How did he propose??

Hey ladies - i thought we should share our proposal stories since we are the newest bunch!!

I was reading some in another post and they always make me cry!

So post your proposal stories here!!

*I will add mine later, I am sneaking at work so I want to give it my full attention, i love telling it!!!*

So it was a Sunday and FH was on his way home from upstate (where he's originally from) and called to say that he was going to swing by my parents house to pick up the a/c (little did I know... he was really going to ask my parents' permission).
When he got home we were just sitting around talking about our weekends when he came over out of nowhere and starting hugging me (mushy mushy). I told him that as much as I love when he goes away because it give me some alone time, as soon as he walks out the door I want him to come back because I already miss him so much. He then asked me to promise him that we'd never go anywhere without each other ever again... of course I promised... we pinky promised actually and as our pinkies were locked he asked me to make him another promise and that's when he got down on one knee and pulled the box out of his pocket... I FREAKED OUT! I was a sobbing mess and while he was asking, our dog was jumping all over him kinda killing the moment.
I love that he asked on some random day in our living room... it was intimate and special for us and I wouldn't change a thing. I still get butterflies when I think about that very moment!

It was Feb. 10, 2006 and FH told me at Christmas that his parents had gotten us tickets to go see Phantom of the Opera as a gift. I had already seen the play twice before and FH once before but it's our favorite show.

02/10/06 rolls around and I realize that it's his mother's b-day. FH always told me he wouldn't propose on a day that was associated with anything else cause he wanted it to be 'a day all to itself.' So of course I'm not thinking that would be the night he is going to ask!

We get to the theater and for those of you who have seen the play you will know what I'm talking about but I'll explain for everyone else. Right before the curtain closes for intermission, the two main character sing a love song to each other called 'All I ask of you.' It's a VERY sweet song and as they were singing it on stage FH was whispering the words to me. Unfortunately though I'm a very self conscious person at times and all I could think of was that he was being really loud and the peole around us were going to get annoyed! I really wish I would have just enjoyed that moment now when I think back on it but it makes me laugh when I think about it cause I just wanted to be quiet!


So anyways....the curtains close, the lights go out and when they come back on he was on one knee infront of me asking me to marry him right there in the middle of the theater! Everyone clapped and I cried. It was great!

When I called home to tell my mother (who already knew - FH had asked them because he knew that was important to me) - she told me to call my friends cause they were the only ones who didn't know and invite them to the surprise party that was all set and planned for the next night!

I have to say it was the greatest weekend of my like thus far! I think the only thing that will top it is the wedding!
p.s. - the next night was the night of the record breaking blizzard! But the party still went on and mostly everyone still came!

A total stranger started taking pictures when he realized what was going on so we have picture from when FH asked me in the theater. I'll post the pic's when I get home cause I can't do it at work.

A lil background History:

Our friends introduced us while i was still going out with someone else. Although i was planning on breaking up anyway. A week later I broke up with the other guy. So Brian knowing that i just got out of a relationship didn't want to me to rush into anything so we were just 'dating' for a month. Then on November 29th he asked me to be his girlfriend, i said yes. Our first official date was on the first friday of Decembe. We went ice skating at Central Park and to see the Rockefeller Cristmas Tree. A week later when he told me he loved me he said he realized it when we were ice skating. Now i am horrible at ice skating and spent the whole night on my butt..so i don't know how that did it for him So since then, Every first friday of December we go ice skating and to see the Tree.

The Proposal: Christmas Eve

I had always told him that when he did it, i didn't want it to be on a holiday so i wasn't thinking anything of it. He was freaking out the week earlier because of the transit strike and he didn't know how we would get there.I kept saying it wasn't a big deal, why do we have to go that night.. And he said because its important to you (I used to go ever Christmas Eve with my family to go see the Tree). Although i told him i didnt care, he kept pressing the issue. So on Christmas eve with the trains working we head into the city. We first go to Central Park. I had told him i didn't want to go ice skating because we didn't have much time in the city since we had to get to my family's house. I think he was a little disappointed and thats how he would've done it. But we went to the observation deck of the rink. I was over the railing and he was standing behind me hugging me. He asked if this is somewhere we would want to take our kids one day and i said that would be nice. With that he turned me around and said speaking of the future, will you Marry me?

we were on our third cruise together. we decided to do a shore excursion to St Johns, Turnk Bay when we reached St thomas because we had been there together already. So, we were on an hour yacht ride over to Trunk bay and I was just bumming it. It was May 31st and it was WEdnesday which meant our trip was 1/2 over =(
So we get to the beach and were laying on the sand when it was already 3:34 (exact) that they called for everyone to get back to the yacht. He quicked like jumped up and said, 'Let's go take a picture by those rocks' and I was like whyyyy we have to go and he said cmon....so we went over there and I snapped a pic of him and he snapped a pic of me and said hold on he had to put something away. So I am like freakin a lil bit out the boat makin sure it doesnt leave us. He hands me all the crap in his bag and with all that crap was the ring box but I didnt pay attention. So since I didnt catch on he asked for it all back and when he got hold of the ring he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!! I asked 'Are you sure?!' and he said of course. Funny thing he busted his knee on the rocks as he went down and had a 'love bruise' the rest of the trip!

As you may have read he wanted to do it while we were parasailing but he struggled with the ring while up in the air! AHHHH imagine he dropped it! <3

He wanted to do it on this vacation because with saving it would have been our last until the honeymoon! He is soooo awesome. <3

ps those stories almost made me cry!!! and I am at work! No crying at work allowed....i got a lil teary eyed...

