I used to work in NYC (have since left to work closer to home). Our office had their Christmas party every year and my boyfriend would meet up with me in the city afterwards and we'd take in the sights of Rockefeller Center at Christmas time. In December of 2000, nothing seemed unusual as we met after the Christmas party. We toured St. Patrick's to stay warm (it was a cool 10 degrees!!). We took a horse and carriage ride which I thought odd because he never would spend that kind of money for a 20 minute ride around the block behind a smelly horse). Then we went to see the tree and watch the ice-skaters. I was snapping pictures of the tree and he was behind me. When I turned around to ask him if we should have someone take our picture, he was on his knee asking me to marry him.... in front of a billion people.

We had some of those people take our picture. We called our parents and everything. It was a night to remember. I got home and was so excited we had pictures to prove it, and when I layed my camera down on the table, I noticed the counter was still on S. Turns out the film wasn't loaded correctly and all the pictures were taken and the film never advanced!!

Oh, just wanted to add. My engagement ring belonged to his great grandmother. It is so pretty!

Am I the only one that forced it out of him??? I knew we were getting engaged because my parents are in the jewelry business and he had to talk to them for the ring. He was too much of a puss to talk to my dad alone so we went out to dinner with my parents to tell them. So, we picked out a ring and I was just waiting for my dad to get the mounting and side stones. This was right before christmas and I knew the whole industry was closing down the friday before and the ring had to be done by then. Everyday, I would come home from work and get really excited and think this was the day and then nothing would happen and I would get really upset. Finally, I just bluffed and said 'I know you have the ring so why don't you just do it already'. He fell for it and got the ring, got down on his knee and proposed. He had made plans to go into the city and go ice skating and see the tree and all that, but hey - I just couldn't wait that long

P.S. Aren't I a romantic?

Well, you've all seen in previous posts that I moved to California to be with my hubby before he became my hubby.

So, six months after we moved in together, we were planning a quick trip to Vegas for the weekend. My hubby's sister was going to be in Vegas for a work-related convention, and since she lives in Atlanta, and we don't get to see her very often, we decided to go just for fun.
We were flying there right after work on a Friday. It was in March 2000, during March Madness, so the ENTIRE strip was booked and we had to stay 14 miles away at the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas (where America's Sweethearts with John Cusack and Julia Roberts was later filmed). Anyway, we check in and completely CRASH from exhaustion. I was very slow to get out of bed on Saturday morning, and didn't even notice how antsy DH was.
We had brunch, sat out by the pool, and decided to rent a paddle boat and go for a little spin around Lake Las Vegas.
Well, all the boats were rented, and we had to wait 30 minutes. What to do? Gamble! We walk into the casino, and DH throws some coins into the slots and immediately wins $250. Wow, what a nice surprise!

Okay, then we get the boat, and DH has his backpack with him. At this point, I hadn't even noticed that he had it with him every where we went! Then, Brad the boat boy told DH that he'd have to place the backpack behind his seat in order to use the steering mechanism properly. DH's face dropped. He then asked me to keep my hand on it so it wouldn't fall in the lake. I suggest leaving it behind, and he nearly turned white as a ghost! I am still not catching on...so he makes up some excuse about his camera being in the bag.

Okay, so we paddle out into the middle of the lake when I say that I want to take a break and just float around in the beautiful blazing sunshine. About a minute after we stopped pedaling, he started saying all these sweet romantic things, and then asked me to marry him. I said yes immediately and began to cry. He pulled the ring from the backpack and slipped it on my finger. When we returned to shore, Brad the boat boy became the first to know of our engagement (we still laugh about this today!)

