Since we are all talking about weddings, I was just a bit curious.
When you go to weddings, are there any factors you take into consideration when you decide on how much to give a couple???
I usually do not give less than $100, but of course I give as much as I can. No matter what, I at LEAST give $100. If it's no one that I know. If it's a friend or family member, I give them as much as I can , but never less than $200.
Do you prefer to give a gift or money??

Re: How much do YOU give at other peoples weddings?
I always try to give 250 or more depending on the person. I gave my friend from work 300 but my closest friends 500.

Always Monetary. For acquaintenances or more distant friends 300. Childhood/school/ work friends 400. Our close circle (pretty much the people we would put in our bridal party, family friends we have known forevere and a few other) 600-1000.

I really feel like most of my guests should have read this before coming to my wedding....
but most gave what they could and some went way above.
I personally like gifts! but gifts off the couple registry so I know it's useful sometimes money.... or an engagement gift and then money. (I do consider our finances... but like to think about the when and where and the who.. closer people will get more. But we plan on matching what people gave us.

We always try to do $200 for a couple we are not that close to.. $300-350 for a couple we are close to.. and about the same $350 for family or more if we have it.. We had three weddings this summer.. all family!!! Can we say BROKE!

I never give less than $300. For really close friends and family...$400 -$500. But I am starting to think $300 isnt enough and think I will bump my minimum to $350

Re: How much do YOU give at other peoples weddings?
i actually give less if i am in someones bridal party. being a bridesmaid is a very big expense & i just can't find the extra money. so we have given $200 if i was in the wedding & $300 if i wasn't in the wedding.

I give about 250. I think it depends who it is and what my economic situation is. I usually try to cover my plate by $125 pp.

Now at least 300$ a couple unless it is a destination wedding, then I give less. I would never give a gift , always cash.

give what we can afford $200 for the both of us OR what you had given us at our wedding we will match. Sometimes we can give a bit more so we will shoot for $250.
same here

Re: How much do YOU give at other peoples weddings?
so do we all think that people give gifts to get away cheaper????? I have also heard alot of brides say it is just a NY thing to give money. When I told my friend how much I give people at weddings , she was like 'I don't understand why you give so much'! I told her I never give less than a 100 if I am really strapped and she didn't understand that lol she is also from MI. So I dunno

I lived in CA for 5 years...and everyone gives gifts...and nothing as costly as we give in NY. I always give money...and people thought i was weird.

Re: How much do YOU give at other peoples weddings?
I think in the NY area, people generally give more than in other areas of the country. I remember my cousin telling me that in Vegas, where she lives and was married...the norm is like $50 a person.... I've never given less than $100 (just me) - now that i am able to give more, I usually give $300 for both of us.

Re: How much do YOU give at other peoples weddings?
I personally hate giving money. However, that is the norm here. We usually give $250-$500 (for family) as a couple. Or $100 in cash and a lot of gifts (apart from bridal shower).
I don't believe in having people 'pay for their plate'....it's not a political fundraiser. IDK, just my opinion.
