It was a miserable, rainy Saturday in Feb (this year) so we decided to spend the night in. We went into town and picked up some firewood & munchies and went home. I lit a fire while Chris prepared some food. He suggested we (finally!) play the 20th Anniv Trivial Pursuit game I had given him for Christmas - I was always bugging him to play it. He's on the sofa, I'm on the floor in front of the fire...playing Trivial Pursuit. I start off winning, then we tie, then I pull out in the lead again. It came down to the final question where the opponent picks the question of their choice. He's shuffling through cards - I accuse him of cheating by looking for hard questions - he gets something in his eye...so he has to get up to remove it. He finally comes back, shuffles through some more cards, I accuse him of cheating some more. Finally, he picks one. He wanted to know on which day he asked me to marry him. I sat there, jaw dropped - I had no idea what he was talking about. He dropped to his knees (he always wants me to tell everyone it was one knee!) as he pulled the box from behind a pillow...opened it and asked if I would marry him.

We shared a bottle of Verve Cliquot before we told anyone. Then opened another bottle with our landlord/friend - he was the first to know.

ETA: He didn't have anything inhis eye...he needed to get up to get the ring - which was in a drawer not 5 feet from where we sleep!!!

Fi bought over a 3 man Serande To sing to me Old Spanish Love songs right outside my bedroom Window!!...He opened the ring box and showed it to me..I was amazed!!! Then I went downstairs and he got on his knee and proposed!! I was sooooooooooo shocked!!! it was 11:00 PM...My neighbors even called security...BUT I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My FH just has no patience. He planned on proposing to me on Christmas Eve of this past year, and he just could not wait. A week before Xmas, I was sitting on the bed wrapping presents waiting for FH to come home from work. Two hours after he was supposed to be home, no call, nothing, I started to worry, but I figured since he didn't call, he probably needed the time or something since he never does that, so a little while later he finally came home and I was like, where were you? And he just looked at me all weird and stuff. So I asked him again, and he pulled the box out of his coat and said, 'I can't wait! Will you marry me?' I couldn't stop laughing. I laughed hysterically because it was sooo surreal, although we had looked at rings, it was not in my mind that it was coming soon. Haha, finally I say yes!

I got engaged on March 8th. I was completely clueless. FH woke me up on Sat. at 6 am and gave me a letter telling me to get up, get washed and dressed, and pack my toothbrush, brush, contacts..stuff like that in a bag. Then he said that I needed to be ready to leave the apartment by 7am. We left and got in that car and to my surprise ended up at the airport. He surprised my by going to Florida. The funny thing was that the plane we took only held 50 passangers. I HATE FLYING! As soon as I saw the plane I cried. But it was ok..the flight was great and we landed safely. When we got in the airport a car and driver picked us up and brought us down to the beach. He took us to a fountain(where FH told me he loved me for the first time 3 and a half years ago)and when we got there my parents, grandparents, brother, and FH's parents were all there...there was a radio that was playing Frank Sinatra's 'Three Coins in a Fountain'...there was a red carpet leading to the fountain and FH took my hand and led me to the fountain..read me a poem and went down on to one knee. It was so special. It was funny because we were in a public place and strangers we stopping to watch. I could not stop crying.

It was Dec. 23 and we spent the day/night in the city.....went to a show, had a romantic dinner and went back to the hotel. (The Essex House). He had champagne & roses waiting for me. (You would think I would know what was happening but I was clueless).

We exchanged some of our gifts and before I knew it he got on one knee & proposed. It was a beautiful night and feels like it happened yesterday.

FH surprised me with a trip to St. Martin last July. From there he took me to St. Barts and proposed on the beach! It was very romantic and I was very surprised b/c it was a complete surprise!!!

Some really great stories! I got engaged in Central Park by Bow Bridge in a little gazebo! One of the best days of my life!

FH and I had lived together for a year, and we'd always said we'd get married, so you'd think I wouldn't be surprised, but I was.

He met me after I'd done some volunteer work in the city. We went to the Museum of Natural History to see an exhibit, then he suggested we go to Brooklyn Heights for dinner. I said let's go to Chinatown, and he hesitated a bit and said he'd really like to check out an area in 'our' borough. He usually lets me go wherever I want so I figured if he wanted to do something specific, great.

So we went to Montague Street and I picked a burger place that had candles lit and had good veg. options. Nothing fancy.

After dinner he suggested we go to the promenade overlooking the water and the city. It was cold so I thought he was nuts, but I was game. We went and it was soooo beautiful. We sat on one of the benches and kissed. I kept saying how beautiful it was, and joked and said it would be a good place for a proposal. Then, he pulled the ring out of his pocket and before he could do or say anything I said yes, and started laughing/crying.

We went home, and had a wonderful night-it was late so I didn't tell anyone till the next day. The sweetest thing was I called my parents and they both knew. He'd asked them both for my hand in marriage before he proposed! I'm 27, we've lived together for a while, it was so sweet!

