Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I went to a wedding at the Vineyard Caterers. Unfortunately, I missed the cocktail hour (because it was a Friday night wedding and I got stuck in Hamptons traffic ) so I can't comment on the food. However, the place is BEAUTIFUL! I really was impressed by the grounds and the hall itself. I had the steak which was delicious!!! FH had the chicken, which he loved, too!

One thing they did which I thought was really nice was that they went around after dinner and asked everyone if they wanted seconds.

The only thing that bothered me was that there wasn't a bar in the main room. I guess because most of the guys (FH included) were really into drinking and crowded around the bar outside the entire time!

But, the wedding was amazing! Anyone getting married there will not be disappointed!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Went to a wedding to Captain Bills on a Saturday this October. The wedding was at 1pm.
We had such a great time. The couple had already gotten married in Vegas so they only were having a reception here. The atmosphere was really nice and the weather was beautiful so everyone was able to go outside as well. The reception was layback and it was so much fun that way. There were no seating arrangements…everyone sat where they liked. The food was buffet style. The Cocktail Hour had the usual spreads and the Hordvres(spelling?) with the waitstaff walking around. ..I heard from my husband that the oysters were really good. I don’t eat raw oysters but he does…
Also, the waitstaff removed the plates promptly and folded the napkins if you were not seating at your table at that moment.
The centerpiece was very pretty and it was in a basket. It had different colors all reflecting the fall season.
This was the first wedding that I went during the day and I had such a great time. All of the weddings that I’ve gone, they all have been at night.
The bride did not get too caught up in details yet her wedding was really elegant and beautiful.
And Captain Bills really did a great job.
If you are getting married there, I believe your guests will really enjoy themselves.

Villa Lombardi's- Sunday night , April 6, 2003
For some reason, I was not as impressed with the food on this night at VL. The pasta course smelled so foul that no one at my table ate it. My brother was the one who realized that the smell was the mix of basil and onion in the sauce. A few of us with weak stomachs almost got sick because it smelled like vomit. The service was nice, though, so we were okay with the rest of the evening

Thats weird... in the past i have heard only great things about Villa Lombardi's but recently know people that have bene there in the past year and said the food was NOT as good as the past

Oh no I hope this is not true!!!

I will be there the end of November so I guess I will find out!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Oheka Castle - I went ot Oheka for a Sunday night wedding. The service was excellent. The food was very good. I am a dessert freak and was a little dissapointed with the viennese and cake. The room was very beautiful - a nice size - not too big not too small and the cocktail hour room was very nice. I love the huge bar - which was in a seperate room. I'm not particularly a fan of having the bar in one room because everyone was in that room the entire night but if you like a more laid back atmosphere then that's exactly what this was. You are seperated into 3 rooms at cocktail hour. Overall it was a beautiful place, great service and good food.

I think this is SUCH a great idea!! Hey so many ladies are looking and not posting! come one ladies we all know you have been to at least 1 wedding in the last 6 months - 1 year. Unfortunatly I have only been to one wedding in the last year and that was in NJ. But my cousins wedding at the coral house is coming up in oct. and I will post about that when I get back. I would love to hear the good, the bad and the ugly about my hall

It's not your hall, but tell your cousin I've been to the Coral House for a co. party, and the food and service were great!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

East Wind
I went to a good friends wedding there in the hotel part in August. Here is my humble opinion!!
-The attendants outside didn't seem to know where we needed to go, and directed us wrong twice getting to the ceremony
-The outdoor ceremony area was very pretty, but we heard cars passing, nextels going, and loud people on the driveway.
-The food was good
-The bartenders we ok to me, but a friend of mine said they said something really dumb to her (can't remember what it was)
-The room was very pretty, brand new actually
-The bathrooms were very clean and really nice!
-The bride herself had no complaints!
Raphael Vineyard
This was last year in June but here you go:
-The outdoor ceremony was beautiful, with the vineyard in the background
-The wine was excellent
-The food was very good
-The bridal suite was awsome
-The service was excellent
-The cocktail hour room was awsome
-The dinner room was very nice, but we stayed in the CH room
-The bathrooms were very clean
-The bride had no complaints!

Sand Castle - 11/19/05

all i can say about the cocktail hour was OH MY GOD. It was absolutely amazing. The food was incredible - i think i ate an entire aquarium full of seafood.

They had a chocolate fountain, and a dessert hour, and everything was fantastic. The wait staff did a good job - and i couldn't believe when the bm came around asking everyone if they wanted seconds!

So the service and the food were amazing! The place itself was nice - thought not neccessarily my tatse - but everyones varies with that.

If you're having your wedding there - you and your guests will not be dissapointed!

Sand Castle Sunday Evening October 2001
I was in the BP. They kept the bridal suite filled with food which was amazing. The main course was great and the VH was to die for. They have some great picture spots

Crest Hollow Friday Evening March 2004
Not my faborite. Though the food is good the cH room was way too small. Thank God we were one of the first people to go from the ceremony room to the CH room. We got a seat. But definitely not enough to go around. I also don't like the moving bars. JMO.

Villa Lombardi's Friday Evening October 2004
Wonderful. Beautiful place. CH was amazing. Enough seats for every person invited!!! Stations are scattered so there was no traffic jam. Main couse was great. My FH had the pork chops and they were huge and very tasty. Cake was to die for they even served it with a scoop of ice cream. Um um good!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Watermill - went to a wedding last year and it was fabulous - great cocktail hour food and stations were separated.

Then I went there in November and I was so utterly disappointed. First, the cocktail hour was not ready when the guests got there and they were out in a cramped undecorated little cramped side room where there was a CASH bar and no food and the staff didn't really explain to the guests that this was not the real cocktail hour room and that they would be escorted into teh real cocktail hour room once it was ready so many of them didn't know what to do with themselves (this was a 250 person wedding). Then once the cocktail hour opened, they set it up on these long tables where you could only have one line on either side to get to all the stations rather than separate stations so there were 2 huge lines that took forever and one server for every 3 cocktail hour stations. It must have taken me 20 minutes to get any food and the food was horrible!! Then when we got to the reception I went to get a drink and was told that the bar was closed until after the best man speech, which was after the first dance. Are you kidding me???? The dinners were mediocre at best.

On the positive side, once the waitstaff took your drink order they never let your glass get empty without having another drink ready, although they were extremely watered down. The Viennese hour was great and I think they made a huge effort so that bride and groom didn't notice these things, but trust me, the guests did.

Although the wedding was beautiful because of the guests and the bride and groom and their happiness, I would have been peed off if I booked the watermill, which has such a great reputation, and things turned out the way they did.
