Re: How do you Know???
Definitely try Sunset Harbour in East Patchogue and Stuart Thomas Manor in Farmingdale... you can almost definitely get around $65pp for a Saturday Night at both those places.
Those wedding sites and services magazines don't give you the whole story when they give that price range. For example, when it says: $45 - $125 that means that MAYBE on a Monday Night in January it is $45pp. The upper range is usually for a Saturday night in a prime month.
Good luck!

Re: How do you Know???
I think the first thing that you really need to do is to make a draft on a count of your guest list. This will give you a sense of the place that you are looking for and it is one of the first questions caterers ask. Like everyone else said, you can probably get something for this price range if you book in off months. I'd try in that price range: Westbury Manor (I got quoted $55 here for off months and it is a nice place if you like Old World look). Leonards Manor East Chateu La Mer George Washington Manor Swan Club Coral House
Good Luck on your search and Welcome to the boards.

Re: How do you Know???
Try Leonards - they gave us a $60 quote, but that was for a Sunday.
Also, try August if you want it in the summer - at some places it's cheaper than September. Also, try January, right after the New Year - you'll probably have the whole place to yourself!

Re: How do you Know???
definitely look at the off season months of Nov-February or March
We did a Sat afternoon wedding (11:30am ceremony) at Timber Point and it was only $53 pp (before taxes...after taxes it jumped to around $70 something)
Try some of the smaller or lesser known halls, or even a restaurant that has a large room
