Hi everyone..i just got engaged!

Hey everyone! So ive been a 'lurker' of LIW for a few months now...i knew my engagement was going to come sometime soon..but it finally happened yesterday!!! and sadly to say this morning the first thing i did was register for this site haha but i swear im real and no drama here! (i read all those posts about the crazy people) but im sooo excited i can start planning now!! I guess the first thing to do is the hall..do u have to have somewhat of a head count before u start looking at places? and a friend of mine told me that i should go to a few places even if i have my heart set on one to find out prices, so i can act like im negotiating..is that true? I have my heart set on CLM but i guess i should find out other prices first right? Thanks so much! and im sooo excited!!!!

CONGRATS!!!!

Once you go to a few places you'll start to know what to ask for ...what to look...and what they are willing to work with you on. Sometimes they won't always knock a lot off the price per head, but they will throw in an extra station at cocktail hour or an ice sculpture. It is all up for discussion so it is worth it to work them a bit. It feels weird but it's well worth the $$ saved. I had them throw in another station and extra passed hor d's for the same price...you gotta work it!! :)

I was out shopping with one of my friends when Brian kept texting me questions like 'is she coming home with u?', 'when are u going to be home?', 'text me when you are almost home.' So i started to FREAK out in the car, and i told my friend that if he wasnt proposing i was going to kill him for freaking me out this much! Anyways, I get home and there was a note on the door saying clue #1..and each note rhymed and gave directions of where the find the next one, each saying something nice about how much he loves me or how beautiful he thinks i am. Finally, I get to the last note on our bedroom door and it directs me to knock twice and say I love you before I can enter. When I went in there were roses all over the bed and candles lit and he got on one knee and I think he barely got through saying 'will you marry me?' I just kind of jumped on him and said yes haha..and the rest..well is history

Such a sweet story you must be walking on air right now. Right now is the most exciting time the just engaged bliss. Enjoy every millisecond of it!

Yeah just like everyone said, go to a bunch of places, even just to practice I was so clueless when I was booking.

Hi! yes you should definitely try t negotiate the price or try and have them throw something in for you. I think a round about head count is needed only bc at CLM, there are 2 rooms and you have to guarantee 150 people to get that room. WELCOME TO THE ADDICTION!!!!!

welcome! have at least an idea on how many people you'll have coz the reception halls are going to ask you that question-- some rooms are bigger and requires more than the smaller rooms.

Yes, you should go to a couple other places to be able to negotitate prices even if your heart is set on one hall. i am guilty of only going to one RH before booking , but that was only because FH and i wanted something very specific so there really wasnt anywhere else to compare to. but now i regret not seeking out other places, even if i knew i wouldnt want them because now i start to wonder about my RH.

aww yeah i know what u mean so im def gonna go to a few..i guess u never know exactly how u feel till u 'shop around' but im sure your place is beautiful!!!

I would definitely check out other RHs even though you have your heart set on one place. I had my heart set on a place, and in the end we ended up booking there, but I was happy that I got to see other places.
