Hey everyone! So ive been a 'lurker' of LIW for a few months now...i knew my engagement was going to come sometime soon..but it finally happened yesterday!!! and sadly to say this morning the first thing i did was register for this site haha but i swear im real and no drama here! (i read all those posts about the crazy people) but im sooo excited i can start planning now!! I guess the first thing to do is the hall..do u have to have somewhat of a head count before u start looking at places? and a friend of mine told me that i should go to a few places even if i have my heart set on one to find out prices, so i can act like im negotiating..is that true? I have my heart set on CLM but i guess i should find out other prices first right? Thanks so much! and im sooo excited!!!!
you should def look at a couple of places. And I would go having an idea of how many people (100, 150, 200) just so you can see if they can accomodate you and etc....

Congratualations. I didn't even know about this site before I was engaged, loved that you couldn't wait to join! I would definetely get an idea of how many people you expect to attend that way you know what size room you will need and mininum and maximums. Happy hunting!

Thanks everyone!!!! and who in oneonta??? haha we just went there last weekend to visit..i almost thought he was gonna propose when we were there and was so dissapointed haha! go figure he did it the following weekend

yeah definitely try to get an idea of your headcount first. and it's definitely a good idea to look around...we made the first appointment w a place we really weren't TOO interested in, i know that sounds terrible, but we were like bumbling idiots and had NO idea what to ask!! lol...they must have known we didn't know what we were talking about...but by the 2nd and 3rd place we were like pros. so you really should go other places before CLM even if you do have your heart set on it.

CONGRATS!!!! CLM is beautiful but you should always look at other places. We are havigng our reception there and that was our first choice all along. We did look at other halls tho just to make sure. here are some other places i think you should look at...........
The riviera in massapequa......Place is really nice!! its on the water and has a garden area. The price was not too bad.
North Ritz Club........This place is gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! the rooms are awesome the bridal suite is big, they have outdoor garden and i pond with water spraying out of it ( great photo spot)
if you have a little more $$ to spend......
VYC, fox hollow, and Villa lobardis (they are all really nice too)

Yay!!! Congrats!! I did the same thing (lurked like a maniac before I got engaged). Secretly LIW is the reason I wanted to get engaged!

hahah yeah seriously! my fh saw me go on this website before we got engaged and was like 'oh boy' LOL but seriously through pictures and reviews and things i already have an idea of where i want to get married, the dress, colors LOL ..yeah i have a problem..but now i can officially post and look for all these things!!

I was out shopping with one of my friends when Brian kept texting me questions like 'is she coming home with u?', 'when are u going to be home?', 'text me when you are almost home.' So i started to FREAK out in the car, and i told my friend that if he wasnt proposing i was going to kill him for freaking me out this much! Anyways, I get home and there was a note on the door saying clue #1..and each note rhymed and gave directions of where the find the next one, each saying something nice about how much he loves me or how beautiful he thinks i am. Finally, I get to the last note on our bedroom door and it directs me to knock twice and say I love you before I can enter. When I went in there were roses all over the bed and candles lit and he got on one knee and I think he barely got through saying 'will you marry me?' I just kind of jumped on him and said yes haha..and the rest..well is history