We got engaged june 28 2002 at smiths point.
FI called me at work to ask me if I would like to go to the beach to unwind a little a de- stress. I jumped at the opp.
We arrived at the beach and walked for a bit. He was so insisted on sitting down so I flooped on down and he then proceeded to go into his speech.
Now you must be thinking ok how did you not know what was coming but let me let you in on something that makes him truly amazing.
One month before we got engaged I found out I had a brain tumor. Our lives had very much became consumed by this. I was very afraid and he was even more than I. The last thing on my mind was a proposal. With two weeks till I was due to have surgery to remove my tumor he had decided to propose.
He told me that the beach was long and beautiful just like he wanted our lives to be together. He wanted me to know that no matter what I would be in his heart forever and that he had so much faith in us that I would make it through this and we would contuine to live a long healthy life together.
At this point he was on one knee with ring in one hand asking me to marry him (I am crying right now).
Of course I said yes and here I am healthy and going strong with the loving support of my FI and planing a 11-05-04 wedding.

My FH and I met while running x-country and track in college. The first weekend in Feb. this year our school had an alumni meet with alumni races. My FH ran and I didn't. During the race I was given a card by one of our friends. It said 'This is the time, this is the place, this is where we learned to love each other. Meet me at the finished line' At the ned of the race he got down on one knee and proposed. By the way he wore the ring on his pinky during the race.

This is how my FI did it. He kept saying how he wanted cake from this one particular bakery. He proposed on Sept 13. During the week he kept telling me how he was going to order the cake. He called me at work and told he he ordered it and I asked him what did you get on it 'hands off' or 'Brians cake' he laughed. On friday the 13th he picked up the cake and told me he would be waiting for me to come home so we can have the cake together. I got home at about 6 and at 6:30 he said go slice up a piece of cake, because we have to go pick up my check and i want to go before it gets late. So I get up and go to the kitchen and in the fridge is this massive sheet cake. I take it out and while i am trying to cut the strings and tape he gets the video camera. i finally open the box and see 'Will you marry me on the cake'. When he picked up the cake he had put the box with the ring on the cake.

Its very hysterical. I looked at the cake, then looked at him, looked back at the cake, back at him, back at the cake and asked him 'I think they gave you the wrong cake' then I just started screaming my head off. I dont think i even said yes, i just screamed.

I loved reading everyones stories! My fiance is from Trinidad and we were going for carnival, I knew he was going to propose at some point, he called me from the jewelry store..so there was no surprise about getting engaged..but I had no clue what the ring looked like..anyhow, so he finally proposed to me on the beach where he grew up..it was nice..he got down on his knees and I felt stupid so I got down on my knees too( there was licquor involved)..but it was nice. Congratulations to everyone!!

it was the last weeks of school (last year) and i had report cards spread all over the kitchen table. my mother came in and asked me to help her at the store (she had to buy lots of sodas for the bbq we were going to have)....so with much reluctance i agreed. well, to make a long story short, when i got home and walked into our den, we see this thing on the floor. and my mom asks...what is that? well, it was a rose petal. rose petals all the way up my stairs and into my sisters old bedroom (now a tv room) where chris and i first kissed. him and my father (while mom and i were gone) decorated the room with 10 dozen roses and candles and chris was waiting for me in this circle of candles. honestly girls, i was so shocked i didnt really know it was happening until he got on one knee!! i kept thinking...ok, he could just be doing something REALLY nice!! derr!! anywho, he was good, he had a bottle of dom perignon and called our families and closest friends that day, so when we settled down and cried and laughed, they were all waiting for us downstairs to celebrate!!

My boyfriend and I were at AC with our parents and his sister.... I told guy that I wanted to take pictures outside because of the decoration he told we will go later on. Go here it goes we went to get a wheelchair for my boyfriends dad and the lady was haveing a hard time with my boyfriends name, Guy said why are you laughing you are going to have that name someday and I was like yeah some day, after that we went into the elevator and one of the buttons had the initials SB so I said look guy thats me and he said oneday... Now this is it... I love DOlphins and in the HIlton they have slots so I played awhile and nada, GUY pulled me with my family and said follow the sound of water, I really thought he was crazy, we are in teh casino, but there we lines full of dolphin water fountins and my mom and his mom gave me pennies to wish, when I was done they asked me wHAt I wished for I said guy knows......... THis is when we went outside to take picttures in this little park at the Hilton, we took a pic underthe gazeboo and then he got on one knee so I thought he wanted me to sit and take a pic... but he turns me around and says DID YOUR WISH COME TRUE I was shaking sooooo much and crying that I forgot what I wished for my mind went blank......... my mother was screaming What just happened,my sister inlaw was crying the the pic came out blurry so we needed to retake it my stepfather wasnt if going to watch us take pics because he was tired but he was thrilled he did and my fatherinlaw was ****ed know one told him what was gonna happen so he would bring a back up battery for his camcorder..... SO I GOT ENGAGED on DEC 23,2oo1LIW
