HELP! Two Distraught Brides on a HUGE Budget!

Original post by 2BrideDisneyWedding

Ok so here is our story in a small nut shell :)

We got engaged in 2008 in Disney World and have been ever since. Now that we are reaching our 4 year ann. date of being together we figured its time to FINALLY get married! We live in NY so its not yet legalized but were hoping it will be by 2012. I am a HUGE Disney freak and this is the main reason we waited is so we could get married in Disney world, because my dream was to get married in Disney World... but it’s so expensive and our families are not willing to Fly out their :(

Now our new problem is money and decent venues. We have been to two so far: Shoreham Village Hall and Med Manor. We have an apt. to see Brentwood Country Club and Thursday and Larkfield Manor we canceled our apt. because it’s out of our budget. So far my fiancé’s parents are willing to give ups about 5,000 towars the wedding. My father on the other hand is being well... not cooperative. He paid for my sisters WHOLE wedding without blinking an eye, but he is giving me a hard time!

Med Manor quoted us a little over 16,000 for a Friday night wedding in July for 150 people. It was 20,000 for 200 people. This was the package they were offering. As I was walking around the venue I was just like 'ugh' I don't know. I liked it a lot better than Shoreham Hall, but its just not Disney lol Something about the rug made me itch and the onsite 600 fee to get married there and it’s not even legal. It’s just so much to take into consideration, I am actually thinking maybe we should just skip this wedding and go to the next step of life and try to have kids and buy a house instead.

We are trying to find a place that has a package deal because getting everything separate is just going to cost us even more money in the long run. I am so frustrated right now I just want to cry and almost did in the middle of Med Manor. I pulled up and was like eww I almost didn't go in. The guy was really nice and everything, but I just don't know. I don't want to settle and I don't want a dumpy wedding. My sister’s wedding was gorgeous she had hers at Majestic Gardens for 100pp in 2002.

I really wanted to get married by the water at sunset... our fav time is sunset! We are definitely going to have a Disney themed wedding no doubt about that, but its the venue that is going giving us a headache. Advice? I've read almost every post from the last 5 months on this board because I am the type of person that is a HUGE researcher and i value everyone’s HONEST opinions! So please be honest with me! WHAT SHOULD WE DO ?

Congrats!@
And Im really sorry that you have to go though that ...thats hard ..and i would def. see to try not to have your wedding in the summer it really will cost you a arm and leg ...if you do it off season you will get better prices and save money ...I love Disney myself ..after working there for 6 months ..best of luck to you and im sure you will figure out something...

Re: HELP! Two Distraught Brides on a HUGE Budget!

Well thank you everyone for your help! I have an appointment tonight at Brentwood country club and on Saturday one at beach club estate. We cut our list down to 150 max! And now were trying to not only find avenue but a date. It's hard to think a year in advance lol also trying to get my father to help like I said but he doesn't want me marrying my fiancé :( it's a mess right now, but once we find a venue and pick a date I can relax lol because we only have a year to do this and I am also finishing up graduate school at the same time!!!

Any other venues you recommend for a Disney wedding that won't break the bank?

Seriously New York should have been one of the first states that passed it. I am going for the fairytale princess theme and I think that my room is perfect for it. Jericho Terrace's Oak room gives me that Disney feeling. It has so many color changing lights it just reminds me of Sleeping Beauty and the godmother's fighting over the color of her dress.

Hope you find something perfect for you two. We are always here to help out whenever you need anything.

I actually just went to a gay wedding at the beach club estate, and OMG it was awesome!!!! The brides got married outside at the gazebo area, had CH at outside on the water and had their reception in the room by the water detached from the main house. The food and service was beyond amazing. And from what I heard, they got a great deal!

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Back when i was booked at Leonard's = I had an AMAZING price.
absolutely unheard of actually!!
I walked in there and told them we wanted to get married sooner rather than later and that filling a hole in their book would allow them to have a party and us to have a good price- I allowed them to pick a date and accepted it.
(the price was well under a hundred per person)

It was fit for a princess with a huge winding staircase and amazing decor!
Check into it-
Congrats and good luck

I am not much help when it comes to RHs, since I am having an outdoor wedding, but congrats on the wedding! I am so sorry that you are having these budget issues with your family. It is really unfair!
I am sure you know this, but NY recognized marriages and civil unions performed elsewhere...so maybe you could find somewhere in NJ, that way you could have the legal ceremony, but it wouldn't be too far for your guests to drive?

I am getting married in NJ and still using some LI vendors, too, so you can still use this site for research!

Aww I'm sorry it didn't work out!!

I agree with the other ladies about NY's despicable delay in same sex marriage- I'm a social worker so I talk/fight about this every day with people!!!

Back to your wedding- I know you've been engaged for a long time but if you don't find what you want then I agree with either picking a different month/day or maybe even moving it to the next year. I'm sure that's the LAST thing you want to do, but I know how it feels to find a venue that you love that is WAY over budget/not finding a venue that you love within your budget. Whether it's $5,000 or $50,000, money is money and if you're gonna spend it you want to love it! FH and I decided that, since we want a more expensive venue, that we will have to wait 2 years to pay it off. Both of our families aren't helping us either (and my parents gave my sister $5,000, paid for her rehearsal dinner and bought her dress) so I feel your pain there!

Good luck with everything and I hope you find the venue that you love!!!

Try Sans Souci?

Don't give up hope after looking at a few.. CLICK THIS it's the RH location guide. It has a lot of price listings on here. I know when we were searching Island Hills in Sayville was very reasonably priced as well as Mill Pond Country Club in Medford, & West Sayville Country Club. If you are flexible with your date & negotiate a little the price can be lower. Also just keep in mind that with the all-inclusive package is the basic of basic packages & sometimes it makes you upgrade. Originally thats what we wanted. But we got some basic things from our vendors & upgraded a little in some areas. Also if you offer to some vendors that you will pay cash you can get tax taken out! HTH

I have yet to hear from my father... But we looked at the watermill Thursday. The price was reasonable however it was for a Thursday wedding or January... Not for me :( also I don't like that your not the only bride and it felt very commercial to me : / I need to do more research as I have seen mixed reviews about med manor which is our only choice right now. Sigh any other cheap nice rh suggestions?

I second Leonard's, did you look there? What about the Coral House?
Also, one of the places I looked at didn't do sit down dinners. They did stations all night (not one big buffet) all night. We strongly thought about it for two reasons: one it was much cheaper and two, it reminded us of cocktail hour food, which everyone likes better anyway. Maybe try that? Lunches or late night dessert parties are also less expensive.
