Ho do I say No?!

Original post by curliegirl

So FI and I are out to dinner last night and he asks me about Flower girls.

He has a goddaughter who would be 3 or 4 at our wedding, but here's the things:

1-We are getting married 4 hours away and silently implying that there be no kids, and everyone (mostly) is fine with it. So how do I have his goddaughter in the BP and everyone else's kids stay home?

2-His goddaughter has a brother....but apparently FI already discussed this with his cousin (the mom) and brother would stay home w/ grandparents.

3-I have a Goddaughter too, but she will only be 14 months old, and she has 2 sisters and a brother who I love to death and would love to have them in the wedding, but that's too much.

4-I don't want ANY kids in the BP, I never did.

So, it seems as if FI wants to have his goddaughter as a flowergirl, but are we stepping on toes, I think we are.
I know it would be fine if she were, but what about my goddaughter?

I have tried to just say no because it is more confusion than it is worth, but should I give in and say yes? But then I really want my other babies in there too.

These are 3 of the girls without the brother, infant is my g-child. I LOVE them!

Re: Ho do I say No?!

My DH had so little requests, that when he did speak, whatever he wanted he got. I wanted no kids, or kids in BP because I could not chose which cousin to have. There was a 5 year old on my side who is the spitting image of me, and DH decides 3 months before the wedding that he wants her to be flowergirl. I said okay, and my cousin was so happy, she fell over in shock. the rest of my cousins and family did not understand how I could do this, but it was DH's money and his day too, he would do anything for me, so if this is what he wanted, I was all for it. it worked out perfect, but still kind of sore subject in my family 2.5 years later!!!

It really has to be all or nothing. I was in the same boat as you. FH has four nieces (6-10 years old) and a nephew. They all live out of state and will be flying in for the wedding. They are the only kids attending period! My MOH (who lives OOState) will have a 14 month old daughter at that point and she is not bringing her to the wedding or ceremony. When FMIL mentioned FG and RB to me she said it wouldn't be fair to excluse any (he is Jewish so there are no Godchildren). I never envisioned my wedding having children in it. We are only having a BM and MOH so it would look stupid to have five children in it. I couldn't just pick one or two, so nothing. I told everyone, it's not appropriate considering the size of the bridal party. Also, the two oldest girls are too old to be FG's. I would also want them in certain outfits and we would have to pick up the tab for that. I did the math, it would be $1,000 approximately. No, I'd rather put it twoards something else.
