Have You Been to a Wedding at? (Updated Today)

Original post by FrescaBride

I thought that I'd post this after I saw the JA's post. I think Honest Opinions are the best, at least in my judgement. I LOVE these boards because it gives me insights into making my wedding affair a better one in terms of planning, in considering things that I wasn't aware of or things I didn't know etc. I thought this would give us opinions so that we can realize what is really important to us and perhaps issues that we may want to stress with our catering facilities that are important to us that we probably didn't think we needed to bring up because we were thinking that it'd be done the best possible way. I think this will benefit all of the LIW Brides including myself. I was thinking we can all post opinions of catering facilities that either us or someone close to us have been to a wedding in the past 6 months. I think it is only fair that we expect the very best after we have spent so much

Please post your opinions in a honest, candid and classy way but also in a way that gives the facilities things to improve on if something was handled the wrong way or gives them Kudos for helping the bride make it a memorable affair. Perhaps some of these vendors will review from time to time these opinions and will try to make the very best changes to improve their business and keep their customers happy and satisifed.
Let's start a thread and keep it active and bump it so that other future LIW Brides can benefit as well.
Now I hope I don't get banned for starting somekind of rebellious opinions on these boards since I'm already addicted to the boards.....

So Post Away LIW Brides and Grooms !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Lets see....

5 years ago my cousin got married on a saturday afternoon at the huntington townhouse. I was a bridesmaid. I remember it being pretty decent.

5 years ago. Our friends (the matchmakers they set mike and I up) got married at the fox hollow April 25. Friday night. The food was good. However when we went to look they kind of rushed us out didn't show us any of the grounds and the guy had no Clue what he was talking about. And he was the general manager.

3 years ago my cousin got married at the Coral House. I was again a bridesmaid. I didnt go to the cocktail hour... I don't think. If I did then I don't remember. I wasn't happy with their bridal suit. It had a door to the Kitchen While my cousin was getting dressed Cooks and people kept coming in and out of it.

2 years ago I was in a comitment ceremony for my gay cousin and his boyfriend. The food was excellent. The view was amazing. It was very nice. The drinks at the cocktail hour were so yummy....

I went to lots of wedding in Georgia so if anyone needs reviews of them let me now LOL....

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Meadow Club (Feb 03? Maybe 02) - the cocktail hour room was BEYOND cramped. There weren't enough tables for everyone, and the tables that were there, were literally about 2-3 feet apart. So those who weren't lucky enough to have seats had to stand in between the tables, and try not to get trampled by people walking back and forth. (As you can imagine, we didn't really get to eat during the CH) (Honestly, that part of the wedding stood out SO much to me, I don't really remember much else)

Has anyone been to a wedding at the George Washington Manor?

I'm so glad everyone is posting away and putting reviews. I just can't believe that nothing has been posted about my catering facility. I guess I should take it as no news is good news.
Well, keep the reviews coming !!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

May 2002 - Sunday afternoon - Westbury Manor - FH's cousin's wedding - ceremony was outside which is beautiful (gotta love those peacocks!) The cocktail hour was okay - like a lot of places, there wasn't really enough seating and the food was all in one buffet line. There were some passed hors d'hoevres but not many. The reception room was okay but a little cramped. FH and I weren't crazy about the food but we are extremely choosy. Everyone else seemed to like it. There was another affair going on at the same time, and there always seemed to be a wait for the bathroom, as well as the valet at the end. The bar service was good.

It wasn't a wedding but a business affair at Russo's on the Bay - March 2004 - Friday daytime - we were the only ones there. There was a welcome which would be similar to cocktail hour - coffee, cakes, breads - there were plenty of stations and no real wait. They even had fresh squeezed juice while you wait. There was plenty of room in the reception area where we had lunch. We all thought service was slow - there were about 20 - 24 tables, and some people were done with the entree before the others were done with the salad. Maybe because it was a day function and wasn't a wedding they didn't bring in enough waiters. By the time I got to dessert, which was set up on tables outside the room, there was nothing left and they did not replenish. One thing I would definitely not like as a bride is the sign that flashes what is going on - 'please be seated for dinner' - 'dessert now being served' - it's a black sign with red dots that form the letters. I do not think that is appropriate for a wedding at all. Again I didn't like the food but most people did.