My FH made a beautiful Easter basket with a bunch of the little plastic eggs in it. He filled the eggs with M&Ms, Skittles, Jelly Beans, and his moms (now my) engagement ring. When I asked him what was in the eggs, he told me to open them. I didnt find it the first time. So he picked up the egg with the ring, (to make sure it was still there) and put it back, telling me I must have missed something. So I opened them all again, leaving the one he touched for last. Inside the ring was wrapped in tissue. At this point, I had an idea what he was doing, and I was shaking. As I opened the wrapping, I could tell it was a ring and I began crying - He asked me if I would marry him, and I cried, and said of course. He obviously had been planning it for a while, because he had gotten the ring from his sister when we saw her for Thanksgiving. (I cant believe he waited so long!!!) He told me later on that it had been his mothers ring. Needless to say, that just made me cry again!!

We went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants. He told me to 'look nicer' than usual, which I thought was odd. FH was very fidgity all throughout dinner.

Halfway through he asks me if I want to go to the beach and watch the sunset. It was late April '01 and it was really warm outside. Watching the sunset was something I always wanted to do, but everytime I asked FH blew me off. So again, this was odd. I knew by this point, something was up.

He proposed at Jones Beach as we walked along the beach. It was perfect and so is he!

My FH popped the question on a whirlwind... all week long he was acting so weird, and kept insisting on going to the beach, but I explained that the beach is closed in March. (He is from NYC), so , as a decoy he invited his friend Nick over and I was thinking ok maybe it is not the nite he is going to propose, so his friend had to leave due to a family emergency and he went out to the car and gave me a dozen red roses, and said Happy 27 month anniversary, I was like-okay thanks- we never celebrate by the month anymore, so we went to dinner and I was thinking wow, I have to do somehting so I paid for dinner, thinking we were 'even' on the anniversary thing. He then took me to the duckpond in Wantagh were he first kissed me 27 months before and he was acting kind of strange. He then pulled out a box, and gave me another present of a watch and said happy 27 month anniversary, I was like okay when is this going to stop, all these gifts? Not that I did not like it, but I kept getting presents, and felt bad because I did not give him a present. Then he asked me what a watch does, and I replied, tells time, and he got down on his hand and knee and proposed, we went home and we called his mom to tell her and then he gave me my ring which was my moms ring, she had passed on, and I was crying and got no sleep that night!

Nov. 2001 we took a mini vacation up to Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz. We got there on Thursday night, and he had planned to do it that night b/c he was so excited. Well, the heater was broken in our room ( this hotel is over 100 yrs old) so it was like 90 degrees in the room! We were both hot and agitated, so he waited. The next morning we went on a guided hike, and they were pointing out this mountain top tower. He was like... lets go up there right after this. Me, of course, was like what is the rush we are here all weekend! We ended up going. I was panting and sweating and complaining the whole way up there. By the time we got to the base of the tower, I was beat. I wanted to sit and rest. He wanted to hurry up to the top of the tower. It was small up there, and there were some people up there so we waited until they were gone and climbed up. As I was snapping pictures of the view of 4 states, he says to me... 'Kristine, come here.' So I did, and he says ' you know I love you right?' and he gives me the tightest hug. I say 'of course, I love you too' then he says 'I have to ask you a question' and he gets down on one knee and fumbles for the ring box in his jacket while he asks me. As he opened the box of the ring, the sun hit the diamond, and I was blown away. I say'is this for real????' forgetting to say yes! He goes, 'aren't you going to say yes?' Of course I did, and we will be married now in 9 weeks. It was the most romantic thing ever!

My FI proposed on Feb. 16th 2002 (Valentine's Day Weekend). We went away that weekend to Montauk. On Saturday the 16th we went out to dinner and he told me to dress a little dressy. I kind of figured something was up. The whole evening we talked and laughed. We started to talk to a engaged couple who was sitting behind us, who was thinking of having their wedding at this restaurant. What I did not know was that when I got up to go to the restroom, he told the couple behind us and all the waitress (who had already known since when he made the reservation he told what he was going to do). After I came out of the bathroom, he told me to turn around and close my eyes. So I did and then he told me to open them and when I did there he was on one knee with the box opened. He said will you marry me, I orginial said no (I guess I was more embarressed then anything else) but then I told him I was kidding and said of course I will marry you. We then hugged and kissed. I did not cry then but when we got back to our room and celebrated this ourselves, then I cried.
