125. The cocktail hour was a little cramped. I do love it there though.

Crest Hollow (Oct 2002, Saturday night): Food was great and a lot of it. The cocktail hour was amazing. My one complaint was that it was October so it go dark earlier and we were eating outside for the cocktail hour in the dark. The room was nice but a little more glitzy than I like.

Watermill (Oct 2003, Sunday afternoon). Everyone raves about the Watermill but I wasn't that impressed. The cocktail hour was very good but the reception was in a basement room- so was the ceremony. I like windows. But I have to say- the dessert was amazing! They wheeled eight or nine carts full of different desserts onto the dance floor and it was mind blowing.

I went to a wedding at East Winds in Wading River (I think that's the town). It was in July last year. The outside ceremony was beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the entire set up was great, tons of flowers around in the garden. They served light snacks for early guests wating for the pictures to be finished and the cemeromy to begin, which was really nice. Cocktail hour was really nice and dinner was great.
