I can see you in a red gown..if it means that much to mom and if you can afford it, wear the dress she insists on for the ceremony, and wear the red one for the reception. After the ceremony you can leave for 15 mins to change, or change before you make your grand entrance. I would love to have two gowns, your a lucky girl if you get to!

Wow - You are seriously backed into a corner.
Yes, being that your Mom is sick, I am SURE you are extremely grateful that she is able to share you plans and your wedding day with you - HOWEVER, you should absolutely NOT have to endure a WEDDING GOWN that you are unhappy with and uncomfortable in.
This is YOUR Wedding day. - Your Mom got married already, it's your turn. - I could see sucking it up for flowers, or the color of the BM dresses or something like that - but NOT YOUR Wedding gown - I think it's unfair for your Mom to guilt you into that gown.

Janna - It's your wedding and it should be your decision alone with regards to what you wear that day. I understand your mom's influence on the situation (you know I do) but it will be you and Andrew looking at those pics years from now and you are the ones who need to be happy. If I were in the same situation, I would get the dress I really wanted and let my parents know I would pay them back for the deposit if that is what they wanted. You are a unique individual and I think you would wear a dress which reflects your personality. Go with your heart on this one.

ETA: The Capri dress was on my short list of choices as well. I think it's a gorgeous dress and you would look amazing in it.

I am bumping this because unfortunately even with my dress now in, I still pretty much feel the same way. It has been driving me crazy even since back when I originally posted this thread back in August. So it goes to show you how I have been agonizing over this.

Here's a pic of me in the dress since I went to visit it when it came in. I am not happy that my tattoo is showing (something I was looking to cover in any dress I picked) and 2 dresses I am close to buying on Ebay....

Those dresses on Ebay are gone. I was bidding on one and all of a sudden poof, the auction was cancelled and the seller is no where to be found. I knew it was too good to be true.I'm having a problem similar to yours. My mom bought me a dress, but I'm just not sure of it. She's really making me feel like crap. It's not fair to us. We should be happy on our day....Your dress is beautiful. But if you are really really unhappy with it, You should go for what you really want, 'your dress, your dream' (alfred angelo advertisement lol).

I'm on your side about this. What does your mother being sick have to do with your wedding dress. Those are two separate issues. It doesn't make sense to equate the two. Your mother would be happy in any dress you wore (why should you feel guilt). I'm assuming that you have always dealt with issues like this with your parents.

I think you should get the dress you want...but being that your mother is sick I don't know I would feel bad not to use her dress. If they can get their deposit back then i say go for it get the dress you want or maybe you can give them back the money being that they already put out the deposit although it was against your wishes.

The dress you pick you should compromise.

I agree with those saying wear that dress to the ceremony and a red dress for the reception - seems like a good compromise. That ***** that you have been agonizing over it for so long. Something needs to be done so that you don't feel so bad anymore. I hope you find a solution so that you can enjoy the rest of your planning!

This is your day, but remember that your mom is also a big part of it. My mom forced me to add cap sleeves to my strapless dress. Even though i really wanted a strapless gown, in the end i knew it would make her happy so i did it. Try and compromise. Wear the dress for the ceremony, and change into a pretty red gown for the reception. Good luck with your decision

Wow, I must say it's a beautiful dress!! Although you have to be happy, I would try and get the deposit back...afterall it is YOUR day.

I think I will end up being a 2 dress bride. I just have to figure out how to explain this to my parents. Of course the thing is we are taking our pics before the ceremony, so what do I do about that??

I think I'll try on Capri and Capri Marie again later today and show pics for a comparison. (I think there's also a Justin Alexander in the same color as the red dress I posted). I'll have to do all 3 for a comparison.

I really think you should wear the dress to your ceremony, and then change to something fun, sexy and red for the reception. At this point I wouldn't even mention the second dress to your parents. Just go and buy something you love, what can they do about it on your wedding day. You let your mom have her way, and you should have yours too.

Apparently my FBIL has given the approval of the red dress....(he's gay, so that kind of explains his reaction as your average male would probably never say these things!!)

He emailed me after I sent him the pics and wrote:

'Oh my God, that gown!!!!! I almost fainted! Oh how
wonderful it would be to walk down the aisle in that!
Your mom probably would not forgive you. I've never
seen something that beautiful in my life, WOW.'

Love,
Ron

If I buy it, I will get it tomorrow and it takes 15 days for shipping, so hopefully I would have it by the 16th.
