My parents agreed to help but for the most part, my fiance and I are footing most of the bill.

I take random donations anywhere I can get them....

Seriously, FH and I are paying the bulk of it...my dad is helping where he can...everyone else is just waiting for a free meal!

How do you girls do it? I would never be able to afford it. I think that is great that you are paying for your own wedding. I guess maybe if we had a longer engagement we would be able to do it. I asked this question because it seems like when I talk to people, they tell me they are paying for their own wedding. I feel guilty that I am not.

Edited to say: I should not say that we are not paying for anything, my parents are taking care of the hall and to me that is bulk of the wedding. My FMIL is giving us a set amount of money that we will apply to some of the vendors. We are going to have to pay for somethings. My parents have been great, they never ask amy questions, they say it is your wedding, you make the decision, even on things they are paying for.

I wish we had help but we don't. We had a year & 8 month engagement plus we live together, have bills & 3 cars. We do it, we saved our butts off & cut out alot of dinners out & shopping. We also did this and are saving towards a house! We have a house bankbook & a wedding one.
John is paying for 90% of it because his salary is 3 times more than what I make.

edited to say don't feel guilty! enjoy!

I think it is great you are not. i wish I was not! for me it came down to a few things. one - we can afford it, just barely, but we both have good jobs, two - my parents are retired and while they can afford it, i would feel guilty taking their money, and three- i am control freak! and i couldn't stand to let my mom say things like, well we paid for it so if i want cala lillies then that is what you are getting!
seriously, don't feel guilty. your parents are probably thrilled that they can pay for your wedding and they may have been saving for a while because they knew they wanted to. just sit back and enjoy wedding planning!! good luck!

We paid for most of our wedding. We had a savings account going even before we got engaged, and I had put it into CD's and added money to the CD every 6 months when the interest rates were really good. That money paid for our entire reception.
Our parents both offered to pay for certain things such as our band, flowers, limo, and our honeymoon. The good thing about our parents is that they just wrote us a check and said do what you want with it - we had free reign over how we wanted to spend their money.

Fh and I are paying for everything, right down to our rehearsal dinner. It is so hard, because nobody has offered us one penny. I know in the end we will be so proud of what we accomplished, but right now money is all I worry about.

That's awesome Vicki! Can your mom call my mom!?
PS - you must have been saving really early. my interest rates have stunk for the past two years!!

JoRo - we were saving for about two years before we got engaged. That's the only reason we were able to have a short engagement. We knew the reception was paid for already!

His parents also paid for the rehearsal dinner, which was just a backyard BBQ. Very low key and laid back, which was exactly what we wanted.

Edited to say: Yes, we were very lucky that our parents were so wonderful about the money they gave to us.

christy we are also proud we are paying, this way no one can say a word now or later, plus we can look back and feel so good about what we accomplished!

My dad is paying for reception hall, then we are paying for the rest. My dad is annoying me now, so i'd almost rather pay for it myself. I think my wicked stepmom is putting ideas into his head. FH's parents will contribute where they can.

We are paying for most of it - his parents have been awesome though (my Mom is a widow on a fixed income, so she couldn't contribute much), and they are paying for the rehearsal dinner. His mother has been a godsend. I may not have much $$ but I've got a great FMIL and I'm really grateful for that....

We are paying everything, from top to bottom

Re: How many of you are paying for you own wedding?

I have to say that I don't think I'd rather have anyone pay...my family all fights to be 'in charge' and I'm not having any of that!! So we scrimp and struggle and are on a very tight budget....but in the end our wedding day will reflect us and not our families....now, if I had a 'normal' family maybe I'd feel differently...don't feel guilty about having your family pay for your wedding, just be grateful!

We're paying for everything, though my mom did buy me my dress. I would not feel right taking that kind of money from my parents, even if they had it and offered to pay for it.
It's great not having anyone be able to say 'don't do this' or 'do it that way.' Much rather have that than any amount of $$.
