FH and I were having this discussion with FILs the other night, and apparently, we have 2 VERY different opinions when it comes to this.
If you don't feel comfortable answering, you can give a range.
$100-200 per couple $200-300 per couple $300-400 per couple $400-500 per couple $500+ per couple
Also, do you feel venue affects how much you give?

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
i would never and have never given less than 300 per couple
the amount would change based on how close I am to the couple and whether or not I am in the BP
location and day does not affect how much I give

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
We usually give $300, but for a very close friend or someone in our BP, we'd probably give $500.
Venue really wouldn't change anything for me.

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
We almost always give $300 a couple. If it is one of our closest friends, we give more. We have never been top a family's wedding while dating so I would assume it would be similar to a closest friend.
Venue does not change my mind, unless I am traveling a distance. I agree with someone above, I did not consult with my friends and family before choosing my venue and they would NOT know how much my wedding cost.

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
$200 - $300 is usually my gift, but if i know the venue and day is significantly cheaper than normal, i'll give less and vice versa. if i'm in the BP, i give significantly more.
ETA: i'm probably the only one that is saying venue and day of the week matters, but to me it honestly does.

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
We recently went to two weddings and were in the 2-3 range... Venue doesn't matter, if it were a family member though we would probably be in the 4-5 range.

I'm on the fence with this, but I kinda agree with you about venue. I don't think we would give as much if it were a knights of columbus type venue versus sand castle.
Day of the week doesn't play though for me.

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
the venue will never affect how much we give the couple. It's the couple's choice where they want to have their wedding and if it costs a bit more than your average venue, than so be it.
If FH and I are going to a wedding for a friend, we usually give $250-$300 range.
If it's a very close/best friend, we give $400-$500 range.
If it's family, we give $500 and up.

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
For me it depends on my relationship with the person getting married- and as far as location- it is not my responsibility to pay for your party...

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
For friends/aquaintances, we usually give 300 per couple.
For really close friends or if FH or I were in the bridal party, we've given 400-450
Family, we've given 500+

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
Venue location and day does not factor into my gift amount. Wether its at a VFW or a manhattan venue... does not change my number

Re: How much would you bring to a wedding??
I think people goes based on the venue. I would give 250-300 per couple. However, if the wedding takes place in the backyard of your house then I won't be so generous.

THIS!!!!

I've been very vocal about the gift thing on these boards before.
Personally I like to give $2-300 per couple... and it's based on who the people are relative to me and what I can afford at the time. I've been a student until very recently and now I don't have a 'real' job so I might not give as much as I'd like to.
Venue doesn't and shouldn't affect what I give. I wasn't consulted about where you decided to have your wedding, whether it's the Swan Club or the Garden City Hotel and we're not all going out to Applebees to split dinner. You invited me to a party to celebrate with you and I'm giving you a GIFT, not paying for tickets to attend your event.
I HATE the phrase 'cover your plate'. HATE IT.

we give 300 a couple no matter whose wedding it is. we dont look at the venue bec IMO thats sort of tacky. If its some very close like fam or good friends anywhere from 400-500 a couple.
'12er crashing - that's very similar to what we give.
