How long after you got engaged did you book your reception site?
I got engaged on May 11th and, while I have been doing a lot of research, I dont plan to book for another month or two....is that bad? I'm planning to get married in September or October of 2006.

I think it just depends on the place. I booked mine about 1 year before my wedding.
You're probably better off doing all the research so that you are happy with your decision. Just a little advice if you are getting married in a church - I would make sure the church has the date available before booking the hall...

Right away -after we researched a few places...I would say about 3 weeks to a month after we got engaged.

We were engaged 4/10/04 & booked our hall 7/24/04...We did tons of research but waited to book! We had no problems!

No church...will probably get married at the reception site. This, coupled with a small budget, many out of town guests and a groom who would prefer to get married in NYC is why this process is probably going to take longer than I would like it to.

We booked our place soon after we got engaged!! We were so excited and wanted to be married at a certain place, on a certain day and the reception site HAD our date so we booked right then and there!! But it's all personal preference! Good luck sweetie!!!

We booked a roughly month after, but we wanted a Saturday night in June and knew that is a popular time to get married. When we asked for May or June 2006, the hall only had 3 dates open!

We were engaged in June 04 and booked almost a year before 4/15/05.
I think usually a year ahead. It is crazy when you start to look and think of everything but pick 3 places. Narrow it from there. Make appointments or do drive by's when you can. I would get moving though soon. At least by the summer.
My reception hall told me she can do a wedding in 2 years or 2 months so it is all up to you, if you want to rush. Good Luck!!

Exactly one month after our engagement!! we were pretty open with dates too! I think you have some time!! I would just research reception locations this way you have an idea!

We booked in about 2 weeks but I only had a 7 month engagement

The next day!!!! We knew exactly where we were going to get married, and we wanted to make sure that they had the day open!

I was engaged for 8 months before we even started thinkng about planning - let alone booking the reception site. We wanted to enjoy the engagement - - plus we needed to save money.

Since we will be married within 6 months of being engaged, we picked everything within the first 6 weeks or so - and I mean EVERYTHING was booked

ABout two weeks if that! Reason being I really wanted on site on the water in Suffolk County on a Saturday night within a year in the summer (I am in school). As we started researching almost every hall on the water was booked then but we found one we loved and I have never regretted it !

We were going to take our time and wait about 3 months to start looking around and planning but w/ everyone yelling at us that the longer we wait, the faster these halls will book up, they were right, so...........
