In all honesty, it doesn't matter where you saw this lady. It is her choice to wear what she likes or what she feels comfortable wearing.

When they post about inappropriate attire at work, it is in regards to dress codes or appropriate things to wear in the office. Unless there is a specific dress code for backyards this does not compare. Also, they were not looking to approach these people and tell them their outfits were not o.k. for them to wear because of their size, which is what you are looking to do.
How you can think that would not hurt that persons feeling is beyond me.

Also, I am sorry, but if someone told you you did not look suitable in something this post would have been about what nerve that person had for saying that to you.

Ummmmnnn, no.

Bad taste and classless come to mind when I think of telling someone they don't look right (even if they do look questionable). If she wants to make poor judgements about her clothing, that's her business. No need to hurt her feelings - what exactly will you accomplish by that?

I wouldn't say anything. It will just make her feel bad.

Shamma: those are some beautiful quotes and I believe sage words to live by. Instead of wasting time responding to this thread, I suggest that everyone read Shamma's enlightening post and stop this silliness.

exactly..we can joke around about the people at the office, etc but I would NEVER EVER say something to anyone right to their face.

It's just not right and I wasn't raised that way. 'Nuff said.

Gee... look at all the excitement on this board...sorry T I would have to say it's none of anyone's business how this woman dresses and not your place to say so.

I too was raised with 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'

Re: How do you tell someone their body isn't?

Im sorry but I have to be honest here. I dont think I would say anything just because I wouldnt want to hurt someones feelings but it annoys me when people choose this and then they think they look good in it..its conceited and I cant even fathom being like that.

I recently encountered a situation like this. A 'friend' who thinks shes all that who tells me that I cant wear a two piece, told me that she bought a very skimpy 2 piece for her trip to puerto rico. So i was like oh thats nice but thinking wow. She didnt leave it at that though..she has to go on saying how shes gonna look gorgeous in it, how all the guys are gonna flock to her..if you saw this girl, omg, you would know why these commesnts are annoying. To me, its the attitude that goes along with the wearing of the 2 piece that you shouldnt be wearing. Its one thing to choose what you want to wear, its another to be sooooooooooo totally conceited about it and put others down in the meanwhile.

My 16 year old brother handled te situation for me though (she is mean to him and he doesnt like her)..he simply said...I feel bad for Puerto Rico. I think it was funny.

Since this thread came back today, I actually envy people that can wear what ever they want with confidence. I may or may not think it looks good, flattering or appropriate but I think it's awsome to have that 'to h ell what everyone else thinks, I think I look good' attitude.

I have to agree with not saying anything to her.

Obviously, when she put it on she felt okay about wearing it, or she would have put something else on.

Whether or not it was appropriate for the situation is another matter. It doesn't sound like the suit was appropriate, but it's still not anyone else's place to point that out to her. I mean, who determines what's appropriate anyway?

I can see Theresa's point, though, in wanting to tell someone they are pushing the limits of good taste. It's almost like you feel embarassed for them. But even so, it's a very delicate situation and I don't think there's any way to do it without hurting their feelings.

Personally, if I'm going to be in a bathing suit at someone else's house, I go for a one-piece with lots of coverage! Sometimes I'll top if off with a long T-shirt!!! And I'm in good shape. I just feel it's more appropriate to leave a little to the imagination around family and friends. But that's me. I can't and don't expect others to share my
modesty.

In the Big Picture, what does it really matter what someone wears?

Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry - I have to say something to this post it was bothering me all night yesterday.

Why would you want to intentionally hurt someones feelings like this? It's one thing if you were just making a joke about it to one of your friends or something fine no one is a saint - but to say that you definatly are telling her. Dont be suprised if you cant live with yourself after you see the hurt in her eyes.

I've been on both sides of the weight fence - you know whene I've been the happiest ? When I'm trying to be beautiful on the inside as well as the outside - just some 'food' for thought.

I am not a skinny girl, and i would be so hurt by this.. let me tell you of my experience..

About a couple of weeks ago, i was running late for work and i was going out to lunch with my boss, and i just grabbed this dress from the closet and it felt a little tight but i was so late that i didnt really have much time at home after i put it on... so i get to work and i feel very self concious cause now i notice that its not 'for me' to wear, but hell i was already at work so what could i do.. well i went out for a smoke break and these young very 'thin' girls were outside too and they were looking at eachother and then looking at me and then they were laughing at me, i felt so horrible i didnt know what to do... i felt like just falling down and crying and yelling im sorry we cant all be a size two and i was friggin late you *****es!!!! but i went back to my desk and sat there feeling more horrible than i ever have and then it got so bad that i got in my car and speeded home and changed and came back, hoping no one would know i was gone and i wouldnt be in trouble, and if i was how would i explaing this? ' oh im sorry i had to go home cause the girls downstairs were laughing at the big ol fat me???'

Well to be honest whenever i see those girls those feelings come back and it makes me feel really sad, and no matter what happens it will always remind me of this... I dont think that anyone no matter what they have done aside from murder should ever feel like that.. overweight women are put through enough crap in our society and if you are confident which most of us ARE NOT, then all the power to you and i dont think that anyone should say anything to anyone about their weight... that hits a nerve that can bring someone to a sprialing depression...
