I'll be taking FH's name, although it must feel completely weird after getting married to be called something totally different! I personally don't like hypenating, I think either take his name or keep your own, plus then its too much to write out LOL

I will definitely be taking FH's name. I just think its easier when kids come. I'm all about whatever is the easiest.

Re: Hyphenating name?
im still undecided. FH wants me to take his last name but I feel very sad knowing I will leave my last name. FH also got offended when i told him i wanted to keep my last name. I just love my last name. The pronouncing of it i love everything about it. FH's last name to me is plain. I still haven't decided if I am going to hyphenate it or just take his last name and make mine my middle name.
If it means a lot to FH then I will take his last name. He already wants me to change our dog's last name to his after we get married so we can all have the same last name. It's cute. I might give in. LOL.

I'll be taking FH's last name. I LOVE my current last name but I'm excited to take FH's name because I want to and like Linda said...'I'm classic' in that respect
I'm the same way, taking my FH's last name has always been part of the dream/thrill about getting married and committing yourself to someone else, for me at least.
I did mention jokingly to FH that I wanted to keep my name and he was like uhhh no. haha but I could even really pretend to argue bc I like the tradition. :)

Re: Hyphenating name?
I cant wait to change my last name. Right now, it's a first name type of last name, and I am always having to correct people when they think it;s ALL my first name.
lol
I would hyphenate if I was dead set on wanting to keep my last name active.

When I was at work a coworker told me 'wait til the first time you have to sign something with your new last name' so I actually tried it, wow!!!! Felt so weird LOL my first was in script and then last was like print script LOL
I also told my FH he would have to change his last name to mine.. i call him it all the time ,im changing mine to his - it doesnt bother me and isnt something i questioned.
When i sign my last name its like scripples... i have an rn in it and they just turn into an m lol. His last name is prettier to write

I tend to be very modern and anti traditional but I'm really looking forward to taking his name! I am going to hyphenate for work though. I have worked really hard to make a name for myself in my business and i don't want to loose out on all the work i put in for myself

Re: Hyphenating name?
When my mom married my dad she got rid of her middle name and made her maiden name her middle name. I think it has alot to do with she didn't like her middle name (Edna hehe) and her maiden name is awesome, and my dad (very conservative/traditional) had no problem with it.

Re: Hyphenating name?
I wanted to hyphenate, but FH didn't really like the idea. I love my last name and my brother is the only male of our generation with it. Plus it does have some recognition within the my father's industry.
My future last name is alright, it's a pretty common word with a few different meanings. The first time I told my VP it, he was like 'seriously, as in ...' and I was like 'yeahhhhh'.
So, I think I'll go the whole making my last name my second middle name. Not that anyone is really going to realize that, but it'll give myself some peace of mind.
As a funny side note: my future MIL actually did ask me if I was taking their last name! I'll be her first daughter.

Re: Hyphenating name?
FH is super sensitive about that...I've never wanted to change my name but he feels its disresepctful not to....I love my first & last together...but not my first & his last...I tease him all the time that he is going to take my last name LOL....I know if/when we have kids, they'll take his name, but me?....not too sure...

First I just wanted to say HI DATE TWIN!!!!!
I want to change to my last name because I'm not a huge fan of the name I have now. People have asked me why I don't hyphen my name and FH tends to get bent out of shape when people ask me. I'm not sure why he gets so upset, but he does.
Hey!!! I knew a had a twin out there somewhere!!
At least there's a few of you who are getting the same reaction as me..never thought I'd come across such a touchy subject with FH!

Um I love my last name, I'm so attatched to it that I get anxiety when I think about changing my name, I love FH's last name but I relate Mrs. newlastname to FMIL, so that will be weird to get used to....I joked about hyphenating and FH DID NOT like the idea lol was just bringing it up to see what he would say, I'm old fashioned and will of course be changing.

This is totally me and I still haven't figured it out. I'm secretly panicking about it. I want to keep my name at work becuase I've heard DOE horror stories about people getting lost and direct deposit getting messed up. I kinda like the idea of hyphenating although Im worried it will sound dumb. I also like the idea of having two names, being my maiden name sometimes, and his name sometimes. But no decisions have been made.

lol I'm totally with you!!! I will probably keep both names too for certain things, like for my work everyone knows me for my last name so that will take a while to change over :)

Re: Hyphenating name?
FIrst of all, Wisneski-Costigliacci? No.
Secondly, for us it was a unity thing... we both wanted our kids and us to all have the same last name.
Even when I brought up not changing my name as a jok, FH had a preety visceral reaction... lol, not an option.
