Went to Whitehall... looking at a platinum band with 1/2 ct diamonds .... orginally 1500... I would get for 750...

That is a very good deal. If you love it, you should get it. I wouldn't worry about them closing. I can't see you having a problem. If you do, it will be way off into the future, and you'll take it to another jeweler.

it is all relative
1/2 ct. cluster or 1/2 ct. that is comprised of 4 stones; 7 stones - all makes a difference
the more stones it takes to equal the 1/2 ct. the smaller they are
