I am curious to know how people feel about Sunday weddings.
I know a Saturday night is ideal, but it's starting to bother me that I'd have to pay a premium for essentially the same service.
If we had it on a Sunday, we'd start a bit earlier and maybe do a 5pm CH and end the party at 10, so people can still get home at a reasonable hour. (Current plan was 6-11 or 6:30-11:30 for Sat night) It would be easier to book our church, too, as the demand is lower. We'd also be able to start the ceremony at almost any time we want because we wouldn't have to be working around the Saturday 5pm mass... (Latest we could have the ceremony would be like 3 or 3:30 which leaves 3 hours before the CH starts...)
We'd also easily be able to afford our dream place, instead of paying more than we really want to... It's still in our budget to afford this place on a Sat night, but we're REALLY trying not to go broke over this wedding. We want to buy a home and still have a life and be able to go out, etc. between now and the wedding...
As far as OOT guests, the way I see it is that they take the same amount of time off of work (Instead of having to take Friday off, they'd have to take Monday)... Most of our parents friends (and our parents) are or will be retired by then.
Anyway, this was the latest suggestion, so I'd like to get an honest gage from people. I've never been to a Sunday wedding, so I'm curious to hear from those who have. Did people *really* not have as much fun b/c of work the next day?
Any thoughts would be appreciated - and please be honest. I won't be offended if you think it's a bad idea. I really want to weigh the pros and cons!
TIA!

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
I went to a Sunday night wedding, and I felt like everyone was ready to go right after cake. I know for myself it didn't start until 6, and having class the next day it was rough!!!! I prefer friday nights over sunday nights

We are doing a Sunday-but it is the Sunday before Columbus day so most of our guests have off-otherwise we wouldn't have picked a Sunday. My brother is getting married on 07/03/07. This is a Tuesday-but it is the night before the 4th of July and most people have off on the 4th-so they got an AMAZING deal for having it on a Tuesday-just a thought since I saw your date was in July.
Im getting married on 10/7 also!
Im having a 'twilight' starting at 4 so even if people dont have off the next day they wont be exhausted. Sunday weddings are really popular with my friends, at least half of them have had Sunday twilight or evening weddings (b/c sat night weddings can start really late due to religious reasons, which is why I picked sunday) . Nobody ever left early and the party didnt feel any different b/c it was a sunday, just as fun and lively as a sat! Also, if you book a twilight wedding, you can wind up with the RH to yourself, since they cant book an evening or morning wedding.

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
Sat night was way too expensive for us. We did Sat afternoon.
I personally think Sun is fine for a wedding... I know some churches frown on Sun weddings, since it is afterall their busy day.... but if you aren't Christian, or you are not getting married in a church, why not? I think Sun weddings should end earlier so guests can get back to work.... since I like afternoon receptions, that would be ideal in my book.
Friday weddings are more difficult in my opinion, especially if all your family / friends don't live near by. They'd be forced to take time off from work, and they'd have to battle traffic when travelling....
Of course, this really depends upon who's invited... lots of young people, late is great, many early birds / older people, you really should be done prior to 10pm....

i'm having a sunday night wedding and the same questions ran thru my head too... i figured its the summer and people take off anyway and work for most people is slow during that time... who goes to bed early during the summer months, especially on the w/end??? you cant go wrong with any day... go with what you feel.. your guests will come regardless of what day you choose... and people generally leave after the cake anyway... thats just the way it goes!

Totally agree with your thinking. I might consider a Friday night before a Sunday night. That way anyone traveling would have the rest of the weekend and those party animals will have to time 'sleep things off'. I also think Saturday afternoon is a good idea. Those prices usually drop significantly and you could always do an after hours get together or something like that. I think Sunday night would be my last choice, but I don't hate the idea. I think that the people that are going to come to your wedding will still want to take part in your special day no matter the day or the time and you are right that people could take off Monday instead of Friday.

