How far are you willing to go in order to get pregnant?.......

Original post by WeddingsRock

I was having a serious conversation with a friend about my infertility issues. I have PCOS and have been unsucessful in becoming pregnant.

I am not sure how far I will go. I have crappy insurance and really don't want to take shots of horomones.

What about you ladies?

I so desperately want a child. But, am afraid of drugs. I worked with a woman who was NUTS going through fertilty and I don't want to be that person.

I wil do IUI first for 2 months and then move on to IVF. I want to do this no more then for 1 year. I know that it may sound unrealistic, but I can't go through this much longer. I have been trying naturally for 5 years and am sick of BFNs.

i have a friend w/ pcos and has a healthy 2 year old...she is on meds and if you are interested i can fd out the name of her doc (who she loves) and ask her what the med(s) she took to conceive were...i don't think it was infertility drugs -- i think it was diet change and some other type of medication...

Just out of curiosity -- for those of you that have decided to not use fertility drugs -- why?

For me, I do not like the idea of extra drugs and hormones. I will never take the pill ever again. Everything might be tested and approved, but I am a worrier of long term effects. The ladies on this board are very strong, and I pray for them that the emotional rollercoster they live on will have a happy ending soon. I hope their future children will realize how badly they were wanted in this world. However, that is a ride that I do not wish to take. I know people have different views on adoption, but to me, I don't have a dire need for my child to begin life inside of me.

Adopting is also a lengthy and sometimes very disappointing process. I know a couple who went through hell (they lost several children) before they finally adopted their little boy.

I am not at all saying that adopting is an easy process, but it is a process that i would much rather take than going thru infertility treatments. My friend's parents have adopted 3 crack addicted babies. VERY smooth adoption process, and very inexpensive. The kids are now 5 and 6, and are the sweetest things. Her family is extremely christian, so they are going to adopt more when the current children get a little older.

Dh is interested in adopting a slightly older child, no matter if we have our own biologically or not. His mom is a social worker, so they always had foster kids coming and going when he was growing up.

We have been TCC for almost 2 years and did the clomid thing and 5 IUIs. We stopped there because the doctors did not think that IVF would be very successful and steered us away from doing the procedure.

We are adopting though. A baby girl from China. The process is long and tedious but in the end we will be parents and thats what we wanted most in the world.

Good luck to all TCCing!! : )

If we can't do it naturally, I might go through IUI but not IVF. I have a SIL who did IVF was successful and will do it again! I have nothing against it, Its jsut not for me! The way I think is that if I cant have a child naturally I will adopt from China. I have a beautiful niece from China who I adore and my BIL & SIL (not the ones who did IVF) had such a wonderful experience that would be the route I would take.

Karen, best of luck with your adoption! I saw my ILs go through the whole process, it was supposed to take 18 months and only took about 15! And my niece is just such a great kid! And she has 2 cousins who are from Asia, one from China and one from Korea and they too are amazing little kids! Its a very rewarding experience!!

Karen, my cousin adopted from China and is the happiest mommy in the world. You won't regret it. I've considered this myself. Best of luck to you!

Well, I have done 2 IUI's and 5 IVF's and am still going...

I really don't count the IUI's (my tubes were blocked), and the first 3 IVF's (I feel the RE over medicated me compromising egg quality...).

Anyway, my insurance changed after the 3rd IVF and does NOT cover IVF or the drugs, and of course I am a poor responder so the drugs are over $5000 alone.

I'll be starting my 6th cycle soon, but I am not sure what will be if it doesn't work...
But, if possible, I'd be willing to cycle until it worked. It's not so bad. In fact, as sick as it sounds, it's rather exciting. Of course, not as exciting as actually conceiving...

We are not sure how we feel about donor eggs, surogacy aor adoption.

Re: How far are you willing to go in order to get pregnant?.......

well I DESPISE needles!
Seriously, I am petrified of them, I was soo afraid of needles that I did not go to the dentist for an obnoxious amount of years. In order to get me back I had to go to a sedation dentist who put me to sleep before he did any work.

Well, if clomid does not work in 2/3 months guess what I am doing? Yup injectables!
I would do a lot to have a biological child!

I think, of the active posters there are only about 10 that KNOW what they would do because they are going through it. There are a few people in life like Red who are so strong willed that I don't think would change their mind regardless if they are in the situation or not.
Anyway, my point is, until you are trying fo two years, until you are on IVF #6, Until you have 5 miscarriages ect. please keep your mind open as to what you would do and don't judge others.
