No. Slavery lasted for 400 years. The civil right's movement was in the 60's.
What rights do gays have?
100 years ago? Try the right for women to vote was passed in 1920. It wasn't until the 70's when those pesky, hairy-legged, feminists fought for your right to sit in the office you're sitting in.
Jordan, you just made my point. Things take a long time. And my entire point is that people should keep fighting. That's all. Why do people take that so offensively?
Your point, is a little patronizing.

I am leaving now so if you wanna continue fight, you will have to do it without me.And I am not dontwannasay. I don't know what his or her issues are.
And I seriously took offense to the 'hope she doesn't breed' comment. I haven't personally attacked anyone on here and think that was totally uncalled for.

Well I am sorry if you feel that way. That wasn't my intention. Goodnight.

Whoever said I'm sitting in a office or that I have ever sat in an office?
I'll have to file in your skillset (along w/easily offended and quick to assume ignorance) clairvoyance now too!

I really hope that CubanBride is someone trying to play a joke on us. Otherwise...God help us! I pray that she doesn't breed!!!![]()
I think she's 'dontwannasay'.![]()
What the hell? Jeez, rude much. Can't have a civilized conversation with a nother human being without people getting nasty. What a bunch of ****.
And you guys wonder why the world is the way it is? Huh, cause of statements like that.
Cuban - I do feel that on many occasions today and on a few threads you have been hostile and try to negate other people's opinions. Some of us just want to have a discussion on issues and not turn everything into an arguement.

You shouldn't stress yourself out over someone who doesn't have the Balls to express his/her or it's feelings under their real screen name!
Just ignore it and maybe It will go away

I doubt you can file, since you quite obviously can't read. That above quote was in response to CubanBride - not you.
And here you are, still hiding behind those cyber-muscles....

Isn't there enough noteworthy causes going around that we should be fighting for besides rights that don't directly affect us all?? Maybe some of us don't live in the politically corect world you and don't support or agree w/gay marriages.
If I took to the street w/a burning torch for every cause I supported, I would never be home to exert the time or energy I really need for - my home, my life, my family. Personally, Feminisism is what f'd us ladies up in the first place!!! Wanna burn your bra? Have a party....
Unfortunately your problem is that you don't have the ability to understand other people's situation's beyond your own, which is why you would make such simplistic, ignorant and I daresay potentially bigoted comments above. But who cares since you've probably never experienced discrimination why should you give a damn? Right? The fact of the matter is that it is not about gay marriages, it is about protecting people's right to live their lives as they see fit and not legislating our morality on others.
that's is why this country remains so divided. Like I said before, too many people in this country cannot find it in their hearts to empathize with people different from themselves.

Re: Hey, people, ya know something!!!
First of all, 'dontwannasay' I'm slowly developing a deep contempt for people who hide behind fake screennames (unless it's to discuss a personal issue, etc)..Secondly just because no one on the site is gay doens't mean that we don't care about human and civil rights issues for all people. In fact, equal rights for homosexuals has been on the forefront of my mind when voting for as long as I've been able to vote. I'm not black either, I guess I shouldn't care about the civil rights act of 1964, or the staggering achievement gap either...all this time I thought I was doing something good by devoting my time and energy to closing it..but I guess since I'm not black, why should I care?

You're becoming increasingly offensive and dare I say, ignorant.
You're not getting it - we don't need a NEW movement. We've had many movements for decades. DECADES. When is enough, enough? When will equality be for all?
No Jordan, you're not getting it. Everyone here is like oh' its over, womens rights are gone, gay rights are gone.' I am not a pessimist. I am an optimist. And if I believe in something, I fight for it. No one seems to wantto fight. Yes, get off your respective asses and do something. I am sorry if you find it offensive but that's the only way thing s will change. I know its a long journey, but crap, that's just life. Slavery didn't end in 20 years. Neither did a woman's right to vote. Equality for gays has come a long way, but no, not enough. So you keep on going until you get it. 100 years ago I wouldn't be able to be sitting in the office i am sitting in now. But I am. Why, because people fought for it.
Cuban,
If you feel that why would you vote for someone that in all likelihood would use his political power to limit or erode the very rights that people have literally died for. and so you talk about fighting, when people are struggling to deal with the many setbacks they experienced under the Bush administration.
I am getting my doctorate in political science and have been studying government for years. The issue of protecting civil rights has become much more than simple optimism and simple fighting. There are increasingly systematic challenges to civil rights in general that people have been fighting and continue to fight for. So when I see a majority of people in this country willing to support people politically that have every intention of undoing the good that was done by others, and they want to give the lip service about getting off my *** and doing something about, I think I have the right to get a little pissed off and 'whine' if you will. and then get off my *** once again and keep fighting. I just hope that given the coming challenges in the next 4 years, your children and grandchildren will be able to enjoy the same priveleges you do today. If George Bush had his way, I don't think that would be the case.

Re: Hey, people, ya know something!!!
I'm sorry but this post is hysterical...People Dont you all THINK before you type something???...if not you get what you deserve and no need to blast someone for calling you names because you may or may not deserve it. ( and THAT coming from someone who hates people being rude to each other, but dumb comments deserve dumb comments back) This is in reference to the 'fake' poster BTW..2nd opinion-Anyone who creates a fake screen name doesnt deserve an opinion because they are immature, fearful of people and phony, so why would they think anyone CARES what they say.
3rd opinion- about the topic at hand..Cuban bride, I respectfully disagree with what your syaing. Many people are 'off their asse$ fighting for rights of all kinds and unfortunatly its sad that there are so few to actually make something happen.

Re: Hey, people, ya know something!!!
I have nothing against gay people...I just want to say this first before I say what I am going to say...Talking about inequity...I can not get on FH's health insurance w/ out a wedding license, so I must pay out of pocket. Meanwhile, his job told us if we were a gay couple, married or not, I would have been insured. So I ask you...is that fair?
While we are on insurance...insurance is monitored on the state level (hence: NYS department of insurance). If you have a gripe about your insurance coverage, take it up w/ Pataki...although, he has done wonderful things for us in reguard to insurance (Healthy NY, etc). Without his ins legislation, I would not even have ins!
