I can't believe how much we had to pay!!! $250 for the Dociese of Rockville Center. And they do not offer a one day thing, only both Sat. and Sunday, I couldn't believe it when I saw the price. Now I am upset when I see everyone else paid soooo much less???!!!!

Did you do it at St Agnes???

We did it at my parish in the Diocese and it was 2 days...and $75

We didn't pay for FOCCUS and the one day PreCana through my parish was $80.

I'm not quite sure yet how much ours is going to be but we also got a letter that our Pre Cana would be starting in January and it said a $35 registration fee was due at the first meeting.

ditto for us cause we're getting married at the same Church!

By the way, I called the diocese of RVC the other day to see how much it was for the quickie weekend version and she said it was $350!!!!and it covered room and board. Room and board? where are you sending me for this thing that i need room and board? it's just ridiculous!

i'm still so confused as to how much we're gonna have to pay... also, for those doing the full day course, do you all have to attend the service/mass immediately afterwards?

i feel like they're holding the certificate hostage...

Yes, ours started at 9:30 (well, by the time everyone registered it was 10, people knew it was switching to two days the following year so it was their biggest precana class ever). We stopped around 3 or so to go to the mass and were out by 4pm. At the end they called us up to get our certificates. It was a fairly quick mass and the day went really quickly overall. We're not getting married for almost a year now but, it's nice to have it off the list.

Now, I feel really annoyed. I feel like I'm am getting ripped off by a Catholic chuch. Yes, i had to pay 40 for FOCUSS to pay for supplies. What supplies??? It was a scantron test. They didn't even give us a pencil. Shouldn't the entire diocese of Rockville Center have a standardized fee schedule??? Why do some people pay 75 when I have to pay hundreds? I don't get it.

Yeks! and I always thought that was a free service from the church. Well, the more you know...

What is FOCUSS? We were just told if we couldn't do the precana they offered, we could go anywhere, as long as it was Catholic.

Foccus is done before Pre-Cana. It is not required by all Catholic Churches yet, but it is required by mine. You need to 'pass' Foccus to move on to Precana. It will be required by all Catholic Churches eventually. Basically it is a scantron test of 100 or so questions. They ask you about finances, family, raising children, stuff like that. Nothing crazy. Then we had to meet with a Foccus couple a few months after the test to discuss where we disagreed and agreed. That part was really easy. For the most part, most of our conficting answers were mistakes, b/c they try to trick you in the questioning. They ask alot of double negative questions, so your sitting there overanalyzing what they are really asking and end up answering incorrectly.

Thanks date twin!!! I'm nervous, we are getting married by my FH's at my church. For everything else you do involving a wedding it seems you sign your life away and have complete documentation. For the church, they pencil your name in a date planner. I'm going to call and confirm next week and make sure everything is in line.

Yeah!! Date twin!!! Never hurts to call and confirm. I thought it was strange when we booked the church the priest told us he had a baptism that afternoon. How does someone know when their kid is going to be born and they have to have the baptism set up over a year and a half in advance?? And yes, he did pencil it in a planner, but he penciled us in for two dates, just in case I wasn't able to get my hall for the day i wanted. They never called me to confirm that I did get my hall for the 2nd definately and I never called them back either. Geez, maybe I should call now too, b/c I have two weddings scheduled.

Often times, the parish designates certain days of the month for baptisms, like the second Sunday. So every month, that day and time are set aside for baptisms. That was something we had to work around too.

Unfortunately, each parish sets their fees and it seems like yours are pretty high. Perhaps they have professional staff to do the Focus and precana, and that is why it costs more. I know our parish uses volunteers, and it was VERY difficult getting in touch with them for all of that stuff. I would recommend calling them back and making sure - some of them are not so great with communicating with you, and I wouldn't wait for them.

Don't feel too bad. I am in the same boat. We paid $250 as well to the Diocese of RVC. And the places you choose from to meet aren't very convenient either. It's either Uniondale or West Islip!!

Re: how much does precana cost?

It varies. We've been on our parish for the pre cana dates since August, and they kept telling us that they don't have the dates. FI finally called and asked if there was a number we should be calling, and they gave us the number for the Diocese of Rockville Centre. I'm desperate to get this done, so we're paying the $250 for the Saturday and Sunday session, as well as FOCCUS, which is included in the cost.

Re: how much does precana cost?

Mine is $250 for precana... and then $750 for the church as a 'donation'

I wonder... Has anyone done pre cana somewhere else that was cheaper??? Let me explain my question... Like some of these girls are going to places for like $25-50 dollars... Has anyone gone to a different pre cana site then what the church advises you to go?