Listen to me.... don't you worry about anyone coming or not coming because of the day - if they want to be there, they will find a way, whether it's Friday, Saturday, Sunday or a Wednesday like we did it! Weddings are so expensive and that's why we chose the day before thanksgiving last year which happened to be a Wednesday - everyone showed up!

Yup, and Friday or Sat night is still in the running, too... just looking at our options re: Sunday, too, b/c of the cost of Sat night.
Saturday afternoon isn't an option - we don't want the wedding to be that early + we want the RD the night before b/c of our OOT BP members.
ETA - everyone's different perspectives are very helpful!
If Saturday night is still an option, you should just go for it. IMHO Friday weddings generally people are tired from work, and not as many people attend the church. And then on Sunday, sometimes people are looking to leave right after the cake because of work the next day. BUT...no matter what day you have it on the people closest to you will not miss a minute.

Yeah, I know... it's my first choice and my FI's first choice, too.
We just have have other financial priorities besides the wedding (as does everyone) and feel we at least needed to consider other options. Just because we could afford it doesn't mean it's the wisest financial decision for us. It'll probably wind up being Saturday night regardless, because it is the most convenient for all, but we owe it to our bank accounts to consider other options, too.
But it'll probably be Sat night... After all this!
I'll let you know when we book - hopefully soon if the church ever calls us back!

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
we had a sunday - day wedding. dh and i wanted a beach wedding, and we didnt want to do a 3pm ceremony cause it is so hot on the beach at 3pm.
the place we booked didnt have the sat available so we did the sunday july 2- we had a 10 am ceremony before it got too hot and a 1pm cocktail hour. it was over by 6:30- it was great..
it all worked out wonderfully.
oh and because of the holiday weekend, the prices only varied by i think 3 dollars a head..

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
Honestly I am not a big fan of weddings on Fridays or Sundays. I really prefer Saturday weddings. I feel it makes it easier for people. Not everyone can easliy take a day off from work, when the wedding is on a Friday.

Ours was a Sunday afternoon - ceremony started at 11:30 am. I would have preferred to start at 1 or so but it worked out nicely. We got great outdoor shots.

Assuming you decide against the saturday night wedding, I personally prefer a Sunday evening wedding (which is what we chose) to a Friday evening wedding for the following reasons:
1. I don't have to rush home/leave early from work to get to the church or RH (assuming it is not a close friend)
2. If the wedding is a good friend's, I would rather take the following Monday off from work to recover from partying than take the Friday off to prep for the party that evening
3. I think more guests would be able to attend the church/ceremony on a Sunday than on a Friday since most people work (some of our guests are blue collar workers and have to work saturdays as well)
Like the other posters above said...the people who truly want to be at your wedding and enjoy won't be sticklers about the day you choose. They will come and have a great time. If the sticklers start complaining once they realize what day your event is, they should stay home because why would you want people like that to participate on your special day.
Remember people always complain and unfortunately no matter how hard you try you can't make everyone happy....I am coming to slowly realize that myself.
Hope that helped!
I am having a Sunday wedding - and I agree w/ everything you wrote!!

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
I'm having a Sunday wedding not by choice. It was the only day between all of Sept. & Oct. I see it as people know pretty much months in advance so if they want to come they will be there regardless of what day it is. If you think about it most people are up at 11 pm anyway. I work in a salon so i work during the weekends. I don't recall anyone asking me if I minded going to their affair on a Fri. or Sat. Do what ever makes the two of u happy.

Re: how do you feel about sunday weddings?
My wedding was on a Sunday night and it ended at midnight
Honestly, I don't think it would have mattered if it was on a Tuesday - EVERYONE stayed the entire night and partied.
I've been to several Sunday night weddings and had the same experience - everyone stayed and had a good time. Honestly, weddings are just as much fun any day of the week!

I'm having a Sunday wedding. I just couldn't get around paying more for the same thing one day earlier! I feel like guests know about your wedding suffiently in advance to plan ahead.
