He was going to propose to her when they got to Disney. I feel so bad for her! She doesn't know and the family isn't sure if they should let her know.
Oh and they let the other guy out on bail since technically he isn't dead yet, they are waiting for the organ recipients to be finalized. Unbelievable. This guy is walking around, and I have to tell my son tonight that his daddy is dead.

I just wanted to add that I think the girl should know...For me it would be some comfort of just how much he loved me and had hoped to spend the rest of our lives together...I don't wish to be the one to tell her but I just feel that she should know, kwim?

This whole situation is just horrible!! I feel so bad for everyone involved. And that drunk driver will get whats coming to him, unfortunetly not soon enough! I really hope your son is old enough to understand that his father is gone, it's really so horrible there are like no words.

I am so so sorry to all of you, this is a terrible situation and I feel so bad for you and your son.
Someone should give her the ring. I know if it was me I would have treasured it forever. It would be nice for her to have it.

I just wanted to let you know that your son is in my thoughts. I'm a child psychologist and I know how difficult it is to see a child hurting. I am sorry that you have to go through this and even sorrier that your son will have to grow up without his daddy.

Unfortunately drunk drivers get very short (if any sentencing) in this state. My sister was killed by a drunk driver years ago and the guy sent the night in jail (until he made bail) and then got community service.
The laws in NY suck.
I hope your son is comforted by all the love of his family.
