Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

My favorite wedding I've attended on LI was at The Woodlands - July 2005. I don't know if I missed it, but I haven't seen anyone mention this place yet. It was absolutely gorgeous. I love it.

I've been to 2 weddings at The Watermill (both summer). I didn't care for the fact that we were in the basement. The outside CH was beautiful though.

LArkfield Manor - wasn't really my favorite, but the food was good.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I went to a wedding this June (friday night) at Windows on the Lake...
the cocktail hour room was too small for the amount of people there (about 150) not a lot of room for people to sit
the main room- again was too small for the amount of people she had. the food was okay. the house dj was really good.
overall, just a bit small but i think it's because the ceilings are so low since it's an older place.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Went to a wedding this past June 3rd (Saturday) at Glen Cove Mansion....
I thought the cocktail hour food was scarce - it was also all in different rooms that you had to weave in and out of with a drink and plate and stairs to contend with yikes...

I thought the service at dinner could have been way better. The bartenders seemed overwhelmed -- it took forever to get a drink from the waitress and then when i went to the bar they looked annoyed at me.

We were the last table to get our meals and a minute after they put our food down they were asking us if we wanted coffee. I think it was our server's first event because she looked scattered and afraid of us. The filet was good but they were all cooked the same - even though a few people at the table requested well, rare etc.

It is a nice space though if you want that old-time classic look.

The only other thing that bothered me was while i was standinga t the bar to order a drink at the end of the night, by the time i got up to it the bartender rudely told me the bar was closed. Granted it was the end of the night but the hosts extended the band an extra hour and not the bar - since i was standing there waiting I assumed I would have gotten my last drink. Maybe not the hall's fault but still frustrating

Overall the service could have been better. I think there was a language barrier too.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

okay let me think back:

*Sunday night in November 2003
*The Lighthouse in Manhattan

I was in the bridal party - this was my brother's wedding. EXCELLENT FOOD! The most amazing and different food I have ever had at a wedding! The staff was super helpful! The place is amazing! I highly recommend it for a summer wedding though so you can take FULL advantage of the outside area RIGHT on the water!

*Friday night in November 2004
*Villa Russo in Queens

Great food, excellent service - but the seating was pretty cramped! Also, they were redoing the outside and never informed the B&G before hand!

*Friday night in September 2005
*The Carltun at Eisenhower Park

AMAZING GROUNDS! Great food - very different! Very helpful staff. . .but the outside area is what makes this place special!

I really loved reading about my hall in this post - I started a list of things I want to talk to them about so I make sure that my wedding works out well!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

I am getting married at Crest Hollow and I am certainly NOT paying $55 a head. I would love to know who they knew to get a price like that considering I am a personal friend of the owner!!! They do have more that one wedding at a time (3 maximum) but certainly not 6. Crest Hollow also makes it their business to make sure that brides do not run into each other. They know that it may upset a bride to see another bride.

Perhaps I am being a little sensitive (and I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion) but I seriously resent that previous post reply about the insinuation that Crest Hollow is a cheap place to have your wedding and about being a 6 bride catering hall.

.

6 weddings at a time bride. but if you dont mind that, and you dont have a huge amount of $$ to spend per person, DEFINITELY check it out.

I don't thing it was necessary remark to make

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Here are my two from this week......

Gennaros, Brooklyn NY
It was a low budget wedding, which I knew and wasn't sure what to expect. They did a wonderful job. The food was very good and the staff was very attentive. The bride did a great job at choice of flowers and her color scheme complemented the decor. I know they offer all included packages, and if someone is looking for this type of set-up, it is worth the inquery.

Giando's on the Water, Brooklyn NY
Located by the williamsburg bridge, and over looking the NY sky line, this place was really nice. I was in the bridal party so i was treated very well, as i believe were the other guests. The food was fantastic and the view in the main dining hall was beautiful. The ceremony was outside and it was really lovely.

i dont think it was a bad remark. she's being honest. we definetely ruled out crest hollow because they do have alot of weddings and other parties going on at one time.

i went to a very unique wedding on monday july 3rd at crest hollow.

the ceremony was a very unique ceremony on the beach in long beach! there were chairs and an aisle set up right on the beach, and all of the locals on the beach and boardwalk were watching and cheering. it was SO cute!! although it was like 90 degrees and sunny and humid so there were A LOT of people on the beach.

the reception was at crest hollow. CH food was great. i love the atmosphere around the pool and its too bad they cant have the whole reception there cause its so gorgeous and ambiant.
im not sure what room the reception was in, but it wasnt huge although it was well sized for the amount of people there ( i think about 180-200).
food at reception was good. interesting thing was that they only had a salad then main course and viennese. no appetizer in the middle. i thought that was kind of weak but in the long run youre already full so it doesnt matter all that much. it just seems like a rather long wait between salad and entree since salad is already on the table when you walk in. the entrees werent spectacular, the choices were between chicken, salmon, and prime rib. i had the chicken which was good. fried white meat breast with some bruschetta-like topping. tasty but not amazing. viennese was nice with a banana flambe station, cakes, ice cream bar, cannolis, zeppolis and what not.
as far as service, our waiter was really young, but he did a good enough job. service not spectacular, but nothing really to complain about. they dont go above and beyond, but by no means are they rude or innadequate either. basically you get what you pay for at $55 a person lol. but no complaints at all on that end.
actually my only complaint about crest hollow is that because there are so many affairs at one time, you can hear them all. for example, when the MOH was giving her toast you heard thumping in the background coming from the DJ in the room next door...basically if you are a bride thats worried about running into another bride in the bathroom..Crest Hollow IS NOT the place for you..but other than that there were really no complaints.
i was on the grooms side but i wouldnt be surprised if that bride is a LIW gal. it was so cute, since they got married on the beach they did a whole turquoise and khaki beach theme. it looked great! all little touches like the camera scavenger hunt, sand dollar place cards, even a faux palm trees. really cute overall.

when i was about 16 i visited crest hollow for a conference. always thought id get married there cause i love the ambiance around the pool. luckily i found that somewhere else cause i am NOT a 6 weddings at a time bride. but if you dont mind that, and you dont have a huge amount of $$ to spend per person, DEFINITELY check it out.

This is MY SISTER's wedding you're talking about! I was the MOH... and I can tell you that she did NOT pay $55 a head... so I don't know what you're referring to in that you get what you pay for. I think you should check your facts before you post stuff like this.

The brides would not run into each other in the bathrooms... that is what the bridal suite is for.
