Here's a question about BP gifts...

Original post by OctBride03

This may have been asked already, but what is the average amount to spend on each BP member? I have 23 people in my BP, plus parents! If you don't mind, what price range are you looking at when you purchase or have purchased these gifts? Thanks!

OH - Also, do you get gifts for the readers and hostess? (Thanks Lizlen for this idea, I'm utilizing that title! ) And grandmother???

HELP! I still have 9 months to go, BUT, I should really get started on some of these things!

Thanks Lisa! Looks like you are on a roll and you have more time than me! I wish I was as organized as you!

Oct: Lots of people still give jewelry that goes with the dress. (IMO,Buying matching accessories for a dress that the BM didnt pick out in the first place and may not necessary love is not a very thougtful gift unless the jewelry is something the reciptent wants independently and can wear again.)

I gave my my BMs marcasite earrings that they did not wear with their gown - I got them because I knew they liked marcasite. I got my MOH a marcasite watch and pin in addition to the earrings. I also gave them a big spa themed box including a monogrammed robe. Also took them to see Caberet as part of the bridal luncheon; gave them 'heart' Pjs with my bridesmaid newsletter, paid for their hair and took them out to lunch whenever we went dress shopping.

I'm also having bp gift issues. If your bms are having hair and makeup done, who is expected to pay for it? If I pay for it, can it be part of their gift?
Or do bms usually just pay for their own hair and makeup?

I think you should spend whatever it is that you see fits them, or what they would like.
I don't believe there is a 'set' amount.

I am not buying for my readers, they are john's aunts who are both nuns

Thanks Jenn!

Starhead: if your BM's are getting there hair and makeup done why don't you get them a gift certificate for the person who is doing it. And then yes, that would be their gift! If you want to do something else, maybe a piece of jewelry or something. My friend did that for us when she got married. We got the G/C at the RD and used it towards whatever we had done the day of the wedding & we got earrings that matched the gown.

I thnk most of the time BMs usually pay for their own, you can def. incorporate it in their gift such but I would not make it their ONLY gift, simply b/c YOU want them to get their hair & makeup done, so it's like a gift, but not really.
That's why I'm not considering the jewelry I buy them for the wedding a gift, as STef mentioned in one of her posts.

I dont' care if they get it or done or not and not all the bms are getting it done. I had asked who wanted it, some said yes, some said no.
So obviously I would get the ones that aren't some other gift and maybe pay for the hair /makeup for the others and another smaller gift.
And of course a thank you card!!

We've decided to get what suits each person, I plan on getting the girls earrings to wear with their dresses, but nothing they can't wear again. Possibly some pretty silver knot earrings. I'm probably going to embellish that in a goody bag of stuff they will use.

The guys are probably getting sports related stuff. Personalized bats, etc. Guys are simple!

I spent about $100pp. I agree it doesn't have to be a set amount..it should be what you can afford and what you see fit. I did not want to get jewelry because all of the girls had different tastes and I rather not pick their jewelry for them. I like gifts that are useful, personal and can be used again.

I bought the MOH and 5 BM's wine colored Coach Makeup bags (matched the dress but they can be used again), small compact makeup mirror and sheer black shawls. I gave my MOH a little extra something as well. I will give each a picture of from the wedding in a frame when they are ready.

I got BM and 6 GM a 3 month subscription to beer of the month and a monogrammed beer mug (set of 4 mugs for BM).

I gave my male readers those personalized baseball bats. I gave the ring bearer the smaller version of the bat and a goodie bag of fun toys and candy. I gave my female reader the Coach bag as well.

I didn't give grandparents. I gave both sets of parents. One paly tickets and one gift certificates to some home stores (my parents recently moved to a new home and could use some help fixing it up).