I've been to two other weddings in the past year but can't remember where they were. I guess they didn't make too much of an impression on me. One was in Nassau - I think in West Hempstead - and the other in Brooklyn.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

I have been to two weddings recently.

Inn at Eastwind...The food was excellent. The cocktail hour was amazing. The staff was so friendy and helpful. The room was beautiful! She also had a Vienese Hour. Probably the best one I have ever seen! It was amazing how many different desserts they served.

Sunset Harbor... Coctail hour only had a few selections. They closed down the bar 20 min before we entered the reception and didn't open it back up in the reception for 30 min! Didn't like the setup of the reception room, my table, as well as a few others, was practically in the hallway. The bathrooms were messy and the food was not very appealing. Unfortunately the cake was dry as well.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Swan Club - The food was good. I think they should really lower the minimum for the bigger room (Camelot Room?) because it was packed tight. Then again, there were over 200 and something people.

Crest Hollow CC - Good food also. There wasn't enough room in the cocktail hour room for everyone to sit down, but it was a big wedding. But the service staff was just horrible. One of them filled my friend's glass with champagne, and it overflowed and got on her. Then that same woman picked up my plate of salad, and the fork fell on me. Then a guy was picking up dishes and piling it in one of those things that hold over their shoulder, and a plate hit me in my back. The maitre'd did give me a card to cover the dry cleaning though. I was lucky because I had a black dress on. I was just mad because everytime these things happened, the service staff themselves never just said once 'sorry'. I never saw a waitstaff so clumsy!

Dante's (in Jackson Heights) - Good food. The cocktail hour room was in the same room as the dinner room. You didn't get a choice of what to eat for dinner. Everyone had chicken. Though I think that was to save money for a budget wedding. I think they can offer choices if you so choose. I'm going there again for a christening on Sunday.

Whoa, amazing, I just read soemone else's review above say the same thing about Crest Hollow.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Went to a few weddings last summer:

Villa Lombardi's (Sat Night)- Fabulous, what can I say cocktail hour, dinner, vienesse hr was outstanding. Place was beautiful.

Crest Hollow (Sat Afternoon)- Cocktail hr & dinner were good. I felt that they didn't have a huge selection at the cocktail hr.

Waters Edge, long island city (Sun Night)-
The view is absoulutely stunning. It's nice for a smaller scale wedding. The cocktail hour did not impress me as there was very little offered but dinner was very good.

Jericho Terrace (Fri night)- I love the place, especially the dome room. Kind of up in the air about the cocktail hr. I didn't think the food was good. I thought dinner & dessert were excellent.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

This thread is such a great idea! Thanks everyone!

Here's what I have:

I went to a wedding at the Milridge inn last year (summer, friday night) and it was awesome. Very country-ish beauty which I love- cocktail hour was great. The reception food was really good too. The room we were in was definitely big which was nice...
Nothing negative to say!

I have a bunch of weddings coming up - I'll post on those!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Most of the weddings I've attended have not been on LI, but I did go to one in the summer/spring of 2002 at Fox Hollow on a Thursday night. The food was fine - there was certainly a ton of it for the cocktail hour (indeed so much that, not being used to LI weddings, we wondered if it was dinner!), but overall I didn't enjoy the wedding. A big part of the problem was that the band (the Original Faze 4) was *way* to loud (they were great, but so loud that it really was impossible to have any kind of conversation ever). Some things that Fox Hollow did that I thought they could improve on: they were folding up chairs as guests were leaving the ceremony room; it was unclear where to go from the ceremony room; seats were way too smushed together. Sorry to be a bit negative, but I do think that the band volume was probably the biggest issue (and obviously doesn't reflect on Fox Hollow).

Went to a wedding at Vineyard Caterers (matron's wedding) and it was amazing... her pictures of them walking through the vineyard together are truly beautiful... the place was very elegant, but not gaudy... food was INCREDIBLE... truly...

