Re: how were you proposed too?

It was April 12, 2003. Krzysztof and I had decided to give up dining out as our Lenten sacrifice and so we were going to make dinner. He called me and asked what time I would be coming over and I told him he would need to pick me up because my check engine light and some other light went on and I didn't feel comfortable driving my car. He told me 'I'll be over at 6PM, you better be ready' So he came over and brought me back to his house and I walked in to a table set with two place setting of the fine china I bow before in Macy's (Royal Doulton, Naples Platinum), candles, a dozen red roses and the aroma of dinner cooking. I knew something was up, but Kris tried to play like nothing was going on, he just decided to buy some nice dishes We sat down to have salad and I figured maybe there was a proposal coming after dinner (why did he buy the dishes? Hmm) After we finished salad, he went to get the chicken our of the oven and then dropped to one knee by my side and with the open ring box, asked, 'Will you marry me?' To which I replied 'Is this real?' (which he thought I meant the ring, I really meant, is this really happening). I said yes, he put the ring on my finger, I called my parents (they knew because he asked for their blessing) and then HE MADE ME FINISH DINNER. He said that he had worked too hard on dinner for me to jump up and start calling everyone and leave it behind.

Funny sidenote: While we were eating, my mom was calling her friends. Along those calls, was one to one of her close friends who called her sister (another close friend) who called her daughter-in-law (my best friend). So when I finally called my best friend she was already sceaming in my ear because she had heard from her mother-in-law, who heard from HER sister, who heard from my mom. I didn't even get to tell my own best friend.

Re: how were you proposed too?

My fiance had the ring for about two weeks before popping the question. We were supposed to see the movie Signs with another couple. He said that we will meet at the theatre, after driving for a while he said that there are two movie theatres in that town and he forgot to ask which one they would be meeing us at. So he asked to borrow my cell phone to call. Meanwhile he parked at the very first restaurant we went to. Idiot me doesn't even notice. Then he goes in the glove compartment and I'm asking him' What are you doing?' (still oblivious) Then he pulled out a black velvet box and told me he wanted to propose to me at the very spot he fell in love with me. He wanted to do it inside the restaurant but something was going on that night and it was packed and filled with baracades. So he proposed in the car, because he didn't want to mess up the chance and do it another day.

Re: how were you proposed too?

I never stayed in the city before and since Chris and I didnt want to spend the money for a vacation, so we deceided to stay a night in the city and then spend the whole day there on Saturday, but he did tell me that in November we are going to Vegas for a few days. It was raining the night I was meeting him in the city for dinner, so I was on the phone with my best friend and I said to her I think he is going to propose when we are in Vegas, it will be around my birthday and I think thats when it is going to happen. So she gets all excited because we were already in October. I get to his office to meet him and then we walk to the restaurant. He gives the coat check girl his coat (the ring was in his coat ) we sit and eat and he keeps complaining that his meet is not cooked enough, meanwhile he loves his staek medium well. I was like water ever I am not finished mine was perfect. We have dessert and we go back to his office to pick up my overnight bag. Then we start walking to the Essex House. The whole time he kept saying don't expect a huge room because this place is a little expensive and I was like its ok we need to save money anyway. We get up to the 33rd floor and there are five rooms and this side and only one room had double doors and he starts walking towards that one. I had no clue was was going on. I walk in and saw a dozen red roses on the table (they were so fresh i thought they were fake) and i am checking out the whole place. I get to the bed room and there were rose petals on the bed. Now I thought the hotel did this for all the rooms i didnt know he had them do it. So as i am checking out the bathroom he calls me over back the bedroom and he is standing infront of me telling me he loves me and all this mushy stuff and gets on one knee and ask's me, Well I said to him your kidding what are doing, put the ring away because it isnt real. He said no, Adrianna marry me, well I lost it I couldnt stop crying and it took me 5 mintues to say yes. I called my mother and she thought he broke up with me because I was so over whelmed, when i finally explained what happened she started to cry. I wasn't able to sleep at all and next day I couldnt stop smiling. It was the best day of my life, until my wedding comes.

Re: how were you proposed too?

All the stories are great...

We got engaged in a ski resort in Colorado...

but I so knew...b/c his mother was telling her friends that he bought the ring, etc...but in Spanish...so even though I was there...I didn't know what they were saying...when her friends left, they all said to me 'congratulations!!' etc...so that was my surprise...

