how does your FH feel about having babies?

Original post by Espo22

Ok so yesterday i was surprised...at dinner don't remember what we were talking about but FH said 'oh you'll probably get pregnant during the HM' i said ha lets not plan anything, dont you want to wait? and he said no i wouldn't mind having a honeymoon baby. Now let me just say that we discussed this before and we both just agreed to not plan for anything. I said after 2 years we'll try, hes like thats long, maybe by 2009 to already be pregnant and if anything by the 2nd year have it...He also then said hey i wouldn't care if we had one now . I didn't even know what to say.

I want kids badly but i also thought we should wait a little bit lol. Who knew he had the itch

Oh and then he also told me i have to get pregnant May 29 2010 or 2011 i forgot so this way we have have a leap year baby lol...so on top of that im supposed to be popping one out after another

ETA: the part about him not caring if we had one now was just to show he really is ready and doesn't want to wait too long AFTER the wedding, no real intentions to have a kid now or him wanting to try for one before the wedding and i wont even consider it lol

Wow Denise same thing happen to me. FH called a told me he was having baby fever. I thought we decided to wait 2 years but he's feeling it now. I just basically reminded him that we are not ready.

i can see why you'd be .lol but at the same time that's really sweet that he's excited about it like that. a lot of guys really want to wait!!!! and this way if it does happen, or you decide you want one sooner he'll be thrilled about it!!!

Fh def. wants to wait just a lil while until we are both financially stable cause right now we are both kind of in between jobs.. well he's not but he doesn't have to work full time right now cause they aren't busy enough.. so he doesn't feel ready to support a baby in that sense...but if we both had great jobs.. i think he'd be all for it. By the tim we get married we'll be together 5yrs and have lived together almost 4 of them.. so it's not like we haven't had time together..lol.

I'm also only 23 and still have a year of school left. I don't know where this baby fever came from.

FH is definitely in the minority here but he really doesn't care about having kids. I honestly think that if i told him tomorrow that i never wanted to have kids he would be okay with it. On the other hand, he would be happy to start a family with me. . .

i dont know if this makes sense. But we have seriously discussed never having kids and we are kind of okay with that but we also want a family LOL i guess we are just going to try and leave it in God's hands and whatever He decides we will be thankful.

We are just so horrified with how kids behave today that it makes us not want to have to deal with it but then again we know that our own kids would never be like that.

I can see your point tilde. But dont let the behavior of other peoples children be the reason not to have kids. for the most part, being a teacher, you seet hat those kids who behave that way, do so because of their parents and the way they were brought up. You have a great head on your shoulders, you seem to have a stable family (from what ive read on here) and your FH is a great person. So right there you are ahead of the game. Look at what a great person you and FH are... your children will be that way if you raise them that way.

I think its really cute when FHs are looking forward to kids.

Denise, it sounds like it has clicked for him and he is thinking of the next step after marriage. haha

I know FH wants kids, (probably more than me), but we are waiting until we can buy a house. Probably like a year after we are married.

FH has always had baby fever, since I met him. He says it's because he's an only child. I had a little bit of baby fever because I did my maternity rotation in nuring school and the babies are sooo adorable! But once the semester was over I came back to earth and realized we need to get settled first. Probably 1-2 years. We'd like to save up and put a DP on a house first.

wait i should say that FH said he wouldn't care if we had one now but we do want to wait until after the wedding, he just said that to show his point i think lol.

thank you so much for taking the time to write this - that was really sweet of you

i completely understand what you are saying. . . of course we wouldn't let how other people raise their kids make our decision for us but it IS discouraging! obviously we have to look at many other factors as well!

FH wants kids more than I do!

hahahaha i remember you saying this before, have you two come to a compromise lol

I want children definately but there are other things I want in life as well as a family. Plus being 23 and just finishing school and starting a career I just don't have baby on the brain 24/7. It will happen but I have to be ready. It's a 24 hour job and I just have to be able to be selfless or at least not selfish! I still think of myself as a kid sometimes!

oh you're younger though so yeah wait. Enjoy this time. See this is why im confused, i do want to wait and enjoy married life but then i think of my age and have to say to myself ok you want 3 or 4 kids and want to start at what age? so its different.

You don't have to start right away either. A coworker waited a few months after getting married this way they still had the first year of marriage to spend just the two of them for the most part.

oh def waiting until after the wedding, maybe a year instead of 2 years...ok i should edit my first post, i think its throwing ppl off thinking he wants kids right now or that im thinking about it, trust me i am not

We have 4 children. I have 2, he has 1 and we have 1 together. So, we both agreed that we are done.

I agree, you come from old family traditions, seem to be very family oriented and i think you would set an amazing example. It is very easy to be scared off when seeing other kids but unlike alot of parents you see that anything is possible and dont have the whole 'never my kid' mentality. Don't let any of that change how you feel...hey look at marriages, we can all look at statistics and let that scare us off ya know

Must be something in the water I figured that since FH is older and most of our friends are already parents that's probably why he's feeling it.

Re: how does your FH feel about having babies?

FH definately wants babies, but not for a couple of years. I agree, especially since we'll both be finishing school in May and starting our careers, we'll have loans to pay back and won't be ready financially, and plus we can just enjoy being married for a while... and we're both young too, we'll be 24 when we get married. But then every time I see a baby I get the itch! We'll see, whenever we feel we're ready, we'll start trying! We know we definately want 2 or 3, and we definately want our first before we turn 30! And we both agree that we are staying away from D names entirely, and we are definately not naming our son Daniel... that would be way too confusing if all 3 of us almost had the same name! Daniel, Danielle and Daniel Jr. Miller!

Hahah I knew what you meant! Some people want to wait, some a HM baby, others want to be 1-2 months preggers when they walk down the aisle. Everyone is different and you will figure out when the time is right.