Fall 2003 - Fox Hollow - Sunday night
Best cocktail hour ever - loved the outside set up great great food, the presentation was lovely it was really just magical. I loved it.
You never knew you were not the only wedding. The room was set up strange so you had to turn to see the dance floor. The entrees were ok - no complaints.

Spring 2003 - Carlyle on the Green - Saturday Afternoon
Impeccable service, waitstaff remembered our drinks and there was always a fresh one. I didn't have the cocktail hour (we were late - but everyone was raving about it )Food was excellent - decor was elegant and the grounds were awesome. Bridal attendant seemed to be right on top of everything. The Bathrooms were spotless. I had the Sea Bass it was great FH had filet he loved it.

Spring 2003 - Terrace on the green - Friday night
Let me start off by saying this was the best food at a wedding ever. This place is only set up for very small weddings - the cocktail hour food was great but there was not enough of it - also I would suggest more thatn 1 bartender if you have a drinking crowd. Elegant and well kept - great for a small group.

Summer 2003 Giorgios - Thursday night
Beautiful grounds lovely hall - we were greeted with bubbly and strawberries - I thought that was a nice touch. Cocktail hour food was ok - entrees were ok.
The grounds and the outside decks were very relaxing it was sooo hot out that day - so it was nice to cool off with a drink on the decks.

I will be at Windwatch and Oheka (as an attendant) this summer and I will fill everyone in !

I love hearing reviews of the Fox Hollow!!!

I have been ZERO weddings on LI! Most are Staten Island or New Jersey!

I am going to a wedding on Saturday, but even that one is at the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

well there has been so many the past year or two i cannot remember but i will try...

Woodbury Country club 11/02 Friday night the day after thanksgiving..the place was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was great!! Not that this has to do anything, but the DJ was the best, I think it was called Double G or something like that. One of the best weddings I have ever been to. Not one person was sitting down the entire time!!

July 2003 Three Village Inn- Satrurday Very quaint, and nice, not your typical catering type facility. Looked like an old inn, but not run down. It was a little tight for the amount of people at the wedding 170. Food was good, nice presentation! They had a band called NY Swing TERRIFIC!!!

August 2003- Fox Hollow Country Club Friday night wedding, Cocktail hour was in the garden room? Food was good, Reception area was ina room that felt like a basement with low ceilings. Overall it was nice though.

October 2003 Friday Night North Ritz Club Place was elegant and classy, only one wedding at a time. Service was excellent and the food was great!!

April 2 2004 Friday Night Inn at East wind. The place was breathtaking as you were driving up tp it! The food was great at both the cocktail hour and reception!! I had a choice of six entrees!!!

Hope this helps!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

This is the best thread!!!! Look no one is fighting and saying I can't believe you said that about my hall!!!! We should all pay attention to these though so if any of our halls are on here we can make sure the same thing doesnt happen at our wedding.

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

February, 2003 - Went to a wedding at The Floral Terrace. CH was great... lots of food! Dinner was also really good and they even offered seconds to anyone who wanted it. The room is really big and they only do one wedding at a time. Since the room is so big, you need to have a good amount of people at the wedding to fill up the room so it doesn't look empty..

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Does it count if it's been YEARS since you've been to a wedding at a particular venue? I mean, I was a BM for weddings at the Riviera of Massapequa, Villa Lombardi's, El Caribe in Brooklyn, and Giordano's in Brooklyn, but we're going back 5-9 years!!!

Re: Have You Been to a Wedding at?

Crescent Beach Club-2003- In my opinion the I did not like this whole wedding. The cocktail hour was too spread out and the selection was not so great. I do not like the ballroom and the food was not great either at dinner.

Larkfield Manor-2003-Excellent!! I love the ballroom. It is very pretty and the food was very good. The only problem was the cocktail hour was not big enough to seat everyone so a lot of people were standing. I hate that.

Fox Hollow-2002-Very nice. The cocktail hour was amazing and it was a beautiful warm day so it was outside. The reception food was ok but I did not like the room. It was the long room and it was too small.

Milleridge-2002-I love the cocktail hour room but I did not like the reception room. It was a little to cold for me. Nothing really warm and fuzzy here. The vienesse hour was excellent. The dinner was not very good.