Re: how were you proposed too?

FH and I went on a camping trip last Memorial Day. It was late at night on the 25th of May we were sitting in front of the camp fire. I had my eyes closed enjoying the fresh air. All of a sudden I heard his chair and I opened my eyes and he was on his knee or actually in my lap ( he fell off his chair he was so nervous) and he asked me to be his wife. It was sooo perfect. The only bad part was that we were in the poconos alone and I had nobody to show my ring to. I think I called everyone in my family that night to tell them.
I had found out later that the e-ring was right next to me the whole ride up to the poconos.
I am sitting here beaming just thinking about it all again!!!

Re: how were you proposed too?

We went to Key West last year for the first time together(we both loved it seperately), and this year we went back again. He took me to Mallory Square to watch the sunset(which the entire town does every nite) gave some guy our camera and then got down on his knee and pulled out the ring! I had no idea, everyone knew except me so it was the most amazing surprise of my life. And to think, I was trying to convince him not to go to Key West this year so we could save money, duh!

Re: how were you proposed too?

Fist of all, great post... these stories are great.

My story is less-than-romantic. My FI & I were shopping for jewelry for his grandmother's 90th b-day earlier this year... we had already been talking about getting married, but were not sure of the timing b/c i am finishing my B.S. and starting my MBA this sept. Anyway, so he asked me which setting I liked, so he would know what to get 'when the time came.' It turned out I didn't like any of th erings in the store & started getting mad b/c we stopped looking for his grandmother's present & I was late for work.

Finally he yells in the middle of the store 'would you just pick a F'in ring so I can propse to you already?'

And that was my proposal.

(Luckily, we had to custom order the ring. because I really didn't like any of the ones in the store, so he got to surprise me w/the ring and a real down-on-one-knee, asking me to marry him)

The funny thing is, if you know us the original proposal is SOOOOOO us!

Re: how were you proposed too?

Congrats!

My FH will kill me for telling you guys this but it was soooo sweet I have to!

OK. First off we were only dating 13 months and I had NO CLUE he was going to propose that soon. We had talked about it and I knew he was going to do it but probably sometime in 2003. And what is funny is that a few weeks before the proposal I said how I wanted either platinum or white gold as the band. And he said he thought that would be nice too. So the day of, it was the day before my birthday and my dad and sister were coming up to take us out to dinner. My FH was in a suit (!) but it didn't really make me wonder because sometimes he likes to get dressy. OK. So he was at my apartment that whole day and I was lounging around in my PJ's all day and installing my cable modem. Finally I got ready about 1 hour before my dad was to come and get us and FH was getting really ancy...pacing around and whatnot. He was calm all day so I noticed his change but didn't attribute it to anything weird. I didn't even peek at my gift, which he said he would wait until I opened my dad's gift to give to me so I said that was fine (still didn't think anything weird). So we go to dinner, nice restaurant, and time for pressies. I open up FH's and it's a white teddy bear from Build A Bear. All dressed up like a bride. Even with a blue garter! Very cute. OK - I'm STILL not getting it. I was thinking 'oh how cute! it signifies that he wants to marry me...in the future'. He says 'press the hand, there's a recording in it'. I press it and THERE'S THE PROPOSAL! It was FH's voice (he did it at the bear store) and he said 'How he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and would I do him the honor of becoming his bride'. I was in total shock! I kept saying 'oh my God!' over and over! So was my sister! My dad was in shock too. FH had told me once that he didn't like the idea of asking the father for daughter's hand in marriage...I don't really know why he feels that way and if I knew he was going to propose I would have asked him to ask dad anyway but oh well - no one complained about it.So the ring comes out, I say YES of course and the ring turns out to be his mothers (she passed on 20 yrs ago) and it's a really unique setting (two settings that look like stars with the stones in each one next to each other - when it's on my hand they are in a diagonal) and a white gold band. It's really lovely and of course the whole restaurant clapped and people congratulated us. We called his father and step mother and woke them up (they live in Ireland and it was 11pm there) and they were thrilled. Turns out that FH had a friend who also is from Ireland and had gone home for a visit and he got the ring from FH's father while he was there. That was in August 2002. FH proposed in November 2002 so he had the ring for that whole time and I never even had a clue! LOL

Edited because I tend to write run on sentences and just noticed it!