I LOVE WEDDINGS! PROPOSALS EVERYTHING!

For Christmas 05 I bought my FH an all expense paid weekend vacation to go to Kentucky to see Thunder over Louisville the biggest fireworks show in the world. My FH is a fireworks fanatic! We stayed there for the weekend but the actual show was on April 22, 2006. So the 4 of us (him, me, his sister Nicole and our friend Mike) were watching the show and I'm video taping it. Right before the huge finale his sister goes to me 'Meliss why don't you give me the video camera so you can watch some of the show and your arm doesn't get too tired'. So I gave her the camera and she's taping the fireworks but she's looking through her bag at the same time and moving the video camera all around. I'm thinking to myself why did she ask to video tape it if she's gonna not do a good job I didn't say anything then two seconds later Nicole go's 'Meliss'...so I turn around and she faced the video camera toward me (I'm like huh ) and Rocco kneels down and there was a gorgeous ring and he asked me to marry him. My eyes were like uncontrollable water works lol, but it was perfect timing during the fireworks finale. Then everyone around us started clapping! Although I wish someone would have warned me because I didn't even bother to blow dry my hair and just kinda threw on a sweatshirt cause it was cold out. I have a few pictures...don't mind the ring on the wrong hand we were both so nervous we didn't realize till like an hour later

Sorry so long, I get excited when talking about how he proposed!!!!

FH and I went to ENgland for our anniversary, the night of our anniversary was very romantic so I was thinking it was the perfect set-up for him to propose but he didn't (danm him).
A week later we went to visit one of the castles in London (king Henry VIII) at the end of the tour he told me that he forgot to take my picture in there, so he'll just do it outside in the garden.
when we got outside i'm posing waiting for my picture and he kept telling me to come closer. so I cought my attitude and said forget it (eventhough I still moved closer to him lol ). Instead of the flash from the camera, he blinded me with the most beautiful ring ever and asked me to marry him.

yeah I cried especially when everyone around started awwing and clapping.

ok ladies i am crying here! THANK GOD I am reading this at HOME! I am so glad I started this thread and I am so happy all of you had such wonderful and UNIQUE proposals!!


Okay some background - FH could never talk about the future, kids marriage NOTHING and it always upset me since my friends could talk to their boyfriends about it all the time. . . a few months before he proposed I asked him when he thought it would happen and he told me in about 5 years ( we were together for almost 8 years at the time) so i said ok i love you i will wait for you . . . then went home woke up my mom and cried until the morning ( he never knew that part)

dec 23 he asks my parents. . .

so FH is a mess on Christmas Eve - i mean just a big mess. . .we had been fighting all week bc he kept saying he was 'out shopping' but i buy all of his family's gifts so i was like 'why are you shopping like 10 days just for my gifts' - he he i am such a witch. . . . now we are waiting all night to exchange presents and FINALLY at like 11pm his family starts exchanging gifts but he wants to do it in private. . .i thought bc there was a victoria's secret box so i think ok no big deal - i open up a few cute gifts and he tells me he has one more. . .and it is this book made out of construction paper. . .each page has a line and a picture. . . now i make him gay stuff like this all the time so i thought FINALLY he made me something cheesy/. . . here is what the book said. . .

and on the last page there was no picture and it said: And this is when i asked you to be my. . . .

and he was down on one knee holding the ring!!!!!!!!!

so i freak out hyperventilating and crying and he is like are you going to say yes are you going to look at the ring??? so i finally said YES! and looked at the ring!!

and then we went out to his family and announced the good news! and we ran over to my family who was waiting for us!

it was by far the best night of my life! sorry this is so long - i actually just cut out like 3 paragraphs i got a little too excited!

So I must say with sincereity that my FH is not the hopless fairy tale romantic that so many of you have met.

Saturday.. April 22.. I am over his house.. which is unusual because Sat. are his day. So, his phone rings.. and Im thinking 516 number I am not answering it. So, he does... goes across the hall and starts talking it up. Then.. he proceeds to tell me that his friend needs him to go and get his car yada yada. .and not thinking much I say ok. WELL 3 HOURS LATER he comes back.. I am pissed. I go to yell at him at the top of the stairs as he is running back up... and he comes in the room going ... I love you... all this stuff I cannot remember and just proposed. THIS IS HIM. Although I LOVE all of your stories.. he just isnt that type of man. I just hope one day Ill have a story like this hahaha.. but it won't be my proposal. I THINK he was just so excited and proud of the ring.. he needed me to have it then!

but that is what is soo great about all of these stories - they are all so unique and special!

for example a friend of mine recently got engaged and her FH planned a suprise 3 day vacation in FL. for them and proposed while they were there- he must have been planning for MONTHS. . . but that is his personality so it was perfect

My FH - on the other hand - is much more impulsive, so the first time he ever went to look for rings was 10 days before Christmas ( just to look, nothing more) THAT DAY he finds my ring, refuses to look elsewhere and BEGS the guy to have it ready for him in time to propose on dec 24th! ( i found this out from my cousin's husband who went with him)

THEN a few nights before he did it - i fell asleep at his house and he told me later that he kept taking the ring out and showing it to me in my sleep and he almost woke me up right then to ask me but he hadn't asked my parents yet!!

its so great bc the proposals are so genuine!

My FH took me for my b-day to punta cana. The day we arrived he proposed in our suite next to the jacuzzi. That night he mad reservations at the restaurant to celebrate my b-day and engagement..
