Honeymoon Registry? Anyone doing this or is This Tacky?

Original post by jessnyc711

Just would like to get everyone's feedback on the Honeymoon Registry's that I've heard of. Rather than registering for home appliances and things like that, your guests can contribute money to your honeymoon. Is this kinda tacky?

in theory it is a nice and memorable idea, but i don't think it would be well received.

I personally think it's a great idea, BUT I wouldn't do it, because I know for certain that a lot of my guests would find it tacky.

Actually what is funny is that before I ever found out about it Kevin and I would joke about how it would be cool if we could get people to buy part of our honeymoon. We are all for it. Especially if all you will be registering for otherwise is things you don't really need!

I wouldn't do it. There is no doubt it is a useful way for people to contribute gifts, but I would definitely believe many would think it was tacky. JMO

I don't think it's any tackier than any registry. And you woudln't write it on the invitation. It would be through word of mouth, like any other registry. I don't think it's any tackier than any other registry and I think it's really cool! I think I'd really be happy knowing I gave the couple a couples spa treatment or something, rather than a toaster!

I may be old fashioned, but I think it is tacky. If you don't register for gifts, some people will give you cash, which you can use however you want. I have also heard guests say that they like buying tangible gifts, so that the person will remember them when they use it. Then there are the people who get you what they want to buy and don't use the registry.

However, if you think it will be well received, go ahead and do it. I do think many of the older people will have something to say about it, so be prepared for that.

Marymoon, you are so right. Registry information should not be on the invitations anyway. I have registered on honeymoon.com as well -- I am 37, this is my third home -- FI is 38, we've both had homes and marriages before, so we need NOTHING. I am about to be buried in towels!! BUT...I haven't told anyone about my registries. If they want to know, they will ask. And THEN I will tell them.

I just got invited to a shower where they registered for the Honeymoon.
I think it' great!
They also registered at BB&B and Target.

The Honeymoon was tastefully done at The Honeymon.com
They registered for ...Dinner and drinks still asking ourselves if this real, Tahitian Feast and Polynesian Show, Meet and Greet with Flipper: 2 hr swimming adventures with dolphins of the South Pacific, Candlelit dinner beachside and tons of other cool stuff.
Defiantly thinking of doing it!

IMO, if your guest think it's tacky, maybe they don't know you well enough to know what you need or want. Like sombody else said, i'm buried in towels.... why would i ask for more towels.

in todays age you can do anything you want and i think soon, this thread is gonna turn into the thread about the morgate registry thread that happen a few months back.

don't just do it cause ppl told you not to.
you need to make a choice and stand by it
you have nothing to be offended by. There is no rule in saying what you have to register for.

I don't see that a honeymoon registery is any different then a regular registery. They are both saying this is what I would like you to get us. The idea of a registery was also a hot topic when it was first introduced, but now if you don't want to register people pressure you to do so. I was not going to register, but my MOH and BP insisted and harped on it so we finally gave in.

PS Our intention behind not registering was not to get cash. It was because we felt weird making people feel required to bring a gift.my MOH pointed out people are going to want to get us something why not let them know what you could use.

I did this as well as registering at Fortuneoff's and Bed Bath and Beyond. I booked my honeymoon at In And Out Travel. They were recommended by my hall.
I thought it was a great idea and I also thought it gives more options to people.
The travel agent made great cards to put in my shower invites just like you get from the stores when you register.

Glad to hear that other people have done this. Did you check out anyother Travel agency's besides In and Out?

I think it's a good idea! People will be contributing to the best gift you can get. I know people who have done it along with registering at traditional places and it has been well received. Most people seem to like the idea.

No, that was the only travel agent we went to. I trusted that Chateau Briand
would not recommend a bad place. If you are interested I will list the address
and phone number and the person who we worked with. I have been very happy
with thier service so far.

I like the idea and was thinking about it because we have lived together for 4 years and sure, I want to upgrade the stuff I have but I dont want people to waste their money. I think I will get a feel about what people think first though.

I wasn't a fan of this till.....

My cousin did it (honeyluna.com-sp?)BUT she is only telling it to th folks from her FI home town in IDAHO. They are all from a farm town & can't afford to come to the NY wedding or buy expensive items from Fortunoff. Most people there register at Walmart & that's not as easy (location wise) in NY.

They LOVE the fact that this registry is just for them! They feel special that they can give what they want ($ or $$$) and it kind of goes along with the 'groom's side' paying for the HM tradition. Plus she was able to break her hotel & air into the ammounts she wanted.

PS. She was surprised, she thought they'd think this was too tacky & modern.

And don't forget....there is ALWAYS SOMEone who wants to get you something 'special and personal to remember them by'...that you of course DIDN'T register for.......and you really did NOT want that ugly huge soup tureen that does not go with your place setting anyway not that you even have the space to store it!! Oh but every time you see it, you will remember aunt xxxx who just had to be original!!!
