how cheap is too cheap
so I've read on here about some girls spending over $500 on favors for guests, I was hoping to save every penny I could I was hoping for $1/ favors ish!I went to wrap with us and found great bottle opener we loved.... discontinued! so I searched again and found shot glass super supercheap on ebay that will customize them....240 for $160!!! that gives each person thier own shot glass and leaves us with like 40 or so extra. which is a waste so I started to search again..... this time for edible favors.
I thought 2 choc covered strawberries, one tuxedo one white with sparkled sprinkles ( bride and groom) fh didn't love it..... so then I said what about fortune cookie with customized fortunes? he loves it, I just priced out out on etsy, it would be about a dollar a cookie.... so its affordable....but does giving someone a single fortune cookie look really cheap?

The fortune cookie idea is such a cute idea. I know you said you wanted to keep the cost down ( believe me I hear ya,) maybe you can put something else with it like some mixed candy in one of those Chinese takeout boxes, and put two fortune cookies in it for per couple?

The m&m are so cute! You can even just buy a huge bag of Hershey kisses, the fortune cookie and put it all in a plastic gift bag with the fortune cookie sitting on top of the kisses?

yea that's what I'm thinking bc a 2lb bag of those m&m's are $60 and to fill about 100 take out boxes I'll need the 5lb bag which is $140!! that's nuts sorry! I got those for my parents anniversary party I don't remember them being that much! but I forget that was 6 years ago lol it felt like yesterday!!

I personally feel its too cheap. I plan to spend $8 per couple. Plus I also have a bunch of other extras through out the reception for our guests. People spend a lot of money to come to a wedding as a guest, I feel like they should get a little something nice in return.

thank you for. your honesty! I .was afraid people would not be honest!
I just don't want to waste money on things people won't use! some people even told me not to give anything! I was like I can't do that! half the fam don't drink much so my original thought of drink related favors ( bottle opener or shot glass) is a waste for those people. $8 is skit I def can't do that!
I'm loving the customized fortunes, how do I make it not cheap? or do u think that's not even possible? thanks for your opinion again!!!

Have you thought about a photobooth or do you want the food favor? We're doing the photobooth and the way I 'justified' it to FH was 'we can also use the photobooth as the favor' and we're going to be doing photobooth frames as well.
it ends up being a little less than 5 a person AND you also get all the photos too!

I agree with soontobemrsmango. I probably wouldn't be happy to receive just a fortune cookie as a guest, since its basically something that is free when you get takeout. But I also come from a family where christening favors are serving platters and espresso cups.

I have mixed emotions about the photobooths and using them as favors. 1. I don't want to take away from dancing 2. elder guests will get no favors, they won't use it! for that matter my dancing family members won't leave the dance floor to use it so they won't get a favoreither.
but they r so much fun and would love to have one but those cons out weigh the pros for me personally!

wow! not my fam lol we are chocolate lollipop crosses kinda people lol.
not that this makes that much of a difference but they are going to be chocolate dipped and have customized fortunes so that's why I was looking into them. I want gonna go to a Chinese place and be like can I have 200 fortune cookies lol could u imagine. so they are a little nicer then what u get free from take out.
again I love this idea, so how do I make it not look cheap?

If you go with the cookies I think it's all about presentation... You can DIY custom tags with a little cute saying and your names, tied with a ribbon to match your colors, etc

Wonton Foods in Brooklyn does custom fortune cookies for 30 cents per cookie for orders between 200 to 399.http://www.wontonfood.com/CFC.htm
And Wholsale Fortune Cookies has all kinds of different flavors.
http://wholesalefortunecookies.com/
And these take out boxes are pretty but pricy, http://www.beau-coup.com/baby/takeout_boxes.htm?utm_source=amazonproductads&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=3301&utm_campaign=amazonproductads&gdftrk=gdfV2692_a_7c814_a_7c3260_a_7c3301
Although you could DIY them for much less, plain takeout boxes are 16.00 per hundred on amazon.

I got little bags from Etsy that said Mr & Mrs ($1 each) and filled them with Hershey kisses (5 x 5lb bag from Sams Club). All together for 200 guests it was about $150. We also made a donation to the 'Catch a Dream' foundation in honor of our guests.
I think that is a lovely idea, especially when it is a charity that means a lot to you.

I like the idea! I agree with some of the other posters that you should include a little something else (such as candy). It is all about presentation! My favors are going to be candy put into inexpensive Mason jar mugs. We are personalizing them with tags and/or stickers. It goes with our theme and the our guests like it!
As long as it is in something you are happy with and something you think your guests will enjoy I wouldn't worry too much about the cost!

I think the fortune cookie idea is so cute! I honestly didn't think about how much I was spending per person on favors and when I go to weddings half the time I forget to take them with me. If you're looking to save money someplace I don't see why favors can't be one of them.

what about some chocolates?? My sisters did dark and milk chocolate in the shape of leaves (she had a fall wedding) and they weren't that expensive. I know she got them from Chocolate Works in Valley Stream... great company! Hope that helps!Welcome New Vendors
