HELP on photography!
Okay...I've given this rundown to every family member and friend, yet I'm still at a dead end. I'm thinking that actually writing it all out to fellow brides may help, so here goes...I'm trying to choose a wedding photographer (I'm not going to mention names only because one is out of the area and less known). Here are my pros/cons: Photographer A has an amazing personality and we really clicked, Photographer B wasn't terrible but not a total click
Photographer A and B were similar in price
Photographer A is newer (3 years experience) and B is a veteran (15 years)
Photographer A had a more creative style that we liked, Photographer B was also creative but not as much Photographer A didn't have as many photos in portfolio, Photographer B had a wide range of photos
Photographer A hasn't worked much with large weddings/wedding parties (which is what we're having) while Photographer B has.
Photographer B has been recommended to us by lotsss of friends while no one has really heard of Photographer A.
Okay, I know it's a rambling message but any thoughts?? Thanks ladies! Didn't think this would be this hard!

A for sure. can you get reviews on other boards? you could have another gina esposito or AJ ingoglia circa 2010 on your hands !we almost did this with a videographer BUT he had almost NO portfolio which is why we didnt.

I WISH I could find some reviews on other boards...they're not LI based (actually in Queens, NY) but I checked the knot also and did a google search and beyond reviews on their website/facebook pages I can't find anything!

A! I almost had a similiar experience. I think two things are super important....1 - You totally clicked with A! This is a great! This means you will feel comfortable shooting with this person and in turn ---will have great photos.2 - A is very creative but not as much experience - B not so creative but been around 10+ years. I had the same issue. The reason why I went with my 'A' was because I wanted unique, creative photos. If someone has been around for only 3 years, that means they will get better with time, you just found them early on :)

Re: HELP on photography!
Photographer A has an amazing personality and we really clicked, Photographer B wasn't terrible but not a total clickThis is HUGE that you felt a connection with one over the other.
Photographer A and B were similar in price
This really, then, isn't a factor if you like one much more than the other.
Photographer A is newer (3 years experience) and B is a veteran (15 years)
Veteran doesn't always mean the best! Everybody starts out new at some point, and it doesn't necessarily mean that their work isn't as 'worthy!'
Photographer A had a more creative style that we liked, Photographer B was also creative but not as much
You have to go with the style you like. Even if one is creative but 'not as much,' that still means something.
Photographer A didn't have as many photos in portfolio, Photographer B had a wide range of photos
You know you love A's style and you were able to gain from A's portfolio what style they use, so maybe it doesn't matter that they don't have as many photos?
Photographer A hasn't worked much with large weddings/wedding parties (which is what we're having) while Photographer B has.
This may be the only downside. Still, A hasn't worked 'much' with large weddings, so does that mean they still HAVE? Did you ask to see photos they did of large weddings?
Photographer B has been recommended to us by lotsss of friends while no one has really heard of Photographer A.
Definitely doesn't always matter! I had never heard of ANY photographers until I started doing research! And only you know what's best for your day, so while friends mean well, they don't necessarily know who's best for you, they're only going by the person they happen to know.
Hope this helps!

HELP on photography!
I say, based on reading what you wrote and the way you wrote it, you know in your gut, photographer A is the choice. Sometimes, as much as you think the photographer wont be good, remember, every photographer was a newbie at some point, every one starts some where, even the best of the best. It takes time to build a business but just because they are new, doesn't mean they aren't good. we were all new at something at one point but do get to where we are now. I'm a teacher and as I reflect back, I feel my first year teaching was horrible, however, during that first year i thought i did an amazing job and my students learned a lot. but every year you modify and get betterI say photographer A.

Re: HELP on photography!
I honestly think I was always leaning toward A and then my dad (retired photographer) asked about whether she worked with larger parties. I asked her and she sent me about 5-6 photos of bridal parties of 7 total (we're having 13!) and I wasn't in love with them. She said she's done larger parties...maybe I'll talk to her again about this, as it seems to be what's holding me back the most.

HELP on photography!
Well, my wedding's come and gone, so let me tell you what I learned. 1. If they're new, they're making mistakes. That's ok, but not if it's my wedding! 2. If their pictures don't thrill me, then NEXT! Because I'm gonna have to live with them. It's me who's gonna have to look at them. For the record I was MORE than happy with my photographer. So I recommend picking them based on those two things. Experience and Portfolio.

I would go with A if you're looking for something new and unique, because I've found in most professions that the people who have been around the longest are the people that are 'stuck in their ways' and are doing the same things for everything.Welcome New Vendors
